  • Went to see Love & Rockets open for Siouxsie and the Banshees at the Arlington Theater (Santa Barbara) in1986. At 16, that was an impressive concert, loved every minute.

The LP "Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven" came into my hands the previous year. Having followed Bauhaus and especially Tones on Tail music, the names of the band members told me "buy this and listen."

If there was ever an album that deeply influence me, definitely this one. Dedicated to my friend Jeanne Marie Barker 1970-87.

  • That's a great picture for this...question everything!

  • Question Everything? Why?

  • such a great music !

  • This song is helping pass the time while my love is out of town:(

  • Incredible

  • fucking AWESOME

  • this song gave me the courage to break up my bad relationship. i made two survival compilation cds one titled "this is for when you feel nothing" and "this is for when you feel something". music like this has saved my life.

  • for when you feel happy again

  • Definitely in my top 5 of the 80s. I was pretty much addicted to this song when it came out and I wasn't even goth. :) It was like living a John Hughes movie. Especially after a fight or break-up with your girlfriend or just a bad day in high school.

  • why is this channel attached to Dutchsense?

  • @BigsbyDude It's NOT. A person can post any of their favorites look to the right hand side when you click on the open arrow. It's just music dude.

  • @BigsbyDude He loves satellites and good music!

  • Los amo.

  • I just heard this song on KRCL 90.9 here in Utah (you can listen online just google them ;D) I love this song! :D

  • They are so avant-garde that compared with bands today they still look avant-garde.

  • Genius, absolute genius.

  • yes

  • Best L&R´s song!!! wallkman & tdk memories!!

  • Everyone should check out the video for Reptile by Nine Inch Nails w/ Bauhaus. They cover this song at the end of it, it's spectacular

  • Cheers me up.

  • Stuck in the past, and loving it. Saw them live more times than I can remember, but the first was when they opened for Siouxsie in L.A. in support of this album. Been my favorite ever since, and it all started with this tune.

  • Granate !!

  • One of the classic songs from the 80s, pretty much unknown and under rated.

  • My mother just died of cancer...and this song really helps. :) God bless Daniel Ash!

  • @subtotal51 so sorry about your mom..... i hope your doing o.k.

  • @RomanVapors Thanks alot! Yes...I'm doing ok. :)

  • @subtotal51 (Sorry for the late reply) i'm so sorry. i couldnt imagine that happening to me... i hope your doing alright! prayers always ;) <333 XXX

  • @MCRhasAFireInside

Thank you for your kind words. We are doing pretty good now. :)

  • @subtotal51 you are very welcome! <333

  • I was there. The song is haunted, but we were too. I danced to this so often at Dominoes and Nuts and Bolts in Toronto. It basically says what I felt. I'm still haunted by that time.

  • @dominoesnowdutch - I grew up in Buffalo, N.Y. and spent quite a few weekends at Dominoes. The gool old days!!!

  • Best Love and Rockets song of all-time...... thanks to Art of Darkness Comp.

  • Totally awesome! :)

  • i think the bass has something to do with it.. (david j)

  • I don't know why I'm so into this band.. something indescribable.. the songs are fairly average, why do i own ALL their albums (and tones on tail as well)? It's almost like I like the idea of them more than anything else.. but there must be some reason i have it all.... mystique..

  • @basehead617 songs arent average. listen again. well, their later stuff is average, yes, you are right. first 2 albums are great. go back from there to Tones and Bauhaus. Nothing wrong with any of it.

  • when I was a kid, I thought they were saying "We're the men in drag" :p

  • I rather like it actually for the excitement....

  • more like the deplorable condition of a public utility.

  • I love the music. Is that Love and Rockets 7th Dream of Teenage Heaven?

  • @MentalTeleprosy Yes, it is :)

  • @Cabral24101972 Yea. I have that CD. I put it in when the minutes drag. :-)

  • @MentalTeleprosy None other..

  • This brings back some psychedelic memories lol.....very underrated band.

  • @repelghosts me too

  • and this is for a bright new sky...I love Love and Rockets for carrying me through my 80's teenage angst

  • This band and this song certainly left an impression on me. I remember my brother and i purchasing one of their CDs (with this song) and my brother and I listened to that love and rockets CD for almost two days straight on the return home from a road trip. We drove home in an old and tired Toyota truck...I tell you, those minutes dragged- but the music was great!

