  • the government should honestly sell these at a loss to them in order to get the ball rolling. At this day in age, this is a second or third car at best and the mass market that will make this car a success cannot put that much money down for a 2nd or 3rd car. If they sell this car at a loss to start....it will skyrocket in sales much much sooner than it would costing at least 50K. Majority of people would rather buy a brand name vehicle with 50k rather than a range limited secondary car.

  • Tesla is the future.

  • the battery industry is going to be one of the most valuable in the world

  • want. want? want! DO WANT!!!

  • Tesla autos are manufactured in San Carlos, California with the motor and controller built in Taiwan.

  • Nice looking and brilliant, revolutionary design! Rear wheel drive, Floor placing battery, 0~60mph in 4.4 sec......very appealing. I would buy one.

  • Elon Musk is seriously my hero.

  • This car is often compared to the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi [electric car], Toyota Prius and Chevy Volt, yet it's more like an Audi or BMW. That said, its pure electric drive train and its performance make its gas-powered equivalents look like Rube Goldberg machines - all those little parts moving about compressing and blowing up gas and pumping water and oil...only to get 30% efficiency...at best...

  • @gorrammit haha yeah i noticed most other electric cars like chevy volt or nissan leaf dont even come close to getting the job done.. its like a disgrace compared to this car because they didnt built a successful/usable car but we'll see when it comes out :D

  • Dear Santa...

Wait, it's not out yet? Darn...

  • Cant wait for Tesla Model x and The bluestar

  • if i was in a better position to buy a model s i would. tesla motors is worth my time, money, and effort.

  • Disagree strongly with the 'pure' electric statements in designing a car. You can build an extended range vehicle. The company is in a very uncompetitive position. Few capital resources, flawed distribution strategy and unrealistic production figures. I am sad to say that Tesla and A123 will follow in the footsteps of Solyndra. Should have pursued a different strategy. Blind ambition and naive investors.

  • @FormulaWill don't be such a pessimist. I envy his need for change and it is an attitude that more companies should adopt. I heard a great quote recently. "The People that are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually are the ones that do"

  • how much is it? 2:33

  • @mireya1rivera About $50,000 USD.

  • i bought a bunch of their stock, its now at $30 =)

  • Who - if anyone - makes Tesla?

  • @Mr7boxes Tesla?

  • @Mr7boxes

They are their own company, but I think they are partners with Mercedes-Benz and Toyota.

  • @piemanization

Yes on their own co, partners not

  • Very Apple-esque advertisement.

  • @theprince08853

Except, unlike Apple computers, this car doesn't just look nice but can actually do something.

  • i'm suprised the oil companies are not lowering oil prices to keep people from permanently hating oil and gas guzzling cars which i think is happening so now even if gas went all the way down to the prices it used to be like 1.80 a gallon....people will not trust the prices to stay down for long so there is a shift towards hybrid and electric cars now in the US!

Tesla needs to advertise more, this car sounds too good to be reliable like Toyota cars

  • you should lease one of this car to young teenager, i am should they will test the limit of this vehicle. Your test pilot baby the car, you need to put it on real road situation.

  • I understand that you can charge this at home using the charging station and from 120 and 240 volt wall outlets but how would you charge this if you lived in an apartment complex. Last I looked most apartment complexes don't have outlets in the parking spots, even if you have covered parking. Also, how would you charge this if you took a trip that was more than the 300 miles that the car is capable of? Also, what income would you need to have to afford one of these without breaking the bank?

  • I like it and hope all goes well so I can purchase one. AWD should be added as well!!!!

  • Not enough ground clearance.

  • Why is it full of electricity consuming "bling" ...surely youd want to save as much electricity as possible. I mean....wots wrong with manual door handles....mmmmmm.....guys ?????????

  • Does anyone know why there's a grill?

  • i already loved tesla, but as a hockey fan the gretzky analogie just made me the happiest person on the planet

  • I Want one of each of these, the Roadster and the Sedan :D bring them out to Australia PLEASE :D

  • Looks stunning, and very innovative, even better if you charge this using a solar panel array, then the energy is almost truly renewable. Hopefully in the future factories making these cars will use 100% solar power too, moving towards a cleaner more SUISTANAIBLE future, as opposed to burning fossil fuels and wasting resources :(

  • 50 grand is getting a lot better. Here comes Tesla

  • best American car

  • Did... Did Elon Musk just quote Wayne Gretzky?

