Just some hand applied aluminum cutting oil. Home machining here, not trying to break any production records! The cutting is slow enough that cutting tool overheating is not occurring. I would like to make an air delivered misting coolant system at some point, but this is just a hobby, when I have spare time... so nothing here is a priority for me.
Hi! I am debating with myself whether to get a Sherline or Taig mill and was searching the net for info when I ran across this site. What influenced your decision to go with the Sherline mill? It seems the Taig takes ER-16 collets, which would be an advantage in accepting metric end mills, but then the Sherline has all those movement axis and tooling available, as well as a vari-speed motor. Tough choice for me. I am very interested in any feedback you can provide. Thanks!
@Srbija575, I bought my first Sherline mill and lathe in the early 1990s, pre-internet, etc... So I judged based my decision on magazine advertisments and articles, etc... I don't have ER-16, and only know what I've read about it... I suppose both brands have their virtues... Good luck in your decision.
theHippy86, Sorry for the late response... The tool you are referring to is a Rotary Table. It can divide a circle into 3600 segments down to 1/10 degree without interpolation, as each 0.1 degree is a line on the hand-wheel scale...
Good editing of your video. It moves right along. I like your use of titles too. To machine isn't easy and takes a bit learning. To machine and make a coherent video as you do it is another order of magnitude. Thanks.
I just got my Sherline and cant see how that would work, Also what is your scale settings in your software, I'm using turbo cnc and mach 2 for now, Great job Thanks!
@corona0007 I am putting together an A2Z/Sherline Monster mill, right now I have the sherline headstock/motor assembley, and the A2Z saddle with X and Y precision leadscrews. I am wondering this same thing, I don't see how he is using it like a quill. I'd be very interested in knowing what attachement he is using other then the sensitive drilling attachment that he uses as well.
This drilling attachment is something I bought on eBay about 2 years ago. It is similar to the Sherline tool, but not identical. I was kind of upset when I got it because the guy misrepresented it as the Sherline sensitive drilling attachment big-time, and I didn't notice that it wasn't authentic in the photos. The guy got mad because I gave him a neutral rating. You're not that guy, are you? The tool is a good idea, but it has some flaws in the execution. I use it with the bigger chuck...
did you use coolant?

Why didn't you drill it with G81/G83?

the old spectraLight machines from Light Machines are Sherline based.

What attachment are you using when you
are using like a manual drill press?

rdgtm, why did you switch from EMC to mach3 ? Thanks :D

Noticed use of Sensitive Drilling Attachment but at 2:40 you are using another drilling attachment. Can you describe this?
Thanks,

what software are you using?
rosaliomorenocervant 3 years ago
Alibre for design, and Mach3 for CNC.

Oops... Mach3 now, but this video shows EMC, the free Linux software that Sherline uses. I like Mach3 now. It was worth the $135 for sure.
