  • "Katzenjammer" translated means "Cats misery". Its a very old german word that is not really used anymore. It has several meanings, probably the most important is "hangover". It might also mean the down after an emotional rush. Interesting fact: in Austria, the word is connected with "annoying sound or music". Kyuss originally wanted to call the band Katzenjammer...

  • who the fuck is katzenjammer

  • @VicteraIsler Its german for cat scream :p

  • @GodlikeGuitar search for live kyuss rarity and you will understand me

  • @Bitchinnshoes07 or cause.

  • was this in a commercial or video game or something? cause i swear i could have been...

  • it doesnt mean hangover wordy translated its cat moan

  • I think that Kyuss wasa also originally known as Katzenjammer in the late '80s

  • yes!

  • They were called 'Sons of Kyuss' originally but only for their debut album.

  • Yes, but before that.

  • Das ist korrekt ;-)

Great band, love the welcome to sky valley album..!

    greetz from germania

  • isnt katzenjammer also a german slang for hangover?

  • not really, but we should start using it for that.. ;)

  • dunno but i agree we should start using it for that.. ;)

  • find ich auch / i fully support that ;)

  • it's german, and slang for a hangover, but not a german slang for hangover. I think it's only used in UK/North America.

  • it can also mean cat screech

  • @w35m4n thats right no german would use such a phrase^^

  • Hey...german Folks also say Katzenjammer, the literal translation has to be "cat moaning", it was used by german students in the 18th century to describe a hangover that´s right! Back then it was "Kotzenjammer" but some people thought it sounded too harsh, because this means something like "Vomit and moaning" ...both words make sense in german, but I don´t really know how to explain : )

  • I had heard it wasn't used in Gernamy, but I guess I was wrong, anyways thats cool to know. And I get what you're saying.

  • we don't say it today but Sapsche's explanation sounds plausible. that stuff with the 18th century ... whatever^^

  • @toxicgasman:

    It does!

  • @toxicgasman actually it is a german word for "hangover"

  • @blubbandkill No it doesnt

  • @toxicgasman: I think you'll find it means 'Hangover'...

  • @bunkey0207 No it doesnt

  • hes not the downfall of kyuss, he was the only singer that couldve embodied their attitude. and he knew when not to sing and just let the guys jam out. nobody couldve done it better than john.

  • not really - josh sang on some songs and kicked ass.

  • ... what songs exactly did josh sing on? backing vocals maybe, not lead though.

and john's voice fits kyuss perfectly.

  • that's bizarre, i was sure you said that the songs josh sang on were better. i'm just confused...

anyway, the whole kyuss sound is very much of its time, compare wretch to blues to sky valley to circus, each one has a unique sound on all the instruments, from vocals to drums.

  • FUCK YEAH!

  • haaaaaa i like it :D