    Fuckin boss.

Here's another one from Henry Ford: "If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would've said a faster horse."

  • With solar panels any of the cars shown in the video and basically anything that can save you money fuck gas

  • expensive expensive expensive, BUT very cool and good for the planet. The lowdown on the model S is this: The standard $49k version can only go 160 miles between charges. The 'Signature' edition (Priced $77k) goes 300miles. To charge in 45 min requires a 480 Volt power adapter and transformer both of which are extremely expensive, not portable (2 inch thick copper wire) and dangerous. All that said, if I had $50k lying around, I would absolutely buy this car.

  • I'm not a guy that likes money or luxury but I'd work my ass off just to get this car and support Tesla Motors and Elon.

  • Does Tesla even care about the electric car besides cashing-in off the Government Grant of 350 Million?? Once they receive the 350 Million, 250M going to the Project, who the heck cares about the environment. People who own Pure Battery Cars complain that it loses power over time. They Lose range over the years leaving a practically useless car. How far will this stimulus grant go before OiL Companies win. I don't know the Tesla Battery Technology. Hopefully it does good. Go Tesla!!

  • @tnguyen318 Don't know if they actually care or not but what I do know is that ANY battery loses intensity and capacity over time. It's basic chemistry/physics. Just replace it,

  • What if I tell you there is a Battery that doesn't lose power over time.

  • @tnguyen318 I'd say that it goes against all the until-now observed laws of nature :)

  • Then laws of nature has been disproved.

  • @tnguyen318 The law(s) of nature cannot be disproved. The only thing to be disputable is our model/our understanding of it/them.

That being said, if you have empirical proof of such a battery, present it to me and I shall evaluate it to confirm or disprove your claim of such a device's existence.

  • That is not the Laws of Nature. The Lithium Battery will be replaced by the Atomic Battery Soon. Failure to improve battery technology because you want money from OiL doesn't say there won't be a Battery that will not Lose Power over-time. In fact there is technology right now in which the battery sustains itself.

  • @tnguyen318 Dude, atomic power is simply the transformation of matter in energy. It's usually a process that takes more power than it gives back. The exceptions are the ones we know: the heavy elements. The downside? They're limited and they get depleted. Also, they're radioactive.

A reasonable atomic battery will be possible in probably 800 years or so.

  • That Matter, Anti-Matter Stuff is Fake. It's written by some old fart who's wearing diapers and can barely walk.

  • @tnguyen318 You're a funny guy... Have a nice day :)

  • i just reserved one!! cant wait to drive it!!

  • @marker220 good for you, i wish i had the spare money to do the same.

and thx for supporting the guys

  • I want one I WANT ONE iwantone...car is damn sexay

  • HOW MUCHO???

  • @BumbleBeeGS I'm not being negative, I'm just curious so how about you just stfu.

  • By 2020 we'll be dead by then. It's good Tesla would build Electric cars that are simple and less expensive. Less costly driving is what we all need. Not that we want gas stations to go out of business, its that gasoline is polluting and require too much work to make.

  • What is the amount of electricity it uses?

  • Can someone that's 6'6" fit in the Tesla Model S? I'm just curious because I really do truly like this car. I can't imagine fitting in the roadster. I do drive a 09 honda civic si and fit in it just fine.

  • 75% of things will fit into something if you jam it in.

  • Those cars are gorgeous and they are at the front of an incoming wave. I really, really want a Tesla.

  • Tesla make great cars. 300 mile range is incomparable.

  • Electric is smart, clean, fast and awesome! :D

  • Yes they are. The only problem is batteries deplete and lose power. There is Technology right now to eliminate that problem. However nobody is doin' anything about it because they don't believe.

  • The T guys seem to be nailing it.......great looking car.....won't scare the market. Good to see there pressing on with the all electric, and have the courage of their convictions.

  • I am so sick of "contrarians" and their negativity... It's THAT attitude that leads us down dead end roads in the first place. "skate to where the puck is going to be" I can't wait to own my own TESLA.

  • I am so sick of "contrarians" and their negativity... It's THAT attitude that leads us down dead end roads. I can't wait to own my own TESLA.

