First rate playing, and a fitting tribute to the first African-American on the Grand Ole Opry (and a terrific player). Joe Filisko also is the best at building, modifying, and repairing harmonicas.
Palmer's "Lost Boy Blues" dates from 1928 and its rhythm is quite similar to the "Fox Chase". However I think Bailey did a slightly better job on it...but maybe I just heard a different version or you meant a whole nother tune.
absolutley fantastic! the best deford ever. is it a mixture of tongue block and pucker? I know that deford used loads of tongue slaps, etc, great to hear it done properly. I'm getting there!
Joe is OUTSTANDING & also a great person to show recognition to another Harp player. He's so comfortable with the instrument because it's so personal.....as it should be.
Unbelievable. But then, it's Joe Filisko, so not so unbelievable at all...since he can do anything on a harp. Such breath control, and authentic down to the last note. Giving such tribute to a man who was so overlooked in life as DeFord Bailey, one can only wish that man could hear Joe play....it'd be nice to think he just might. Wonderful.
If you like this, you should hear Joe's bag of "Lost John" and "Fox Chase" material. Sonny Terry would have been proud to hand over his mantle to Joe. Joe is a force of nature and and a nice guy too.
Very nice, I heard Deford way back when I was just starting the harp, I played his stuff for some friends and they didnt seem to get it, funny, they do now!

Hey Joe
You play very well. Who was it, either amateur or professional, that played the Harp that made you want to pick it up?

Great stuff.Thank you.
Tell me if I'm wrong but didn't Palmer McAbee make a very similar tune but earlier and even faster than Deford Bailey's version?
