  • "1982" 5yrs old, MAN!!, I miss those days!!! I'm a EMCEE and Writer now and I have to say that the letter people had three songs that really drew me to music and words MR.S, MS. A & MR. M

  • This is cool. I forgot this show was actually made in my home town. I wonder if he is still around. I would love to hire him to perform this song at my birthday bash or something. I bet people would really love it.

  • I was MRS.S in the letterpeople play in kindergarten...good time (:

  • mr s is the greatest letter person ever the sons track is super oh did i mention my name is sam

  • He was one of my favorites. Man this brings back memories.

  • Prefer the record version waaaaaay more.

  • Mr. S was voiced by a well known St. Louis actor who worked extensively in musical theatre and was a fabulous singer. That is most likely why he sang his songs. Perhaps the other voice artists were not singers

  • I remember My Kindergarten days when we only got the vinyl accompanied by a inflated version of the character. Never a video. But this is AWESOMe!

  • @kcsledge95 The same thing happened to me when I was in kindergarten!

  • i was in kindergarten in 1983 and i still knew the words to the song. miss percle told us if we all took our naps, when we woke up, the next letter person would appear. this is why sleep probs are nonexistent on south louisiana.

  • @joyjoy70301 That's such a good idea. :)

  • Omg this brought tears to my eyes...my cousin had every one of the lil colorful records and we use to play them(each letter) on the lil white record player with the orange handle..Mr.S was my fave...omg this is classic...memories!

  • Oh my lord, I was in pre-school, the last time I heard this song. Whoever posted this, you rock

  • Love this!!! I learned the letter people in Kindergarten a LONG TIME AGO.

  • I like the puppet version, but the original speaks to me- I didn't know this was a show when we used it in the kindergarten I worked in the late 90's (we just played the cassette for the kids) so I just pictured a little kid, sad and lonely, but with this fantastic ability to imagine things. Go super socks!

  • i remember this from way back in kindergarten

  • Good god... I remember this...

  • They just don't make TV like this anymore.

  • When I was a kid, I always thought he said "Supersonic freak in the sky!" Boy, was I wrong. LOL

  • geez...this takes me way back.,..

  • i remember this shit when i was little back when i was 7. I used to listen this in school he sounds like simba

  • I <3 this this one was my fave :) i still sing this song lolz :3

  • This is how I learn my ABC"s back in kindergarten

  • This is sweet, I learned my letters in kindergarten via the letter people. Each time a new letter person came to our class it would be overnight, so it was always a sweet surprise when we would come in. How Ms. Guinan managed to pull this on us 26 times seems silly, but she did. I wish you would allow embedding...

  • I was born in the year 1990 but know all these songs thanks to my siblings. My mother bought them all the records. I grew singing each and every single letter song. This was great to find on youtube. Took me down memory lane <3

  • @leadpussycatdoll same for me except I was born in '89...I had the books also

  • i remember this from kindergarden

  • 1984-1985 in kindergarten...this was awesome....

  • I remember the first time they showed a letter people episode in my kindergarten class everyone went crazy. This was probably 1986. I swear we were so fired up when Mr. M hit the screen with his munchin' mouth.

    Mr. S is my fav.

  • me and my moms was just talking about this show! Mr. S go hard!! Mr. S and Mr. M were my favorites. But tell my why my mom still know all the words lol. I was like in kindergarten OMG wow

  • This is actually a little SCARY, Mister S!

  • my preschool uses the letter people curriculum. (It a little updated, Mr C is no longer cotton candy but has a colossal cap and mr s is now ms S but pretty much same song with the silly socks, I love it... they love it and it gives them a fun way to learn the alphabet

  • I never noticed this before, but the singer on the TV version of this song sounds a bit like Sammy Davis, Jr.!

  • 1979 kindergarten for me and I can remember watching every episode of The Letter People,. as well as The Electric Company and I also Remember "REAL" Saturday morning cartoons.....

  • they slipped another verse on to the second song... lol thats a lot of S's! but they did, check it out

  • these just music notes- AACA

  • That's letter S peole you know really moody soulful like there's a big place to be moody it's not good either it's sickening he'll try to make you think he's easy to get along with, they'd rather not be alone so now that's the rules they're not funny sounding though( (because sometimes being people can go to the nerves) very let's see serious. What else sticky oh yes always hanging on their skin.

