  • Thank u I will use this to work a poucho.

  • @Folashade1000 It would work but you would need to modify an existing pattern to use the stitch

  • I believe this stitch pattern was called the 'Grid St'

The 'seed st' is alternating (sc, ch1) across, ending with a sc for asll odd number rows. For every even number of rows, sc in the 1st sc and under ch1-sp, (ch1, sc) acrooss to last 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts.

  • @crochetguy If you are outside of the USA, you may have learned the stitch under a different name. I have been crocheting this stitch for the past 28 years as the seed stitch. Of course I have come across single crochet stitches that have many different names for the same technique.

  • Teresa, sorry to bother you again. I've tried this stitch and I really like it (made a square just to try it out). I want to make a baby blankie for a friend, and of all the stitches I tried I like this one better. Can you tell me how many chains should I start with? Thank you!

  • @elainebitt I would estimate a chain of 130-160 for a baby afghan.

  • Should row one end in a single or a double stitch? Mine ends in a single and that doesn't seem to be what is shown...

  • @carriejohaas Double crochet.

  • @tjw1963 I figured it out and it's looking wonderful! :) Thank you. And sorry if I sent my question a million times... it didn't seem to be posting, but it must have.

  • Thank you for all the great tutorials. Thanks to you I can now crochet.

You've mentioned that beanies and hats can be made with this stitch. Do you a tutorial on how to do that?

  • @mjthr21 I do not have a seed stitch beanie at this time but I still plan on making one. I will send you the playlist for the other caps I have completed.

  • This is nice bt its really hard to make out the pattern with that color of threat...

  • @Stezifyable I have since changed the background and yarn colors with current videos.

  • This is very pretty. It is definitely one of the more elegant crochets I have seen; it looks similar to the knitted seed stitch.

  • Hi Teresa! Do you have any tutorials on how to make a shawl? I love the way you teach and would like to follow you! :) If not do you have any great stitches that would look good on a shawl? Thanks!!! Again you are the greatest!

  • why dose my foundation chain always curl? yours is always so straight and flat...

  • Try being loose with it.

  • i agree it works from a beginner learned in the 70's forgot , I'm back love it

  • Happy New Year, Teresa! What a nice stitch pattern. If I wanted to make a blanket with this stitch, how many do you think I should chain for it? Do I multiply by 2's?

Thanks for another great tutorial! :-)

  • This is a very lovely stitch and so easy to follow. As always, you are great Teresa. I made a narrow one for a little girl using pink yarn.

  • Thank you. Sounds like a pretty scarf fit for a princess.

  • I love this scarf. is there a pattern for a hat too match

  • so beautiful thanks for the video.

  • No, I do not speak Spanish. I do have a translator for small sentences.

  • i WANNA TO LEARN TOO MANY THINGS WITH CROCHET

  • You have come to the right place.

  • I tried to do this scarf but I can't do that,It's so difficult...Can you speak spanish??

  • Hi Teresa!

I loved this stitch and can't wait to try it.

I have a question. Can I use this stitch to crochet a hat?

Thanks for making it look so easy!!!

  • This stitch can be used on a hat.

  • I finally got this right. How do I change colors using this stitch? I think this is perfect for beginners.

  • You will cut the yarn at the end of the row, pull the thread through the stitch to secure and then start with a new color.

  • too fast for beginners...

  • Time code 3:10 goes in to about 2 minutes of slow motion. The written and symbol instructions are posted on my crochet blog.

  • you went to fast in the first step.~_~

  • Is this the pattern for seed stitch?

Row 1: *SC, DC* across row, ch1

Row 2: *SC & DC in first chain, skip 1 chain* repeat * - *

Repeat row 2 til the desired length

    Thanks!

  • There are chains in the pattern that I am demonstration.

    It is:

    Row 1:SC, DC, SC, DC

Row 2: CH 1, SC, DC in the same stitch, Skip the next SC, SC, DC in the next DC.

You are doing the SC, DC combination in the top of the previous Double Crochet.

  • hello, i got a great scarf from my aunt for xmas and i want to learn how to replicate it, but i don't know what stitch she used! just let me know how to get the pics to you for inspection, any help you can offer is much appreciated! :D

  • I sent you a private message.