  • Awesome song, one of L&R's best. I am glad it wasn't on commercial radio. I want this song to go on for ever sometimes....Happy Halloween, happy listeners. Dedicated to Stacey D Larsen CR, BC Canada

    Hard Hugs,

  • Love the Love and Rockets....truly.

  • driving through a Colorado snowstorm back in the 80's - wondering if I would survive...and this is for when you feel something. I found a snowplow to follow home...when the minutes drag...way cool - wish I could do it again

  • @dirkwearsws

Dude was I riding with you that night?

  • Well I'm drenched now. Brandy?

  • Does anyone know if this was ever used in a soundtrack? I think it was but can't remember which film....

  • @sundayegirl 'she's having a baby'. it came out in 1988. it starred kevin bacon, elizabeth something or other, and alec baldwin.

  • @sundayegirl it was also in "Blood & Chocolate", but it was the Collide (better) version.

  • Mmmmmm...suddenly my crazy, wonderful youth comes crashing back. How many times did I dance to this at some alt club in the 80s or 90s? Or blasted it from my tape player in my Yogo driving way faster than a Yugo should have been driven, across SR 60 through central FL. LOVE IT.

  • L & R's Masterpiece! This song didn't get a lot of airplay here in LA on KROQ back in the day, but when it did, people were asking, whoa, what song is that?

  • @Lalo3001 Agreed! It is a masterpiece!

  • Always a great track, thank you!

  • Love and Rockets is one of the only bands from my younger and dumber years that I still can listen to. These guys are definitely one of the greatest ever....

  • Eve

  • Lived it...was there in Toronto,Canada thanz for this,

    hard hugs,

    Gemma Inc.

  • nice!

  • I'd also suggest to keep in touch with the investigation.

  • Your not going to "build" anything at ground zero. Your going to die.

  • @Ypipable ..well if your going to stand there i suggest you take a warm sweater..and maybe an umbrella.

  • @LRon2009 Nonsense.

  • @Ypipable .quite.

  • Copy that.. too many times I pull this one out of my Fragmented hard drive of a mind.. and sing it inside and out. . Love and rockets forever.

  • @sidewalkart. I wish I had a fragmented hard drive.

  • Two cracking songs fused together to create a classic. Nothing more, nothing less. Sheer genius.

  • @deansgatedora two songs fused? explain :)

  • Does anyone have a tab or the chords to this song? I can't find them anywhere.

  • @Razadazledazle It starts with F and C chords, then moves on to incorporate G and E. It's been a while, but I think there is an A chord in the progression in the second half of the song.

  • @BerkeleyGoddess What do you mean by nobody ? Bearing in mind it was created the same year as the state of Israel.

  • What is now important and truly is important is the red spot on the dogs leg ,the alternating looseness/tightness of my daughters bowels and how I can raise enough money to get out of this bi-polar dump of a country . I still like music and the weather is nice out

  • The word that would describe this feeling would be nostalgia. In the 24 years since I last listened to these boys I've discovered most of the things that I thought were important weren't and Iwould have been wiser paying more attention to things other than music ,trying to get laid , drink and drugs and generaly beening anangry young man.I've been married stabbed in the head and divorced[same woman],been the stage manager of a West End music venue, toured Europe 3 times with a rolling stone

  • Such a beautiful song!!! OMG how can you not love it... I grew up with this song, and I hope my children will listen to this song... One of a kind.

  • @1906whitesox I agree, I'm 37 and have a 14 year old. I can only hope he has an *appreciation* for his parents music like I did.

  • absolutely great....gorgious song!!!!!!

  • this was my soundtrack in college. this, the cure, the smiths, concrete blonde, iggy pop. i never did dye my hair black though.

  • i agree,---but dont forget kundalini express!!!

  • WHY IS THIS SONG SO INCREDIBLE

  • Matches the architecture...I like it.

  • One of the best songs ever created. I first heard it 15 years ago. How so many of us allowed the lyrics and melody to seep into our love sick hearts. I agree with jonathan7176's comment- rejoice!

  • It is prayer

  • God, this tore me apart 20 years ago. Now, I can listen and rejoice in it.

