how did you get to speed up the video?

You can use Windows Movie Maker

You should have it if you have Windows XP or Vista

1) right-click on the video clip you want to speed up

2) Then choose the option 'Video Effects'

3) Go down the list of 'Available effects' by scrolling down until you see 'Speed Up, Double'

4) Click on 'Speed Up, Double' then click 'Add' then click 'Ok'

and there you have it

your video clip will be speeded up now

and this is also how you can add other effects too by using the same procedure