  • One of my favorite songs from the series

  • O my goodness, I thought I would never hear this again. I had the records. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooah!

  • This was the sh!t back in day... I am sure they were all high as hell making music! LMAO

  • Back in Kindergarten I had and still have a crush on Mr. M and Mr. S.

  • I like that it's called a sockcave. Lol.

  • kindergarten man

  • Dude, Mr. S is leet!

  • I had this back in 1990! In Bath, ME. It's pretty much the only thing I remember from Kindergarten.

  • Mr S you were my hero!!! :D :D :D

  • This one, Mr. F, Mr. M, and Mr R were always my favorites....I was one of the last groups that got to enjoy this....I learned them back in 1984

  • Hahaha!!! I had the Letter People in kindergarten, we had them at school, even blow up dolls, and my dad sold them too... I liked them, and me and my siblings used to "rock out" to this song!

  • AHHH...another priceless memory of my 70s childhood. the Letter People RULED. We lived for the days when our teacher would put it on in school.

  • He sounds like Scott Walker.

  • mr s was my favorite of the songs maybe thats why i have a sock fettish now?

  • i don't remember this voice on the tape

  • @MsAmethystPrincess Keep watching he has included the song from the tape aka classroom progam after the video clip.

  • @MsAmethystPrincess Keep watching he has included the song from the tape aka classroom progam after the video clip.

  • OMG, for the longest time I used to think I was crazy, cause I've never met a single person that knew of the Letter People. This song used to be in my head all the time throughout my life, out of nowhere. Especially the chorus, ha!

  • Me too! Nobody else ever grew up on the Letter People either and this is the one Letter that I remember more than the others! How cool to hear this after all these years (about 30 years. Yikes.)

  • Filmed in SEVENTIES-O-VISION!

  • oooooooooh goooood memories here! i remember the first time i saw this! I still belt it out ever now and again. ..."Mr S to the resuce they cry..."

  • OMG This Song Funky As Fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow... I'm surprised I remember this... as a kid...

  • i remember after we watch the show we had to color that letter for the day

  • THIS IS THE BEST!!!! I haven't seen this in years, and I now realize why I also had a thing for Mr. S.

  • groovey mannn,,, groovey

  • super socks! duh-duh dudda-dudda-dudda duh! Mr S kicks aSS! non conformist!

  • you know what.. this one used to freak me the hell out... lol but its got that funky track!

  • We used this in kindergarten in 1989. I still have the original 12" LP. It's in rough shape, but still plays most tracks OK.

  • Ok. So I'm now 33 years old and remember the words to this. My sister still teases me about taping myself singing it all those years ago. Classic.

  • Does this song sound like parts of Spinning Wheel from Blood, Sweat and Tears?

  • Yes! That's why I loved it so much in K-garten. I love how creepy the lyrics are when he says, "when they scold me--I just smile..."

  • Kindergarten, 1987.

  • My first love

  • I'm not kidding, when I was in Kindergarten I had unexplainable feelings for MR.S while I sat in the dark in the back of the classroom on the floor. I thought he was sexy and I wanted him to be my boyfriend, didn't know what we do with each other but I had a crush on him and I looked forward to seeing him make an appearance each week. Never told anyone, I felt no one would understand. Also, I don't smoke pot whatsoever but this clip makes me want to roll one for some reason.

  • Best letter ever!!!

  • I remember this Shit back in Kindergarten Class Back in 1981, I wish i had Super Socks!!!!!!! lol

  • You posted the original audio!! DOPE. your Mr.S because your the SHIT!

  • I watched the Letter People all the time just waiting for Mr. S because my name is Sarah. I liked him but at the same time he scared me...haunted me really. Isn't he a bit freaky?

  • u notice they no longer have programs like this for todays kids? this show was the truth!

  • @dimviesel thats the damn truth thats why alot of kids today are fn retards

  • My Dad used to sell Amway and some how I remember having this record with Tall Teeth Mr. T on the other side and I wore it out!! It makes me miss my dad who died when I was 7. I am now 32... thanks for posting this. :)

  • I'm not sure I would say that about anything I liked: 'You're super okay.' Not exactly the highest compliment, is it? ;)

  • My band covers this song.

  • @captape i wanna come to a gig!

  • @captape Excellent

  • @captape Post a copy!!

