  • That was an insane crash. No hans device there. shit that would of hurt

  • @MrPorsche91730 I think he actually had the HANS device

  • @Bryan2799 I dont know man, his head looked like it almost seprated from his body

  • That had to have some foward g's.

  • look at his head at 0:01

  • the physics in this game suck...

  • Gaara Detected.

  • DRIVEN!!!!!!!

  • The G-forces involved would be immense.

  • Holy shit he is so lucky! That was a heavy frontal impact, and I'm not sure if the HANS device was mandatory at this time or not.

Even the cockpit headrest surround comes off of the car!

  • @Ferrariman601 it my knowledge it had just become mandatory a couple races bofore this crash.

  • And people say Driven is unrealistic..

  • Servia was shot out of a CANYON

  • Real world bugs, codemasters better fix that.

  • what a fucking dive! wow!

  • wow

  • If he somehow kept going, he just won, no matter what.

  • That looks like fun!!!

  • it's that sand robot from transformers!!!!

  • whats weird about it? his nose hit the sand, he flipped, are you retarted?

  • track bug, please release fix :D

  • WHOA!!

  • Does anyone know the crash where the car WENT STRAIGHT in the corkscrew? I remember so well the car hitting the wall DEAD ON....

The blast was crazy, think was indycar also.

  • @ikelleners

    I think that was Rodriguez R.I.P :( /watch?v=19Fl1e79O1Y&feature=related

  • @Pali1984 Yes Laguna Sega

  • Comment removed

  • Praise the HANS device on that one.

  • lawn dart

  • gotta watch those land mines around laguna seca

  • @thegreatz12345 U mde my dayxD

  • pole voltting is his sport not racing

  • I'd give that a 10/10

  • IIIIsboro che crosta!

  • That must have hurt his goonies

  • he actually hit a land mine

  • I was there when it happened! At first I didn't know what to think, but hell, it was incredible I saw that!

  • If this were a video game, I'd call bullshit physics, but it;s real life, so....

  • OMG... that impact must have been so rough... it completely stoped the forward momentum :O

  • 0:12 min not really save when the HANS system jumps out of the car

  • @maurizio864 It is not HANS

  • @DiazMX i am sure to see the hans system (Head And Neck Support) flying out of the car

  • @DiazMX It's just an elastic element of cockpit. Type in search: "Driver Safety in Formula One" and look 2 57....

  • i hope HANS was mandatory back then..

  • @steflotti105 It wasnt invented back then

  • @teamphat how did he manage to survive this then? lol the force of hittin the ground musta ripped his head off lol

  • glitch!!

  • Good news is my man Servia has a ride this year with newman/hass in the indycar series!!

  • do a barrel roll!

  • that would fucking hurt.

  • I remember watching this race live and I couldn't believe how it nosed dived like that without killing Servia, glad he survived

  • this was 2001, I was at this race. It was an awesome crash to watch!

  • Is the pilots head still attached to his body ? Waooo what a front impact...plus the helmet weight..!! Hard to handle...poor neck..

  • Comment removed

  • That's the point when in a video game you would jump up from your seat, yelling: "Ah, come on! That's so unrealistic!"

  • @EPR89 Lmao!

  • hydraulic suspensions. lol

  • Landmine? xD

  • WOW! this crash demonstrates the sheer strength of the chassis!

  • This right here is basically what happened to Gilles Villeneuve, except at much higher speed.

  • now thats what ı call a "G" force when it hit the ground.

  • brings me back a lot of memorys

  • yellow

  • I think he set a new world record for "World's Highest Automotive Pole Vault." XD

  • Well, he entered for the list of those few ones who survived a "plane crash" . . .

  • looks like it exploded on a land mine.

  • He's lucky he didn't break his neck in that crash.

  • My god that first impact with the gravel must have caused some serious pain...

  • Pole vaulting!!! WOOOOO

  • You got, like, 3 feet of air that time.

  • @HokkaidoTruant 3 feet of air ? The nose was most likely more than 10 feet off the ground, learn your heights.