  • This car is ver nice but a regular non fastback would be great too

  • The ONLY reason you don't have an SUV that is ALL ELECTRIC that can go 1200 miles on a single charge is the CHEVRON PATENT that is holding the batteries hostage. The batteries in the TESLA are twice the weight or half the distance the science allows due to the CHEVRON PATENT that controls all EV batteries. It is a crime against humanity that an oil corporation should be allowed such power of arrested development.

  • This will be my car once I have money

  • Please have production for Australia, Right Hand Drive! Awesome looking car, i want one NOW :D

  • If Top Gear gives it a green light,I want two. S. Calif. outside of the Valley

  • 45 minutes?!? That rocks!! Stop for lunch and recharge, then on for another 245 miles.

  • @rmcdaniel423 300.

  • @ryanathan2 it's 70k for the 300 mile in one charge (482 km).

  • The car is very beautiful...

  • Stupenda! Non vedo l'ora di guidarla.

Stupendous! I don't see the hour to drive it.

  • i really like the Model S...

  • it looks like a blend of jaguar aston martin and maserati I think it looks great

  • I'm german, if we talk about the American Car, we only laugh about this car, because the need so much Pertol.

But know Tesla, everybody say great car and it looks so sexy include the Electric engine, its for one of the perfect cars. Congratulations American, this company can be grow to an big Company,, thats makes good cars.

  • if i had 109,000 i'd buy it NOW !!!!!

  • @alagogo its $49k lool The Roadster is 109k. Still $49k is a hefty price but come on...You get a Jag+Maserati+Aston Martin mix thats all electric and you're going to be saving a BUNCH on gas. Plus $7.5k tax credits, Free Parking and AS i recall, you can drive in the carpool lanes SOLO :))

  • @sortmasivci i was referencing the roadster 109,000 thats what i'd buy . if you thought the sedan you missunderstood me my appologies

  • @sortmasivci You are DAMN RIGHT

  • @sortmasivci

I don't know about an all-electric car though. I mean, it's really hard to get any vehicle that fully electric operated to function properly. But it would be great if they can succeed!!!

  • @tmat04 Really hard? Electric cars are so much less complex than internal combustion engines when it comes to moving parts. The hard parts to trouble shoot will be the electronics involved in charging and regulating the batteries, but the propulsion system should be no issue. I for see a new career path for electrical engineers and armature techs

  • @spyderman4g63

To perfect this technology is a monumental task, and may take years. We have a golf-cart that is fully battery operated on the job, and this thing is a nightmare! When you're ascending a hill, it hasn't got much power! And when you're descending, the breaks don't work properly! The handle is not that good. And don't even ask what happens if you leave it parked away from the outlet for 1/2 an hour!

  • @tmat04 The tesla is worlds away from a golf cart, way better batteries, much more powerful motor etc. The golf cart uses a car battery or 2 and a small, barely adequate electric motor.

  • One of my main issues with hybrids is that they don't have the cool factor of a nice sporty car. I'm hardly a racer, but I like a quick car with great handling ,great acceleration, etc. And I'm not afraid to run it hard and live a bit on the wild side.

Tesla makes all of this possible with an electric. And that is pretty awesome.

  • yeah and right now gass is about 5 bucks i really want that tesla too bad i aint even half in the budget there but first god my next car will be electric im tired of getting ripped at the gas station

  • Now imagine if they didnt have a budget limit.. Imagine if they could apply teslas electromagnetic router design to power the car as you move.. If only the monetary systems would allow that.. :\

  • imagine how much less dependancy on foreign oil we would have if everyone used electric cars for city driving and commuting. i bet 80% of our miles are just spent around town or commuting, which could easily be replaced with electric powered driving. think of all the gas wasted with people who drive huge trucks/suvs just going around town.

people dont even realize electric cars are faster than gas-guzzlers, and can be much more fun to drive

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have to know how this will only be 50k

  • tthe government needs to stop supporting GM and start supporting these guys

  • @kungfufreak360 unfortunately GM still had gobs of money and lots of lobbyists. Politicians don't support GM because they're nice guys who have great ideals. It's all about connections and influence.

  • @kungfufreak360 You are so right!!!!

