thanks for the vid you do good jobs i have a stock 1994 acura integra with only 100,000 miles on the car was sitting for 4 years due to blown head gasket i replaced honed but didnt change piston rings or seals now theres water in my oil the car runs strong no smoke what can be theres oil on my sparkplugs i chaged valve cover gaskets still has oil why can u or sum one help thanks and be safe
@2000teg430 It's a school project that my group and myself did, it wasn't the actual instructor advising us to use a socket. That is just the way my group and I decided to do it.
You should always resurface your head or get it checked for warpage every time you replace a head gasket. Since you've gone thru all that trouble the last thing you need is for leaks or to overheat.
@plakatjohn do u mean how much are the seals or how much they would charge u if u took it a shop? n if u took it to a shop they would charge u like 300 dollars to replace the head gasket n put it in timing n another 300 to replace what they replaced n get it resurfaced or milled many names same thing.
nice to get hand on from school. You can use the brown sand disk. just go light on it. I used it and everybody from the dealership used it. it's free from the part dept. the green special disk will be out of your pocket.
@justincretible1 Are you asking when to change it? If that's what your asking, your head gasket isn't really a "wearable"/maintenance part. The only time you will need to replace it is whenever you pull the head, or if your head gasket is faulty. Honda engines normally make it 250k miles before they start consuming large amounts of oil (not because of head gasket), so if the car is treated well your head gasket will last around 250k miles before it needs a rebuild.
@justincretible1 Sorry my last sentence doesn't make since haha, I meant to say: your head gasket will last the life of the engine until it's time to rebuild the engine, somewhere around 200k miles (valve seals, piston rings allow oil to be consumed).
Non abrasive my ass and as a matter of fact the green one is coarse used for iron heads you should be using the yellow on aluminum.

actually heating would make the metal expand which would make the clearance even tighter to remove?

Makes me sad that this is a school teaching this. Using a socket to remove the valves is shade tree mechanic to the max.

@costa83p Yepp and you should NEVER use a tool like that on aluminium. It eats on the aluminium and creates small indentiations.
