Back when I watched this (before I learned the truth), I always thought it was about a guy getting really really fat before he ends up somewhere and gets screwed over by those starving people when they cannibalistically ate him. Anyway, this movie gave me nightmares, but it's an interesting piece of work to watch.
@TheAmazingBlackStar oh? do you remember gluttony? you know that big eating humanoid monster thing that embodied the sin of... well gluttony. That's what it reminded me of.
I first saw this in 1974 on the CBC. Eight years later I was able to get a 35mm film of it for a French class presentation. Today I own the DVD. What an amazing film! Thanks for posting.
@emosandcandy. This was a reach for you, outside your comfort zone. Your reaction is concerning. In the end, doubtlessly YOU'LL end up with the punch in the face, if a 40 year-old NFB film can agitate you so thoroughly.
It's so interesting how people can have different responses to the same thing. I agree I think that this is brilliant social commentary; in fact, the thought that it was made more than 30 years ago makes it somewhat prophetic given our current socioeconomic climate.
This is an amazing film. The character, writing, directing, music, and animation are all a fabulous portrayal of being a two faced (headed) businessman. He treats women as objects of luxury, people are nothing more than a resource to him, and the only joy in his life is consuming everything. And that is one hell of an ending! EXCELLENT FILMMAKING! So much detail! I could watch this over and over.
@emosancandy Your hating it just shows you have no imagination whatsoever, you sad person you are more to be pitied than despised for you have no creativity, no imagination, you poor being, you don't know how much you miss out on
I remember watching this when I was 10. It scared the shit out of me.

Ah, I guess I can see how this would have reminded you of him. I was trying more to think how the tone of this was anywhere near the tone of FMA.

@AYoungdude The end is like the symbol of the price of gluttony.
