A flag in your hand will make crossing streets safer? The safety campaings are getting more and more stupid.
Road safety is important, but the more morons who try to fill it with their stupidity the less effective it becomes.

The cars were screaching to a stop because the driver was failing to read the road properly. We have crossings like that in the UK and most drivers have no problem with anticipating pedestrians wishing to cross.
I find it a little sickening that such a scheme exists.
