You can't realistically compare horses from different decades, take them for what they are or were. Ruffian was a great filly and the 70's were arguably the greatest decade in racing, but you can't compare either way, so much has changed. I used to think Zenyatta should be Horse of the Year for 2009, she's great, however, in retrospect, it should be Rachel Alexandra.

No one can say that Summer Bird didn't beat Rachael Alexandra because of a muddy track because since the Haskell, Summer Bird has went on to win the Travers and the Jockey Club Gold Cup on tracks that were this bad or even worse in the case of the Travers. She's just a very determined filly that's got blinding speed and refuses to lose.

Please stop saying RA is greater than Ruffian because RA beat males. Ruffian, after a bad start, had taken the lead from Foolish Pleasure and I still believe would have won the race if she hadn't broken down. Nobody knows how great Ruffian could have become if not for her tragic death. What if RA had broken down in the Preakness? Would you be on here saying, well RA wasn't really great because she never beat the boys?

I was at this race. It was incredible how she destroyed them, again! She's a gorgeous filly. I love how the jockey kissed her at the end of the race. He really showed his love. It was so sweet. =]

Yeah but your horse has been racing "restricted" company too. Last time I looked she has yet to race the "BOYS" so that makes her restricted too. I like the idea of her going to the Personal Ensign, or the Woodward, the latter would be against the boys again for RA, or the first for Zenyatta. But you know the owners won't bring her for that if RA commits to it.

The fact is, RA is the best three year old, hands down. If they want to prove she is the best horse all around, then the Woodward would be the race for both genders and would with out a doubt stamp the horse of the year to the winner!! If Zenyatta shows up. She may have an undefeatted record, but she has never raced the boys and never against a filly who has race the boys and won!!!

Do all the Zenyatta fans remember 1988? It was the year of Sunday Silence versus Easy Goer. The great "Bald Eagle.," never once hesistated in shipping Sunday Silence to run in the East to face Easy Goer and the result was 3-1 Sunday Silence. Why can't the Mosses and trainer John Shirreffs ship to Churchill Downs in November for either the Clark Handicap or filly race on Thanksgiving weekend and run on natural dirt surface. RACHEL ALL THE WAY!