  • @Love2spooge1226 Maybe you should check whether it was a reference to something before becoming a keyboard crusader... ;)

  • considering the cars are 15ft long and at 0:05 there was around a car length between the ground and the back wheels, the nose was easily over 25 ft off the ground at one point, must've been scary.

  • WOW!

  • GOriol GO!

  • can you imagine the forces into your body?

  • It was in 2001.

  • This is pain in the nuts.

  • It's so funny cuz he flew then the annoncer laughed see look 0:08

  • go travis, nice frontflip!!...

  • that is what happens if you dont learn physics

  • oriol got upps

  • look like an I.E.D planted on the track...

  • @glang67 LOL I was gonna say land mine but you beat me to it

  • @xcruzrr6 well thats just the same...bottom line is..it was an awesome crash....no explosion though but still awesome

  • ouch watch his head

  • hes probably have to push his brains back up his nose. 180 to 0 in 5 inches

  • Oopsie...lucky chap. But that was a nice crash test for the nose cone. :D

  • that was intense!!!

  • i woz there wen tht happned it lukd terrible

  • @PhilipCopleySt

    go back to school

  • Do you know what really looks terrible? How you write!

  • This is exhibit 'A' in the "why we use a HANS device" book of motoring. Ouch!

  • ridiculous g-forces there

  • you see his head jerk forward damn

  • That's a nasty looking impact, but easily explainable - sand really, REALLY grabs onto your car, so it's great for slowing cars down.

  • untill you hit it nose first, then it destroys you

  • That reminds me of the fatal accident that Gonzalo Rodriguez caused 10 years ago.

  • I just watched that video and your right. The nose pitched into the sand for Gonzalo and sent him flying.

Have they changed this soft sand now? or does it remain the same

  • In '99, Rodriguez had this fatal as I mentioned before and this one was Oriol Servia's accident. Exactly the same thing.

  • @ayrtonsenna1960

    watch again.

  • no, its still there:(

  • @Barcode711 or if you get sideways then it flips you... Most F1 tracks have concrete run off areas now because of how dangerous grass, sand or gravel runoff areas really are.

  • that'll knock the wind outta yer sails

  • The best name in racing.

Except for Will Power, I guess. But definitely better than Scott Speed.

  • Holy WTF?

  • awesome!

  • jacknife or sumthing there is a term for this kind of crash

  • he probliy was saying i beleave i can fly!

  • He was probably saying Shiiiiiiit...

  • @riflelord2 why?

  • @riflelord2 you were probably thinking you wish you could spell!

  • @xelvemagicx when your flying threw the sky spelling is nothing to worry about just remembering who you are is

  • @riflelord2 retarded comment again, even though you have now learnt to spell you still dont understand grammar... shame

  • @xelvemagicx Neither do you. "Even though you have now learnt to spell," starts with a comer and as the sentence is not fragmented without it, it must end in a comer. You didn't use a capital letter at the start and "...." isn't punctuation.

  • @1234567890so who are you? go fuck yourself

  • @xelvemagicx "Who are you?" Capital letter required. To fuck myself would be impossible, your mother however is an easy women to fuck. Don't correct other people when you're wrong yourself and then don't get angry when someone who can, teaches you. Don't be a keyboard warrior, we all know your life sucks.

  • @1234567890so capital letter not required, its fucking youtube you jumped up cunt, youve just jumped up on my comment when you werent needed twat, my mums in hospital so cheers for that you twat and you need to get a life all i said was go fuck yourself you have to be actually harsh you twat

  • @xelvemagicx You've and weren't for starters. You started being a knob and now someone has cut your keyboard warrior crusade you're crying, LOL.

  • @1234567890so Well dealt with lol.

  • @riflelord2 more like I believe imma die!

  • Wow, that must've been scary.

  • a 10 for flare but a 8 for form

  • oh yeah? i wanna see you if you can even even handle an F1 in daytona! goin' at least 200 MPH. i say you'll probably crash on the first turn!

  • Do you mean that to Woodbear himself or just talking about F1 cars in general?

  • Retarded? no. but my comment was for woodbearlikeskids. why call me a retard?

  • Wiplash?

  • and gilles had much bigger speed there

  • HANS is the object... if you mean on it...

