This is from Carnegie Hall in 1959 Her live concert performance of the entire opera.. It is an amazing performance..too. I f you havent heard it, go out and purchase it.

Are you sure this is from Carnegie Hall? The version I have is from Carnegie Hall and it's different -- there's a chorus, for e.g.

well, now that you mention it ... I am not completely sure... She did a number of live performances of this scena in 1959 some with the high c deleted, others with it, .. (in recital) I too have the Carnegie version and yes it does have a chorus.

This is the Amsterdam concert in 1959. Of the three preserved concerts in the 1959 tour, this is the one which shows her in better voice, recovering from the cold that had plagued a bit her Hamburg (videotaped) and Stuttgart performances. And here she goes for the final high C which she had skipped in Germany.

C'è tutto quello che dovrebbe essere il canto in questa esecuzione. Tecnica, stile, interpretazione, totale immedesimazione nel personaggio, capacità di evidenziare il significato di ciascuna parola cantata, dominio di tutte le infinite possibilità della propria voce: inarrivabile.

@italiantenor Concordo totalmente ! Callas-Bellini una relazione artistica perfetta..! Esse adorava l' operista siciliano. Lui l' avrebbe certamente venerata. Bellini non è Donizetti, nel senso che per lui la preponderanza del testo e la ricerca espressiva lo allontanavano dalla superficiale generecità dei canoni canore dell' epoca, e che dal lavoro instancabile del compositore emergeva una corrispondenza miracolosa tra la musica e le parole.

Yuk! gspichuni2 doesn't seem to quite grasp or understand the pallet of differen't human emotions only one type of thing like a straight line on a piece of paper and it shows their true personality here in their comment {boring and dull} Callas had multi characterizations of emotions in her voice and delivery. Her melancholy and emotional renditions here where beautiful and when it was required of her to become a Tigress she was one unrully Tigress.

She is a miracle here -- NOBODY shapes the vocal line like this. The color, the FLAWLESS legato, the delicate portamenti -- all make for breathtakingly beautful belcanto.
