  • my favourite Irish goal of all time.

  • If that Ireland team had played in a cooler climate they would have made the semis

  • This was the strongest Ireland team ever!!

I think the heat and humidity got to them in the end..

  • What was madness was havin those lads runnin around in that Orlando heat when normal people are advised to stay in the shade

  • @TheY2JMc

All the players kept running until the game ended. They did not look exhausted nor dehydrated during the game. So, what´s the problem ?

  • @powerdriller10

Looks can be deceiving, Staunton in particular suffered badly from the heat, Roy Keane was badly dehydrated then asked by fifa for a unrine sample after the game, Tommy Coyne also suffered from it, the whole squad found it hard going, they played their football in England, hottest it ever gets these parts is light drizzle:)

Ok, but the Irish team played better in the last 15 minutes.

The Mexican team prepared in hot and humid Acapulco, so the mex was more or less adapted. Real conditions in Mexico City and its surroundings, against what Europeans believe, are quite temperate, about 25-28 Centigrades and not so humid at peak hot hours in the Summer, far from the conditions in Florida. The Mexican coach, knowing the game sites, programmed the training accordingly, while Jackie Charlton failed to do so.

  • @powerdriller10 Couldnt agree more, our preperation was a joke, our "game plan" was to knock it long, tus giving away the ball, then run after it, making ourselves physically wrecked, and then he would make sure there was bottles of water dotted around the pitch, we could have gone so much furthur, Ireland golden generation wasted on bad tactics:(

  • @TheY

Was that Charlton´s tactic? Knocking long and high and try to head over the mexes?Charlton really did not study the rival. The mex goalkeeper was short but agile, and Mexico had 5 players 1.85 and over. The tallest player in the game was mexican, Zague 1.94 mts. And Mexes prepared for months against still ball high kicks and quick counterattacks. In fact, mexes practiced moving the last defense line ahead 15 meters, but in real games shifted back 10 meters and placed a fast defender behind.

  • @powerdriller10 Well I think you watched the video there must of been 15 passes in that move leading up to the goal & not one of them along ball. The 2 goals Mexico scored I have to say were of very high quality aswell. The long ball was always a big part of Jacks game plan but not his main part, his main part was to press very high up the pitch & pressurise the opposing teams defence into making mistakes. Although I agree he play long ball too much. he had good players who

  • @powerdriller10 could pass the ball very well tho. The likes of Keane, Towensend & Houghton could pass the ball very well. Jack was slammed a few times by former Irish players most notably John Giles & Eamon Dunphy for not getting the best out of the more cultured players Ireland had during his time like Liam Brady, McGrath, Keane, Houghton, Ronnie Whelan etc... The long ball worked alot but alot of people at the time felt he was using it far too much.

  • Irishman with the scouser accent lol

  • nice goal!!! viva IRELAND!!! VIVA MEXICO

  • ah the 90s.....when goalkeepers wore clown outfits

  • fuck france and the USA.....VIVA MEXICO Y IRELAND!!!

  • I watched this game on TV but I didn't think about finding it with the original Irish narrators. I was 14 at that time, greetings from MX!

  • good game from both teams....

i backed mexico to beat ireland this day... they were 12/5...

i knew how hot it can get in orlando having gone there the previous year]

and just thought the mexicans would be more comfortable with the climate..

  • Hey I counted at least 13 passes before the goal... and they said Ireland under Jack was just a long ball team

  • They did play long ball under jack @ MickeyMcGoo . just because you say 13 passes before a goal ,thats not the entire match lol.

  • Great to see two Liverpool Irish lads doing the job, great cross by McAteer and great head by Aldo..legend

  • i remember that game!! Great game!! i met 2 irish fellas in san diego 2 years ago! great guys very humble we went drinking and shit cool friends!

    cheers from Mexico!.

  • lol cool :D

  • its roy keane.not robbie keane.

  • omfg did he say Keane as in robbie keane man that guy is old

  • Was at that game, hottest f'in day ever... For all of Charlton's tactics, we kept the ball lovely there. Very good goal.

