i was gonna get an evo. but then i test drove one and decided against it because the stock turbo lag and cheap interior were a total turnoff. but it is a nice car i dnt take sides on sti vs evo i just like mine :)

using a BOV u actually lose a little bit of a hp. on a car thats running over 300 whp u wont notice the miniscule difference. u DO need a turbo to get a BOV (thats the loud hissing noise. release of excess pressure that the turbo has spooled up). yes the BOV sounds badass, but for the performance ur gonna wanna go with an aftermarket diverter valve.

was just wondering because i am getting an HKS exhaust on my Evo V and want the idle to be a bit meaner than stock. from what i have been told, the Silent Hi Power sounds like stock at idle, and then loud above 4000 rpm. i prefer if it has a nice aggressive rumble at idle.

i had this on for about a month, but no matter what i did (even buying the hks maf sensor ecu chip) i was getting strange "surprise" boost in low gears. i just switched over to the turbosmart and am running it 50/50 and have never had a problem yet. love the ssqv, but it's obviously not made specifically for tuned evo's

i'm planning on buying this bov for my evo, but is it more cost effective to just buy the kit that comes with piping and flange rather than buy the bov by itself and than go out and buy an evo specific flange seperately? the bov by itself is cheap, but is it worth paying $399 for the kit?

well that depends on your upper intercooler pipe and your air intake, i bought the kit but then had no use for it when I got a new upper intercooler pipe. are you buying it for a boost reason or for the sound?

sorry I think I misunderstood your question, is the piping that comes with the kit upper piping that uses the stock battery. there is a kit that lets you put the ssq on stock piping then i would save up and get piping that either uses a small race battery or move the battery to the trunk so the piping is less restrictive and has a strait shot into the intake manifold

the BOV. the turbo spools and sucks in air and induces into the pistons of the car for more compression which is more power. while gas is being applied, the turbo builds pressure. Once you let off the gas, the pressure is dissipated by the BOV so that the turbo doesn't build up too much and rip itself apart under your hood. so that sound is compressed air coming out of the BOV. it whistles because of the design of the BOV.

@Aznbabyboi84 You're confused. All turbos are either internally wastegated or externally. External ones have more precise control. Just to be clear, wastegates release excess boost and not bov/dv. The bov, or dv if you recirculate, releases excess pressure in your pipes so it doesn't revert back into your turbo causing it to slow down. Some FI/ed cars come without BOV/DV from the factory but most do.

The BOV releases the air and that's why you hear that sound, the air traveling through channels. A dump valve recirculates the air. They both perform the same purpose though, preventing compressor surge.

BOVs usually aren't recommended though as they'll cause your car to run rich momentarily, since there's no air in the intake system as it relieves pressure, but there's still fuel being dumped in. That's the advantage of the recirc (diverter) valve.