  • @kungfufreak360 i agree with you man

  • @kungfufreak360 ....... they gave them a few hundred million dollars i feel like that's enough help...

  • @kungfufreak360 Agreed my good man!

  • @kungfufreak360 The Bush Family still needs to collect their profits from the oil they obtained by "liberating" Iraq.

  • @kungfufreak360 If the US had actually supported their electric vehicles in the 90s they would still be the best in the world but they gave it away to the Germans and Japanese. Even Korea make better cars than Americans now! Tesla is the only innovative company left and it receives no support.

  • @squirtstarz They were just given a loan of 500 million from the government.

  • @dansemacabre17 money well spent...I hope, lol

  • in the future i will be proud to drive this car.

  • @pjdsfavs

I'm being conservative. Not everybody will be able to quick charge since it requires a very high voltage source. Many people will use either a 120 or 220 volt source.

  • @trekgeek1 Fastes charge is 1 hour - requires 3 phase juice, which a home seldom has. At home the

car charges at level 2 rates - about 4 hours - that's 240 volts, 70 amps. Every home can support such a

circuit. Complete recharges at 120 volts are rather silly, but one seldom requires a complete recharge.

  • I need this in Europe!!!

  • one of the most beautiful design that man ever created

  • Electric cars are here to stay. They won't quietly go away this time,& I happy. Once the price is affordable I WILL BUY ANY ALL ELECTRIC CAR. & I love the Tesla Co. They ROCK.

Keep up the GREAT work Tesla :o)

  • @lawman122

The Tesla Model S is going to be 50k USD

  • @lawman122

Well, they are electric so wherever they go, they'll be quiet :)

  • Electric vehicle technology has come a long way since the early 1990's. Back then you were extremly lucky if your electric Geo Metro could go 100 miles on a single charge. 300 miles on a single charge is quite a distance. That's only about 50 miles short of my old Dodge Neon.

  • @phattyhales Yes it is that simple! Lotus is and seemingly a very unique manufacturer. Recall the Exige was using a Toyota motor....Lotus either doesn't care to produce their own motor or doesn't have the resources to create its' own motor. If indeed the "S" is a Lotus design, Lotus is "hungry" for a powerplant...right up Teslas' alley....a perfect marriage. In the thirties, American car companies like...Duzenburg ?? had "coach builders" somewhat similar to Lotus.

  • The company will never survive pricing this sedan at 50K.......expect the price to creep up, up and away. I would guess it will top out at 90K...beyond most buyers today. With that, expect this to go the way of the Tucker. Advanced perhaps, but poorly engineered. The coupe wired up thousands of laptop batteries....Anyone can wire up some lithium Ion AA batteries, that doesn't make it "Advanced"

  • @RichardEllisxyz its not that simple buddy.

  • @RichardEllisxyz Wow...did Exxonmobil send you a nice check for typing that on youtube?

  • @Nichen no no one sent him a check he is just a brainwashed oil puppet that promotes fucked up oil companies for free ahah whateva tha reason tesla going big homes right

  • its advanced because it has a battery management system and its liquid cooled to prolonge the life of the batteries. Something no other car manufacturer has done or is doing matter of fact no car company is even using lithium batteries. Sounds like that fits the definition of advanced you know when your doing something no one else is. You have to remember the (base model) is 50k, the 300 mile sport version will obviously cost 70-90. the base will probably have shitty batteries no touch screen

  • gorgeous, id buy one in a second

  • I like the model s more than the roadster.

  • As someone said before: Welcome future! Welcome freedom!

  • 50k hmmm idk about that I see the point of the fact that you don't need gas, but still its an investment for the first of its kind this car is bound to have problems

  • @fizwizx

yeah and gas cars have been on the market for 70 years and guess what, they still have a million and one problems. Electric Cars aren't new, they originally started making them in the 50s problem was there was no efficiency. Todays tech has fixed that issue. This is the first Sedan by Tesla but there electric car tech has been proven!

  • @zerox169 Electric cars are as old as gascars. Back in the really old days (early 1900s) the electric cars was more popular because less noice and less hassle. The problem was the price, and increased demands for a car from the middle class made the cheaper gasoline cars more popular

  • If I would buy one of these cars. I would not need to care so much about were the electricity is produced. Here in Sweden, the electricity is actually made by waterpower for 50 %. That's good. The other half of it is nuclear power. Anyway, that's a cool car! The range seams to be quite good too.

