What a complete tube Michie is. Stirring stuff in this video. 2 years later, he backs Margaret Curren in the Glasgow N.E. by election, and claims independence would be a bad thing. What changed John? How did you go from this stuff, to arguing Scotland's "Too wee, too weak, too poor"? Do you have any firm beliefs?
He's a political whore and will say whatever his current paymaster tells him to. Moreover, who cares what he thinks? No credibility whatsoever.
We cannot forget who we are and where we came from and how hard our ancestors struggled and overcome obstacles and challenges through life! So we must show our respect and honour them all and be united under our flag when our nation of the kingdom of alba was at its peak of our culture by flying the flag of st andrews the saltire and not a union jack a symbol of Colonialism
I don't think that the Scots will vote for independence. If anything I think it will be us South of the border here in England that will demand an independent England.
@RobW581 Trust me, a lot of us in Scotland would love for the good citizenry of England to demand English independence - but I think we know that we'll all be long dead before that ever happens.
I agree totaly , we need a voice in the EU . are fishing, farming and alot of other industrys all gets sold out for whats good for england , england always comes first at westminster that is not fair . there are other countrys with a smaller number of people that have there say . We need to get out of this u.k and get in to the EU where it counts.
This guy is so cheesy. Harnessing wind and waves. Aye, right. He's right about the brain drain, and it seems like it's going to get worse with the banking sector crippled in ediburgh now.
Excuse my ignorance, but why are so many people against the Iraq war? I mean, how many hundreds of thousands of Kurds did we save from death by going to war? Also, this argument that we went to war for oil is ridiculous; there are numerous other places we can get oil. Besides, Blair/Bush, etc., could have just asked Saddam Hussain to buy the oil if they wanted it that bad.
Well, in the sense that easily maleable people spending eight years being indoctrinated with marxist thought, ultimately become experts on marxist thought, then yes, you're correct.
Being experts on an ignorant and damaging ideology only makes them retarded, though.
@ToulacAxeHand I agree , the was in Iraq was totaly pointles and a waste of life , and us in scotland didnt get a say yet are boys are fighting and dieing
Light, around a million Iraqis have died as a result of the coalition invasion of Iraq in 2003. Those killed under Saddam don't come anything near that number.

I can't wait for Independence, and the day we English stop have to stop looking after PARASITIC scotland & the even more PARASITIC wales who are both currently a drain on England. Furthermore I want to see your pathetic economies flounder in the current economic crisis when you're all on your own.
Given that England has a bigger deficit than Scotland (which is in surplus) and the United Kingdom has a rocketing debt and having to borrow money on the international capital markets - does that not mean that England is actually the parasite?
What frightening rubbish. The only thing I agree with was about the War. Blair did that coz he is really against The Union and wanted to break this country and drag it through the mud.Plus he wanted Iraq's oil.Plus his version of Catholocism required a crusade against Islam;(remember he said God told him to do it.)
Ironically Blair is Scottish, but this bloke blames the union with England. European city indeed.Say that with doodlebugs flying over.I come from Kent yet I am not European.
Saying other Britons are foreign is the sort of thing you might say to tease someone. It is not true of course. You say we are both European, despite the fact you live a long way from the continent. Europeans though would regard us as both British, which we are.
John Michie has a great arguement and I am English but I would rather be in Scotland if they ever became Independent that be stuck with a Tory government, Tony Blair has done alot of damage and it is hard for Labour supporters, John Michie is one too.

The UKs opt outs have protected Scottish laws and certain powers already divolved to the Scottish parliament aswell. You want to give up on the union and just join a bigger union which will ignore you even more.
At the moment Scotland is part of the UK the second biggest net contributor to the EU budget and one of the 3 major EU powers. Scotland alone will just be one of dozens of countries begging for money from the richer and more powerful member states.
scotland would be rather prosperous according to economists, a net exporter of oil and gas, second in europe only to norway and a hub for renewal ebergy, described as the green saudi arabia of europe.

According to SOME economists. Ofcourse Scotland would survive if independent, i have never suggested it would grind to a halt and vanish the morning after leaving the union.
Oil has halved in the past 2 months, that means a large part of Scotlands future economic success has been washed away with a general trend. Oil and gas will also not last forever. Norway which has ALOT more oil than Scotland (UK) has seen its production reduced over the past few years aswell
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You have to take into account the amount of spending by the Scottish government and understand that oil revenues which has only been about 10 billion a year will not pay for everything.
Creating a new country in the 21st century is going to cost alot of money, and i dont see why the people of the UK should pick up the tab for that new country, when its only the people of Scotland who will of voted for it. The costs of splitting up this union must be paid for by Scotlands share of UK wealth.

Many people in England were against this war from the start aswell. Lets not forget Tony Blair had some scottish roots aswell, he was even born in Scotland. The one man who could of stopped Tony blair was Gordon Brown who is Scottish.

Its ashame John Michie got lots of his money working on UK wide media which gets most of its money from England. If hes so against the union i hope he returns the money.
It was ok for Scotland to be part of the union that last for 300 years when it was benefiting, but now it could be ok alone within the European union its ok to just walk away.. How loyal.
Scotland is stronger within the EU as part of the Uk than it would be alone, AS part of the UK its a major EU player.. Scotland alone isnt
Incorrect, as is we have no direct say in the EU and we are sold out regularly by Westminster to benefit the South East.

In the UK we have none of these! We're a second though and a bargaining chip for Westminster.

As part of the UK we get many opt outs which other smaller european countries are not given. They simply get bullied by France and Germany into supporting something.. Scotland will be like that if it wants to get some money from the EU. Those countries also wont be happy because the UK will suddenly be paying less into the union budget
Other european countries wont be happy because they face seperatists groups aswell wanting to destroy their countries. Thats IF we choose to let Scotland join
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think we will let you join but its within our power to block Scotland joining international organisations. Greece prevented a country from joining the EU and NATO simply because it didnt like its name. :)
Ofcourse the funny thing is the SNP often say they want to be like Norway and Ireland, but ones in the EU and one isnt. Norway profits so much from its oil because they remain out of the EU and dont have to obey strict competition and anti state ownership laws.