  • Thank you teresa.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Hello I made the scarf using your video. It came out wonderfull.I went to print out your direction on your website,I am confused >i was trying to follow the chart, i did not see the double crochet, I saw the chart you draw, but there is nothing on top right .I am confused. .please explain to me. Iam a knitter.,butlearning crocheting from your videos. Thanks. Rashmika

  • The double crochet stitch is on the chart, I just missed the abbreviation symbol. It is the taller symbol. The X is the single crochet the Ŧ is the double crochet.

    X = Single Crochet

    Ŧ = Double Crochet

  • Hi, Do you think you will be posting a tutorial for how to make a poncho?

  • I love this stitch, my scarf is turning out beautifully, thank you so much!

Do you think it'd be possible to make a beanie with the seed stitch? Would following a regular beanie pattern but doing single - double - single and so on turn out well?

    Thanks again!

  • Thank you. You can make a beanie cap out of most crochet stitches.

  • thanks for upl um does anyone know how to crochet a square cross crochet need to learn soon and can't find any thing on it

  • What do you mean by square. I have a video for a thread crochet cross.

  • is sort of like 4 different braid of color overlaping eachother forming a square

  • Thanks so much for teaching me everything I know about crocheting! I'm almost done with my scarf and I love it!

  • You are welcome :)

  • Hi Teresa thank you for the very good video that makes me easy to follow and it's clear instruction.God bless!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You do a WONDERFUL JOB teaching how to crochet. Please continue. As a beginner, I've looked at all the videos on how to crochet a scarf, and your video is by far the best. I have only one suggestion. There isn't a lot of videos for different types of stitches for scarves, especially for beginners. I would like to learn how to read stitch patterns, and I haven't found anything that could help. Can you?

  • Thank you. I have scarf video tutorials posted. Also posted is a video talking about crochet symbols.

  • I just finished another scarf. They look really good. Instead of a fringe, I made 3 pompoms on each end. Looks so original! I love you Teresa. You're a real special person.

  • Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it very much. :)

  • oh thats great...I am learning so much with you Thank you so much.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Hey, I was wondering if this pattern would work for a baby blanket? Did you use a special kind of yarn? I love it, you are great. Thanks for teaching!!

  • You are welcome. It would work great for a baby blanket. The stitches are nice and close together. The yarn is a 4-ply speckle fleck variegated from Red Heart. I bought it from Wal-mart.

  • I guess my yarn is too thin for this scarf as well. It's coming out just great. I truly love this one. Unfortunately mine is coming out as 5 inches (14cm), too small. How much should I increase the chains to? And must the chains be odd as in the v-stitch?

PS The yarn calls for a hook no.4 (G hook), so you can see how thin the yarn is.

  • You will add 2 addition chains for each seed stitch. This will be an odd number. The multiple will be 2 + 1. It take 2 chains to create the stitch and 1 extra chain in the beginning to create the single crochet.

  • Thank you so much Teresa. I knew I could count on your help. I'm not very good at understanding written instructions, but with your videos, it's so easy and so much fun. GOD BLESS YOU DEAR♥

  • Thank you so much.

  • This is just a beautiful stitch!!! I am learning so much with you! THANKS

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you so much for these videos! They are so helpful and easy to understand......

I just wanted to know if you have a video tutorial for children's (or adults) mittens! If you do I would greatly appreciate seeing it!!!

Thanks again, you an excellent teacher!

  • oh thats great........when do you think they'll be posted, Im trying to make them before Xmas......but no rush......

  • I will have some baby thumbless mittens hopefully posted before the weekend is over.

  • Love Love Love this stitch! I made a scarf with this stitch last night and I'm starting another tonight. Thanks for the video and Keep Em' coming :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Yea I have another scarf pattern. One day can you do a video of your crochet supplies? I think that would be interesting... Thanks

  • I do have a video from earlier in the year where I show my crochet hooks and the box I store them in. You can copy and paste these keywords "crochet hooks tjw1963" in to the youtube search. I recently have doubled my hooks since I bought some from E-bay.

  • Thanks for your video. I'm a knitter, but I saw this beautiful scarf in a magazine and someone told me it was crochet. I think it's a seed stitch, but it also looks like it could be SLANTED V stitch. Are those the same?

  • This is the seed stitch. I just uploaded a V-Stitch not to long ago.

  • Woow . thanks Alot Dear ;)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • So nice! I might make mine a little thinner...but this is really nice....

  • Thank you. :) Flexibility in modifying sizes is one of the great things about crochet.

  • @tjw1963 You've mentioned that hats and beanies can be made with the seed stitch. Is there a tutorial or pattern that tells how?