  • @jonathan7176 I totally agree! Definitely their best track ever. Brings me back to a difficult time.

  • I heard this tape playing in a record store, back in 1988/89. I had never heard of Love and Rockets before that day. I bought The Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven completely based on what I had heard there in that store, and listened to it for most of the next 10 years. Amazing stuff.

  • Where is the picture in the background from?

  • This is a pretty great album. I remember listening to it on cassette in my walkman for hours on end...Ahh...Sony Walkmans.... This and Earth Sun Moon are really special.

  • when the minutes daraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggg

Live alone or be part of us..........

  • any one in central London I think we have a need to catch up...

  • This song...I try to run & listen to this & I cannot. I have to go with this, boy can I twirl around.

  • a guy i had a huge crush on dedicated this song to me back in grade 12... it wasn't until i was in university that i finally figured out what the words were, and i was overcome...

  • when he says when the minutes drag, as a musician, I think of recording studios in the 80's and huxley's time must have a stop

  • actually, forget it, screw AYM .. he kept me haunted long enough, snaky bastard. ...LOL ;)

  • I used to end my weekly radio show, titled, 180minutes, with this and the albums following song, Saudade. It is truly amazing how a songs meaning can change after so many years of life experience and heart break.

I'll never forget the many corridors and seemingly endless flights of stairs at Centenary College from the station to the parking lot as i carried my 13 crates of records back to my car while these songs played from the stations speakers. This was back in 1988 or 89.

  • @sternedwards and now you could have all 13 crates on a single ipod and stash it in your pants pocket... how things have changed....

  • @mark71db @mark71db

Right, Mark7 db! Things certainly have changed. I don't miss heavy crates of albums or dusty and broken CD jewel cases, but the quality of MP3's kinda blows. It will be nice when a higher standard is adopted for digital music files and the iPod.

  • Again, to A.Y.M.

  • Still a great Dead lover's song!

  • I totally agree, very fitting.

  • It's always amazing when you find some artist's work who has expressed exactly what you've been trying to say... Balm for the soul.

  • Quite possibly Love & Rockets greatest song ever. Certainly one of the most incredible songs of the 1980s. I love to pull out the acoustic and strum along with this one. God I love this band.

  • @LightningPeak how about Saudade? :) Why choose? Let's just agree this is their best album.

  • I remember staying up all night with my best friend listening to this album, and specifically, this song, over and over again we listened while his dad, a few hundred feet below us, climbed in his car and drove to work, and we, up all night, were haunted by the passing time and "surrealness" of that morning...Oh how splendid when those youthful minutes drag. How I am haunted today.

  • I had a suckie time with this song....many years ago..but thank god it was many years ago....so now I can enjoy this song again in all its glory and beauty..sick how some people can destroy a beautiful song for you....

  • @jeannegrob

We all know when a song carries a harsh memory. But it's amazing when you can love that song again without the pain. I think it's one of the most special things to real music lovers. And this song deserves a lot of passion, it's incredible.

  • @jeannegrob YOU SOUND REALLY FUCKED UP!

  • @jeannegrob goes both ways. the first time I pick up an old song and have a rush of nostalgia of pleasant memories from 25 years ago, then listen to it a few too many times, now the memories arent as strong... :/

  • Haunted. Boo!

  • ah music

  • LLLLLLLOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEE this song !!!!

i wish L&R would reunite....the last bauhaus cd was a big steaming pile of shit.

  • Yes I let the hog loose for the first time in the woods on this tune... via cassette.

  • Best Love and Rockets song. Ever.

  • Could you imagine if Trent Reznor had covered this?

  • I would love to hear Trent Reznor cover this song, I bet he's into love and rockets

  • He DID!! Him and Peter Murphy sing part of this song at the end of a live performance of "Reptile". It's bad ass. Just search for "Peter Murphy" and "Reptile".

  • Well, that sums up all my love affairs. Was he one of them?

  • always makes me think of my first love who use to write the most beautiful poems for me, till I found out they were from Nick Cave's ballads, anyway still brings back good memories....

  • great tune. love this band, along with many other 80s stuff. Great flashbacks.

  • YOU HAD THE BEST REPLY. COOL TUNE.

