While I like Nissan NV Commercial vans from what I've seen, I'm not very impressed with this styling with this NV200. Why the hell would they build them in Mexico? Can't they build them in the USA for once?
A van, really? The decision for tomorrows taxicab is a van? And I guess limos will be the same also? Yeah, I can see it now, Cadillac Escalades, Lincoln town cars, Bentley's, Rolls Royce's, and various other luxury cars being replaced with a Nissan van if mayor Bloomberg gets his way. His war on cars just seems to continue. He started with those pedestrian malls all over the city and now this. All of this because he couldn't get a toll put in place for midown manhattan!
I looked on the "Taxi of Tomorrow" official website. Over 75% of people voted for the Karsan, and about 25% voted for the Ford Transit Connect. There were VERY few votes for the hideous Nissan van... Fail -__-
That Nissan Van is disgusting!!! YUCK!!!! Why didn't they go for a nice car, not some shitty Japanese 3rd world box on wheels! A disgrace to NYC streets imo, the big American yellow cabs are/were a NYC/American icon. Couldn't Ford, GM or Dodge make some big and comfortable car for fleets?? How will movies become after the Classic Crown Vic is gone and replaced by this Japanese abomination? Action film involving a Nissan van taking high speed getaway with handbrake turns in NYC traffic? bad move!
"Nissan beat out Ford's Turkish-built Transit Connect."
There are extremely opposing "facts" about the issue, though, with people from major news sources saying either location.
It is confusing, I know, but the Turkish proposal was the one that would be built definitely in New York. It was slated for being built in Brooklyn. However, Bloomberg didn't think that it was practical to be thinking that a factory could be built in two years.
@bg1379 I didn't mean that Japan is a 3rd world country, I meant the Nissan vehicle is designed for 3rd world countries, like the Toyota HiAce was even tough it also was sold in Europe... The Nissan is made in foreign country, by a foreign brand, the Ford is equally ugly so I don't care where it is made. I drive a TC every week...
I'm Japanese.
Nissan is highly efficient in three.
However, it's the ugliest.
I think.
Karsan is the best.

@CDTbossy @rx7guy21
The Ford would've been made entirely overseas. This is made in Mexico but then upfitted in America.
Also, CDT, you need to go to school if you think Japan is the third world - REALLY BADLY.

@bg1379 actually as part of Ford's offer they would have manufactured them in New York. Educate yourself.
