Brilliant !!! I love painting but not good at it..I never came across with knife painting .. today I realised how interesting and realistic it is..I must try..inspiring video...thanks ...
@PsboyX360 not it doesn't have to I paint on wood a lot and it works just fine. Actually i like painting wood more so than canvas when using a palette knife.
I just so happen to see a video where a man claimed to be an artist and made a Painting that looked like a child created it and sir you have changed my view on knife painting completely. This is Amazing and i admire you for your talent
3:40 - be careful fisherman, a bear is sneaking up on you!!! Sorry, couldn't help myself... :) Watching seriously to learn from this video and suddenly I start giggling, as my fantasy gets the better of me... :)
I love this! Quick question, how do you get your oil paint to spread so far? Whenever I do it the tooth of the canvas just stops it. Is it because this canvas isn't stretched?
@LovesRain Apply a really thin layer of linseed oil onto the canvas before you paint. This will allow the paint to glide across the surface with ease!
It does have to be fairly taut for the technique to work.
Also, the paint must be sufficiently oily and the canvas must have enough priming. If there's only one coat of gesso the paint will drag as you describe.
@LovesRain Looks like he is painting on a panel, not a canvas. Look at the start, you can see the edges, which sure can't be the edge of an unstretched canvas. So obviously he is painting on a smooth surface. To get such a surface on a canvas, you have to gesso it several times and sand between each layer until you get the wanted surface.

what kind of paint is he using and is it necessary that it has to be an actual canvas?

An excellent creation. It seems, the hand is experienced. Colours changed to creativity by palette knife. This is called the actual art.
Best complements,

@MsPlantBuddy yeah it works for me.

@MsPlantBuddy Yes, But you might want to keep a spray bottle on hand to spritz your palette and keep the paint from skinning over.