  • @gurra1351 Sorry, I missed the thumbs up

  • The only thing I wonder about electric cars is this: Their main attraction is the fact that they don't produce emissions and you don't pay to fill them up with gas. But how much more is your electricity bill going to up by, and, since electricity mainly comes from coal, isn't the pollution just going to come from them producing electricity instead of you producing it from your car? It's a step in the right direction but these issues need to be addressed.

  • @sphynx098

The average Gas car can go 13 cents on a mile while the average electric car can go 4 cents on the mile. Lets not forget that a electric car requires less maintenance so it will save you money their. Coal is not our only place to get electricity, many electric car charging stations will be solar powered. And When you consider that our modern day coal plants are 80% efficient compared to your cars 25% efficient it still better to get you energy from coal then from gas.

  • @sphynx098 solar and wind power even grid tie inverters to run your meter backwards, some states pay you to give energy back to the grid. your welcome

  • Who cares if you need to charge it overnight? Really, most people have more than one car. People may have a sedan and a truck. Why? Because one vehicle can't do everything well. You commute with the sedan and pull trailers with the truck. For the same reason you will have an electric vehicle and a gas vehicle. Need to drive 700 miles in 24 hours? Gas vehicle. Need to drive normally? electric vehicle for 350 days out of the year. Imagine, no gas station visits! Just plug it in and it's ready.

  • @trekgeek1 on top gear they had two teslas (the original though) for testing, and even with two they ran out of battery after 40 miles and there was a point when both were charging and they had no car to drive haha

  • @exiledrabbit

I question their methods if a car with a range of 200 miles depleted its battery in 40 miles. As an electrical engineer, I know there are limitations on how fast you can drain a battery. To deplete a battery of that capacity in that time seems to exceed the power consumption of the car. After typing this, I found the following:

autoblog. com/2008/12/22/bbc-responds-to-teslas-top-gear-complaints/. Just remove the space in the URL.

  • @trekgeek1 okay you can give me all the science you want as an electrical engineer but the truth is that they had two cars, drove them around a track (which is clearly more demanding than everyday driving) until both were charging at once. I'm not lying, you can watch the show yourself and draw your own conclusions. In fact, I suggest you do so.

  • @exiledrabbit

"Top Gear crew can be seen pushing one of their Tesla test-cars into the garage after apparently running out of juice... except that it never happened. The BBC has released a statement admitting that Clarkson's tester still had power left and the scene was filmed to show what would happen if the battery had actually been depleted."

    - The provided link.

By their own admission, the car wasn't drained. What you saw was staged. That's undeniable and an unfair test.

  • @trekgeek1 the BBC admitted, top gear still says it's real. which would you trust, a massive broadcasting channel from a foreign country or the most popular car show in the world, thats, you know about cars. what would top gear get from lying about how the tesla performed

  • @exiledrabbit

Which would I trust? Both. Top Gear is a BBC program and receives funding through the BBC. Therefore they don't need to kiss ass to advertisers. Second, "The principal means of funding the BBC is through the television licence, costing £145.50 per year per household (as of April 2010)"

    -Wikepedia.

So the BBC doesn't need to lie for revenue either. Top Gear tried to make a point by making a joke. It came off dishonest. So neither practiced intentional deceit, just a mistake.

  • @trekgeek1 This does not surprise me. I'm not saying that the Top Gear crew doesn't generally give honest reviews of cars without industry involvement, but they are first and foremost a show for entertainment and are entertainers who do some outlandish things to maintain their audience.

Secondly I think Clarkson is a petrol head and even if an electric car outpaced any petrol car, he would still prefer the v8's etc for the roar of their engine.

  • @thurstanh

Yeah, good point. That's like my brother. There is no way I can convince him that an electric motor is superior engineering. He still claims that the roar of the engine is necessary. Personally, I think a silent acceleration is pretty awesome.

  • @trekgeek1 Mind you also that this car gets 300 miles to a full charge. I'm sure you could find a night to recharge before you drive 300 miles!

  • @trekgeek1 Who says the Tesla Model S has to be charged overnight? With Level 3 charging the time required is one HOUR. That means you can easily travel as far as you wish. At home level 2 charging requires around 4 hours.

