I love the fact that they use the same hula ka`i and hula ho`i for each competition. It demonstrates the kumu's strong sense of tradition, establishment of foundation, and pride in his own style. When you see Ke Kai O Kahiki's hula ka`i and ho`i, you know that it's uniquely them - powerful and masculine. The kumu doesn't need to search for the magic combination...he knows exactly what works, and he goes with it! Akamai no ho`i! And when they perform their choice mele, they kick butt!

If I am translating right kahiko is tawhito in our language meaning an old or traditional piece? Kane is tane meaning men. I think this is just beautiful. Strong, polished, disciplined.