  • You'd think these people would have more than 50 cents to spend on special effects.

    XD

    It's a cool song!

  • Yes, the song ROCKS! I wish the puppet sang the entire song, because he really gets into it! As for the effects in the video, I think they are SUPER! :)

  • does any1 know the name of another show that played on this channel that mixed real people an puppets?

  • YES! Mr S is AWESOME!

  • super soooooooooocks!!!!!!

  • Its Now Ms S

  • Mr. S... I remember the Letter People Pen would light up if you got the answer right in the book

  • oh my god!!! I haven't heard this in 20 years!!! Thank you for posting this: )

  • I like the first vocalist better. Anyway, what genre would this song be?

  • First one, I would venture to say its, "funk."

  • I love this so much. Wow. I haven't heard this in forever.

  • Mr. S will be played by Alfonso Ribeiro (aka Carlton Banks).

  • this is just super!

  • I love Mr. S song! They should play it in a classic rock radio station.

  • I used to live in STL.... I moved there after The Letter people were on television... an old friends father was the voice of Mr.S

  • That's cool...He was a star in my Kindergarten class in Ohio back in 1984. We watched The Letter People everyday after our recess and snack time. Good old PBS teaching the kids to read.

  • please tell me you went to Maple Elementary school in Chardon, Ohio

  • Comment removed

  • when we saw this one, we'd try our damnd'est to emulate the zoom effect with the trumpets by lunging foreward, face to face...didn't realize at that age that it was just the zoom of the camera, but we practiced it all day! "bu-buh bi-bi-bi-bi-bi-BAAH!"

  • lol!!! We did the same thing...the horns were funky and the bass.

  • wow this brings back so many memories it is not even funny I remember that every week we would have to try and find the letter people blow ups that our teacher had hidden it was so fun, I hate that my kids won't get to use the letter people to learn their letters, We even had a letter people parade one day of course like every body I was mr s yes I know I am a girl but he was a superhero he was the best thanks for posting this

  • Mr.S and Mr.M r the Best.

  • YESSSSSS!!! LOL! LOVE IT! MISS IT!!

  • How funky! Love it!

  • i effffffin love mr. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • u know, i think this was everyone's favorite song. FUNKY!!! lol

  • Kindergarten is a German term carried over from the 1800s....kinder means child....and you're 33 and can't spell "barely"? The letter people are ashamed of you!

  • My mistake...its Kindergarten AND to correct you my friend I'm 29 not 33. Your statement contains bad punctuation also...ha!!! ha!!

  • This is almost freaky. A friend sent this to me. I hadn't thought about this since kindergarden and I'm 33 right now. Barley remember it. (Where does the word kindergarden come from anyway..........kinder garden ???)

  • OMFG! i was Ms. A too!!

and this was my favorite song.

This brings back so many amazing memories....

    kindergarten was amazing

  • I friggin loved this show in kindergarten!!! We had to come to school as letter people too, I was Ms. A and we played "The Catching Game" and when I got happy "Aaaaa-CHOO"!! LoL

  • its the darndest thing....

we did the same thing in kindergarten, and i came as Ms. A.

i kid you not, i had the green afro puffs and everything

  • When I was in Kindergarten, we learned our letters with this show. We all had to dress up as a letter person one day....I was Mr. S!

  • I FOUND IT I FOUND IT I FOUND IT!! After 23 years, I finally found it!! Mr. S!! Thank you so much for posting this. Means so much!!

  • This would make a great punk band name, donchathik? With this as their encore song!!!

  • AWW YEAH BABY!!!...we watched this EVERYDAY in preschool and Kindergarten back in the 70s...Mr. S and his Super Socks song was my favorite.

  • I watched this in 1984 when I was in Kindergarden...Classic educational tv!!!. I didn't always have cable either...lol!!

  • That was when I was in Kindergarten- 1984!

  • this was added on my birthday last year XD

  • Ha, takes me back to kindergarden, 1972. Central School, Stockton Springs Maine. We had the school set complete with inflatable Letter People. My fav's were Mr. S, T & M,,, NO.... not S&M... Ha...!

  • I grew up on this show....I just realized that Super Socks sounds like the "Chocolate Rain" dude. lol

  • lol i used to sing this song ALL the time in kindergarten. Oh man this is classic.