  • Typical goal by Aldo, scored hundreds of them. Absolute legend. The Irish Bierhoff. XD

  • VIVA MEXICO,,,,,,VIVA IRELAND,,,,,,,did you know that alot of Irish soldiers fought on Mexico side during the Mexican/American war,,,,,there is even a day in Mexico where thoes Irish soldiers are celebrated for fighting bravely for Mexico,,,even thoe,,,the USA had better guns way and more soldiers,,,,THAT IS HONOR

  • i didnt know that at all, thats kinda cool, the irish were always fond of a fight wherever it may be, alot of irish fought in the spanish civil war too

  • Also alot of Irish fought on the American side, funny how wars work. The Irish are a great people and made America great with hard work.

  • @mexiclan696 I have Mexican cousins and was in Mexico twice, really great people, hard working and very friendly, we won't be in the World Cup but I wish Mexico good luck

  • @mexiclan696 yes, and that between 300k-500k mexicans are of irish decent. the only difference between the irish and the mexicans is the weather and language lol

  • @mexiclan696 I'm glad for that comment,I'd gladly fight along aside my Mexican Brothers :-) , Peace, From Ireland, As you said "VIVA MEXICO ... VIVA IRELAND"

  • classic fucked up reception loving it.

  • Yeah!! Really made me think I was watching it with the aul bunny ears, I could almost hear my Da saying Jaysus the reception's shite!

  • I STILL have that jersey

  • praia da luz legend!

  • got to meet him and get his autograph.legend

  • you're absolutely right....John Aldridge is our legend..

for Liverpool & Ireland he's one of the most beloved players..

  • 'the difference between getting through or not', spot on guys. The heat bet us in that game more so than Mexico

  • thats very true, my people are used to the climate.

  • McAteer and Aldridge both scouse both TRANMERE legends, this is why more Irish should support the SWA! Add Liam O Brien,Alan Mahon,Joe Murphy,Ian Nolan to the list aswell.

  • remember Paul Mcgrath's disallowed goal versus the Netherlands in WC94 too. this one and Paul's were 2 classy goals

  • Aldo, putting Robbie Keane and all those cunts that play in an Irish jersey now to shame. That man had more committment, and dedication than most of our present players lumped together. Oh and ye, piss off Stephen Ireland, ure a lying wanker and a waster ! - Jackie Charlton wouldn't have stood for ure ineptitude , shite and excuses.

  • Mate I agree with you on Stephen Ireland, but to say that the Irish players are 'cunts' and say they aren't dedicated is bullshit. Robbie Keane is fully committed to the green shirt. Kevin Kilbane is one of the finest professionals to play for us. Richard Dunne also... Your comments are unfair. Get behind the lads, we have a great chance to get to 2010

  • Yep, did mention Stephen Ireland (Wanker) and I think Robbie Keane is a fucking glory cunt, but I didn't mention Dunne or kilbane, u did not me ????

  • Sorry mate how do you come to that conclusion about Robbie Keane?

  • Keane is a moaning whinging diver ! - Always moaning to his team mates about how they didnt put the ball to his feet, going down the minute he feels a defenders breath on his neck, and the biggest whinger to referees we have. What gets my wick is that he is so talented, and has brilliant skill, if he only stayed on his feet more, he'd be 10 times the player he is now. Have to agree with you on Kilbane, always solid, strong, workman like performances, he should be captain, not Keane.

  • duff goes down more then keane

  • keanes sister goes down more then him lol

  • we won the game! haha

    luis garcia is the best

and the goalkeeper jorge campos was the number 1 in 1994

  • Well done for winning, we salute you. no need to be laughig about it though.

  • ok sorry

some coments of here makeme wrote this

we ( mex and ire) go to africa !!

    yehahh

  • john u legend

  • that was class, especially after the hassle he had trying to get on the pitch!!!!

  • whats that idiot calling aldridge scum for the stupid cunt, you'll never beat the irish, nice mexican goalie kits too

  • If Aldridge hadn't scored that goal, Norway would have passed to the next round :-(

  • if my grandma would have wheels she would have being a car

  • or she could have been a bike

  • ledgend
