The difference between RE4 fear and Dead Space fear, is that RE4 was actually dynamically scary. Dead space was pretty much static the whole time. Constant creepy music/ sounds/ boo moments seriously got old after the first couple hours. RE4 however had parts that were creepy, parts that were super suspenseful and intense, parts that were heavy action paced, parts that were calming (typewriter), and parts where you fucking wanted to shit your pants (Verdugo, regenerators etc.)
I love both games but i think i have to go with dead space because it more like a survival horror more claustrophobic where resident evil, on the path its going, is becoming more of a action shooter, but with characters resident evil has the upper hand because they have more verity and back story where dead space doesnt have as many characters and as much back story but theyre just as lovable

As a horror dead space outclasses resident evil. It gives you claustrophobia, fear, and paranoia all without giving you a scapegoat to translate it for you. The fact that faceless Isaac is faceless lets all the thrills, chills, and twists fall directly to the player. Resident evil makes you scared, and gives you thrills but they're not as good as they could be. Also I don't feel its right to compare prices with RE and Dead space because RE has nostalgia and Dead space is brand new.
the enemies art and music really get me into it more than resident evil did.
plus you would be surprised at how drastically combat is improved when you can actually move while aiming.. seriously why did RE not do that to begin with. seems obvious.

no problem with keeping mind open, but i find a bad idea to take out umbrella corp. and T-virus from the game ... and make crazy spanish people with red eyes that caries guns... in the moment you take out umbrella and t-virus the game is not resident evil anymore. Ill be honest, I've played dead space 1 and 2, and played resident evil 1 and 2, and 3, and 4, etc. I love both games, but RE isn't scary anymore, and even in RE 1 I wasn't really that scared because of how cheap the voice acting was. Hell, even in REmake the voice acting kept me laughing. But in dead space, the games creepy atmosphere, tight and dark areas, and ambient sound effects kept me fucking scared. So I'd go with dead space if it was a contest of which is scarier.

Yes we wouldn't have DS w/o RE4 but this wasn't supposed to be about past RE games vs DS it was supposed to be about DS vs RE5 which wasn't a traditional RE game and came up short in my opinion vs DS. It seems like the guys in this video just dodged the whole RE5 vs DS and made it about the entire RE series vs DS in which case DS loses, not the actual issue RE5 vs DS which IMO DS wins.

Dead space is not even good. I had no motivation to play after like 4 chapters. RE4 I was into from start to finish. Dead Space had no atmosphere and it was like Alan Wake (you fight the same enemies over and over) except no storyline.

Dead space has a better horror atmosphere esp the 1st one but I think the (old) resident evils were closer to the horror genre because of the limited power that your character had. For example, when a hunter (from RE not the one from DS) jumps at you, you have to deal with it instead of stasising it and severing its limbs with your high powered weapons at your leisure. That being said I think that both are awesome.

Dead Space however at 1st came out like a rip off cuz same gameplay to RE4 and 5 but a newer and older trend came, You can use weapons secondary fire, buy ammo (Why havent RE ever done so?) and a different perspective in enemies. Now as for the older trend, PURE HORROR finally popping out monsters unexpectedly that sense where you be like "GET ME THE FUCK OUT OF HERE" moments. I still have love for RE but Dead Space has really impressed me and scared me after some years of gaming.
I say that dead space takes the cake, cuz back then RE use to be scary from 1 through 3, then 4 came along still a little scary then 5 came and messed it all up turning into action, The Essence of RE was about horror I bet if a newer generation gamer will still shit his/her pants after playing RE2 Now its all Government officials, military wise, giant monsters and just plain out bull. Re4/5 not scary at all, they feel SO much different when compared to re1 to 3.
DS had it's moments, where I just HAD to walk slow, I'd end up being extremely cautious.
It also had one of the coolest boss battles I've ever seen, but way too easy.
A lot of things in the game become very predictable when you've watched horror movies, and have played these sort of games before.
I think DS and RE are on a comparable level.

Yes we wouldn't have DS w/o RE4 but this wasn't supposed to be about past RE games vs DS it was supposed to be about DS vs RE5 which wasn't a traditional RE game and came up short in my opinion vs DS. It seems like the guys in this video just dodged the whole RE5 vs DS and made it about the entire RE series vs DS in which case DS loses, not the actual issue RE5 vs DS which IMO DS wins.

RE wins on almost every level, yes RE5 was one of the worst entries, but saying RE4 sucks but DS is amazing is an oxymoron, bc we wouldn't hav DS without RE4, and RE4 was a way better game than DS. It is hard to reinvent the wheel, but the RE series has reinvented the survival horror genre on multiple occasions, even inspired some third person shooter action games as well, DS can't compare to that

Guys neither of games were scary. DS was a little scary at the beginning. After that it was mostly not scary. But the action and weapons kicked ass. I love both games. Re5 ROCKS. But neither of them were that scary. If you want a scary game, play Amnesia : the Dark Desent

i dont really like the old re games..4 got me into the series..i picked up 5 and love them both..but then i get the older ones and they werent fun to me..they were very boring slow paced and just wasnt what i was into..but on the other hand i love 4 and 5..BUT dead space is defidently better than 4 and 5 combined..its for 1 scarier and you can walk and shoot better graphics better story and just literally everything about dead space shits all over resident evil 4 and 5..i still love them though.

I can't see how people find Dead Space "scary." :-| Although... To be a bit more relevant, Dead Space isn't really in the same genre and category as Resident Evil 5. Dead Space has a much more conspicuous fear factor.
Maybe it's my age. =/ I'm 21, going on 22. I remember being scared of playing Resident Evil 2, but that's then and this is now, I suppose.
Guess I'm not really one for survival horror games. I can't really put myself into the intended, scared mindset to play them.

Dead space is not even good. I had no motivation to play after like 4 chapters. RE4 I was into from start to finish. Dead Space had no atmosphere and it was like Alan Wake (you fight the same enemies over and over) except no storyline.

I completely disagree with IGN. Resident Evil 1-3, Code Veronica and the Revamp of the first were the best and true to it's nature. RE4 had nothing to do with RE. RE4 and RE5 was a disappointment. Dead Space is a better survival horror game and nothing like RE4 and 5. So quit comparing them idiots!

Dead space has a better horror atmosphere esp the 1st one but I think the (old) resident evils were closer to the horror genre because of the limited power that your character had. For example, when a hunter (from RE not the one from DS) jumps at you, you have to deal with it instead of stasising it and severing its limbs with your high powered weapons at your leisure. That being said I think that both are awesome.

@weapons232 Dead Space has zombies yes. A corpse that has been brought back to life, that is a zombie. Resident Evil 5 has infected villagers through a form of parasite, they are not reanimated corpses. Necromorphs are reanimated corpses, so they are a form of zombie.

Dead Space however at 1st came out like a rip off cuz same gameplay to RE4 and 5 but a newer and older trend came, You can use weapons secondary fire, buy ammo (Why havent RE ever done so?) and a different perspective in enemies. Now as for the older trend, PURE HORROR finally popping out monsters unexpectedly that sense where you be like "GET ME THE FUCK OUT OF HERE" moments. I still have love for RE but Dead Space has really impressed me and scared me after some years of gaming.