  • I always laugh whenever Mr. S flew around in the sky and the camera keep zooming back and forth into his face.

  • The original tune is better. The puppet version has a frog in his throat - sings like Ray Romano. Thanks for including both. . .

  • anyone in their 30s is messed up b/c they made us watch this when we were little!

  • lol

  • man, MAN!!! IT'S LIKE I'M IN KINDERGARTEN AGAIN, AT MAPLE SCHOOL WITH MS. MILLS SITTING NEXT TO LISA JOHNS AND ALFREDO MACIAS AND MIKE GONZALES. MS. MILLS AND THE TEACHER'S AIDE USED TO PLAY THE LETTER MEN FOR US RIGHT BEFORE NAPTIME. FOR REAL THOUGH, I REMEMBER TAKING A NAP AND I DIDN'T WAKE UP. I'M STILL ASLEEP RIGHT NOW AND THIS SONG IS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND!!! WAKE ME UP I WANNA GO BACK TO MAPLE!!!!

  • Mr. S was cool. I liked to slide on the floor in my super socks.

  • memooooorieeeees!

is there a chance to get a that tune in mp3?

it sure beats the crap that's out there right now!

  • For some ungodly reason, as I was walking down the hall at work, I began singing this song. God this brings back some demented memories

  • Johnnylaw I am totally with you on that one. I started singing it front of my g/f for no reason and she was like um what are you singing? Thats when it hit me and I was like thank you alphabet people for teaching me the alphabet. I love mr. s.

  • I remember watching The Letter People when it aired on the PBS stations back in the 70s. I had forgotten how cool it was (and still is)! It just goes to prove that you need a ton of computerized gadgetry to make a neat TV show. The Mr. S and Mr. M songs are my favorites.

  • Mr. S sounds a lot like Bert from Sesame Street lol

  • OMF, this song was the shit in kindergarten!!!

    this one and mr. c

i would always beg my teacher to play it.

  • 4:51

Wow, that is eerily Flaming Lips-like.

  • i loved this in preschool and then i moved and none of the kids had ever heard of it

  • I made Super Sox for Mr. S in 1972. He was our favorite.

  • That beat is on point.

  • Anyone notice the opening to his "Super Box" is shaped like "pie"?

  • I didn't notice that but I did notice Mr. S looks like an amputee lol

  • MR S to the rescue they cry..........lol this was the shit

  • Sometimes no one plays with me

    No one at all

So I just play all by myself

Go to my secret box... :)

  • Mr. S would kick Superman's ass.

  • o? how?

  • Ahhhhhh! No wonder I thought the show's song was different from the one I knew. The classroom version is better than the original though. The puppet version of Mr. S sounds stupid.

  • OMG! I learned my alphabets with these. Thanks for uploading!

  • lmfao Mr. S owns all =]

  • Did anyone else notice his right hand acts drunk at the beginning of this video? I remember as a kid I always noticed the crappy job they did at editing Mr. S flying (this was one of the favourite episodes of my class, so the teacher let us watch it all the time), and I always pointed it out, but nobody else believed me...

  • The version used for the show was good, but I think the original recording was more suiting for the show. Mr. D's voice in the show was definitely more suiting for the puppet (even though Mr. D's original voice is better). Not that the one in the show is bad, but I think the original voice would be better for both the show and song in general.

  • I do prefer the sound of the original singer's voice, but I have to say the voice they used on the show worked well, too. I used to not like his voice on the show when I was a little kid (I found it kind of hard to understand sometimes), but now I think it sounds more like a stereotypical superhero's voice.

  • His eyes were like fireballs, fearfully blazing.

He gave a great yawn, and his SOCKS were amazing!

  • That is the greatest thing I've read all day.

I wonder who would win in a fight between Mr. S and the Rumpus Cat...

  • Mr. S and the Rumpus Cat would probably call a truce. I always envisioned Mr. S making a Rumpus Cat-style startrap entrance if the Letter People ever became a Broadway entity, complete with goggles that had lighted rims.

  • who is Rumpus Cat?

  • MR. S ROCKS!

  • SockCave lmao

  • I actually ran camera on this episode back in the 1970s. Great to see it again.

  • That is so amazing! I'm 27 now and I grew up on this. Thanks!

  • right on brother. 1981!

  • Mr. S was off the chain with that song!