  • seventh dream of a teenage heaven is a wonderful album/cd. very few i pass over, and the ones i like, i LOVE. this song always gets me, it's ALL ABOUT THE 2ND PART, when the minutes drag, that electric battery acid sound is amazing, tripped out

  • remembering my college year in the 80s, u.f. (mfp/the bar).

  • Nezor, gracias... you got the tune.... cheers!

  • one of the best songs ever!

  • This is the song that turned my on to Love and Rockets in the mid-80s. They used to play it on KROQ late at night.

  • I used to hear it on KROQ too, I never got why it wasn't part of the regular daytime rotation, I heard it first on a movie called "she's having a baby"

  • my favorite cd of theirs

  • heard this tune for the first time 3 weeks ago!! i live in canada now having moved from london england 4 years ago..i'm 39 years old and can't believe this one slipped by me.......amazing song,,,it blows me away!!

  • Where are you in Canada? My old haunts? I left Canada for Holland

  • Gemma we met Trent Reznor after the evenings program ,what a f--ing night we were all so young back then...email me luv...repel those ghosts babe!

  • I saw L&R at Wolfgang's in San Francisco about 1986, a club that has since burned down. Small, under 200 people in attendance. The band used a lot of prerecorded sound effects. The guitar was just, I don't know how to explain, smashing the chords violently, with a lot of fuzz and feedback. Goth crowd. Brilliant though flawed. I like that, live Art is not Perfect. I miss those days, they will never return although new ideas will emerge. Bauhaus turned pop with a psychedelic aspect.

  • Love and Rockets reminding you to look both ways.

  • such amazing fun to see this band live. The whole audience singing along and dancing to everything - God i miss them..

  • I can't express my love for Love and Rockets, they bring back just the most amazing memories. Thanks for uploading this.

  • 5+1

  • At approx 4:31 is when the overhead light board would just fdae in to the audience...saying LOVE AND ROCKETS' of course....a few gals jumped the stage 'round this time...and hauled away by the ShowCo staff.....what an evening..Thanks again,we have just been sitting here reminicing..pardon any spelling erros...we think at our age it will be overlooked..

    Cheers, fron beautiful Toronto,Canada!

  • I recal when this 1st aired...then seeing them live 3 times.or so...Thanks for the mems!

    Dr.Jeff

  • like maybe haunted is like having it for someone, so alive like being with someone, and sad and beautiful world a bitter requiem

  • so alive- don't know what color your eyes are bsby, but your hair is long and brown

haunted- haunted by your eyes haunted by your hair

sad and beautiful world- she got long long hair and blue eyes shining.

same girl even? definite similar lyrical themes abound and of course they are differant keys, but they all ring together harmonically in their melodic progression of notes- its totally obvious, are you just trying to waste my time?

  • When we were in high school we would eat boxes of marazine and drink robotussin dm, and drive around the lake listening to this album, it would seem like days and days, strange I still remember it, when everyone would say we were wasting our minds away, I guess its all personal perception.

  • wow. we used to do stupid RoBo too! I still hate cherry flavor, to this day

  • one of goths best songs....

  • then the other ones were

  • this song is harmonicly and lyrically a reprise of so alive and sad and beautiful world...this makes it 10X as powerful

  • A reprise? This song was released on their first album, four years before their fourth album, which So Alive was on.

  • "So Alive" and "Haunted" have nothing in common harmonically or lyrically. They're in different keys and have a completely different structures. Their lyrical themes are completely dissimilar. The only thing they have in common is that they are played by the same three people, and they are both great songs. In the interest of full disclosure: I've played the guitar since 1983, have played in many bands and recorded CDs of my original songs. I know of what I speak.

  • I don't the President hypnotized anybody.

music, good music at least should be trance inducing. i like it better as I am permanetly in a trance it sounds better that way, you can't appreciate this or any other music any other way than to be in a trance from listening to good music in the first place

  • i just realized that love and rockets used street hypnosis techniques in their lyrics like obama did in his campaign speeches.

  • I am so gonna ask you to explain that realization of yours.

  • Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven, Express, Earth Sun Moon. Three of the best albums ever. They went pear shaped after that.

  • darn tootin. but i can live happily knowing these three exist cant you?

  • Yup many people may not agree but Love and Rockets were sooo much more awesome than Bauhaus!