  • @trekgeek1 No... They have a quick charger that takes 3 hours or even 45 minutes to charge a car.

  • @linkinfan12

I think that takes a higher 3-phase voltage that most people don't have installed normally. Let me know if I'm wrong about that.

  • @trekgeek1 Actually, the one that charges in 45 minutes is from the stations and yes you would be correct not something you have in your house. But the 240 volt outlet charger will do it in 3.5 hours. And if your home your car isn't moving.

  • @trekgeek1 It doesn't really matter if you need to charge it overnight, so long as you can get a full day's worth of driving out of a single charge, you're pretty much set.

  • @trekgeek1 okayy and what happens with your electric bill?? you dont suppose that stays the same way with a sedan draining electric to power a car?

  • @DjDayroo

The electricity is much cheaper than gas. If you charge on off-peak hours, it's about 1 penny per mile. Overall, you save money not buying gas.

  • @trekgeek1 You know, owning one of these EVs, and then renting a gas car on the 4 or 5 occasions a year when you need to see the relatives, probably the future of family transport.

  • i want one, and a solar/wind power recharge station

  • The utility companies love this car.

  • To charge an electric car with a 50 kwh battery in 5 minutes would require a three phase cable that can handle 415 volts at around 850 amps. If you want a charging station to supply that amount of power to several cars you would need a substation for every charging station that can handle around 5MVA., which increases demand on the grid. I can only see mass usage of electric vehicles if Dense Plasma Focus proves to be feasible, then you could build a power plant wherever you want a station.

  • @Phi1point62 Are you like a super smart electrical engineer or something? I didn't even know there was such thing as "dense plasma focus". Sounds really cool...can you make lightsabers from it?

  • @EliteSlayer542 I'm a third year electrical engineering student. A Dense Plasma Focus can generate energy through the fusion of hydrogen and boron that would be more compact and much cheaper than other methods of nuclear fusion being researched. A dense plasma focus power plant could generate a few megawatts in a building the size of a double garage so it would make a facility that could charge vehicles in 5 minutes practical. Look up Focus Fusion if you want to learn more.

  • @Phi1point62 That sounds really cool, but i got 2 questions, is it good for the environment/safe to be around? I mean, something that fully charge a car in 5 minutes sounds...dangerous to say the least. And, can you make lightsabers from it?

  • @EliteSlayer542 As long as the enclosure is constructed well it's perfectly safe. It does make materials inside the device radioactive but the half-life lasts only a few hours so it doesn't produce any nuclear waste. You can't make lightsabers from it but you could probably stick a Focus Fusion generator on a ship and use it to power a railgun.

  • @Phi1point62 Thanks for the info, I really wanna check this out, it sounds awesome.

And are railguns the same thing as Gauss cannons (like from video games) or are they different?

  • @EliteSlayer542 Gauss cannons use a coil to shoot projectiles while railguns use two conductive parallel rails to shoot the projectile.

  • @Phi1point62 Ah, cool, thanks for answering my questions dude :)

  • The two main things preventing me from wanting to reserve this car are:

-the charge time required for a full range (300mi range, overnight charge)? Something that would make this car far more appealing is a 5 min charge. although that is just wishful thinking at this point.

-maintenance costs of an electric car. all of the infrastructure is geared towards a gasoline car. If something goes wrong with this, where would i take it?

but i lust for this vehicle like no other.....

  • @Karmakameleeon

    - read what I wrote in regards to charging an electric car in 5 minutes.

    - as long as an electric motor has good bearings and doesn't use brushes then the only mainentance it may need would be adding a little grease to the bearings occasionally but it probably wouldn't need to be done. Only the other parts of the car such as wheels and brakes would need maintenance.

  • The two main things preventing me from wanting to reserve this car are:

-the charge time required for a full range (300mi range, overnight charge)? Something that would make this car far more appealing is a 5 min charge. although that is just wishful thinking at this point.

  • If i buy a car i want to hear the engine roar. Electric cars are boring.

  • @sarzamineiran I want a car that preforms. Not a car that's all bark and no bite.

  • Fuck you liberal tree hugging pussy

  • @sarzamineiran lol yeah right. This isn't politics, this is science.