  • thats what gilles villenueves crash might have looked like?

  • Yes, it was similar. Except for the fact that Oriol stayed in the car, whereas Gilles was thrown out of the car when it cartwheeled.

  • thanks to 20 years of improvements in safety, OS survived whereas GV possibly broke his neck after the first frontal impact which has been widely speculated. 1 thing i was suprised about was the object (ive forgotten the name) which fits just behind the drivers head came off either on monocoque deformity or impact, it shouldnt happen considering the strength nowadays due to CF

  • Nah Gilles was driving at a higher speed and there was grass next to track, meaning it didnt really slowed down his vehicle. Eventually his car got completely destroyed and he was sent into the air, landing on the other side of the track while his car was still back at the other side.

  • there's a posibility he would get hurt.He gets dizzy,the first impact(not much),and the landing

  • i was at that race

  • Dude, no joke, if I was in Servia's position when this happened, I think I would have soiled myself.

  • I always thought Roberto Moreno had a crash like that at Laguna Seca in the 90's.

  • Head on collision with the ground, OUCH!

  • ouch

  • Landed it

  • Epic Whiplash!!

  • he is alive?

  • Yeah he's racing in the IRL now for KV racing. This race was in 2001, I was right there on the hillside on top of turn 1 and I saw the whole thing.

  • pretty sure i was sitting beside you

  • You were there too?? Man that was an awesome race, the last great season of CART...

  • what turn is this at

  • Turn 1 (the big hairpin)

  • I'm not being a douche, but its actually turn 2. Laguna considers the kink on the straight turn 1.

  • Andretti hairpin

  • THAT IS SWEET!

  • Double frontflip with a twist, perfect landing. How many drivers can say they did that with a car.

  • crazy

  • This isnt being a jerk but I remember that all too well. They said he was wearing the HANS device but actually he wasnt..Thank God Servia was OK!!

  • you can see the HANS flying out of the car :s

  • That wasn't the HANS device. It's a cushion that attaches above the seat in the cockpit and surrounds the driver's head. Watch a video of any driver getting out of a Champ Car, Indy Car, or F1 car and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's normally the first thing they remove besides the steering wheel.

  • So it is i can see that now. Thats not an easy thing to get out though must have been incredibly heavy impact.

  • Hans device wasn't created then - it was created by Nascar after Dale Earnhardt died /sarcasm

  • you mean, created by Dale Earnhardt after nascar died?

  • @nascarartist20 Neck brace

  • @nascarartist20 Champ Car or Indy Car-yes. F1-no. I've only seen Mark Webber take his head cushion out, and he doesn't do that very often. Anyway, there's nothing wierd about that crash...

  • @MegaSparky555 Look closely then ;)

  • @Enjoy0it ?? What am I looking at?

  • wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was one of the turn workers in that corner. I remember remarking that it was the first time I'd ever seen the bottom of a Champ car. The rest of the race was equally messy.

  • Thats gotta hurt

  • "[David Purley] survived an estimated 179.8 G's in 1977 when he decelerated from 173 km/h (108 mph) to 0 in a distance of 66 cm (26 inches) after his throttle got stuck wide open and he hit a wall. For many years, this was thought to be the highest G-forces ever survived by a human being"

Considering that can happen, and looking at the vid, I'll estimate Servia got AT LEAST 40-50G's from that crash. By no means something fun to experience i'm sure.

  • yeah i have seen some bad crashes in nascar. jeff gordon blew a tire going into turn 1 at pocono and hit the wall and they said it was the 3rd highest g-force rating in a crash in a nascar race. i think they said it was in the 60s

  • that made my head hurt

  • Did the Hanz went of?? 'cause I saw something getting out of the cockpit

  • Should of been a Pole Vaulter

  • No, I'm German, but how did you know my name was Walter? Oldest joke around

  • WHOA!! That was some serious air! Glad he was alright.

  • Ouch. Quite a G-force in the point where the nose hit the ground. Could easily be 6 straight G

  • It won't be be as big as that because the nose is made of carbon fibre which will absorb most of the impact so the driver may only get about 3 or 4 gs

  • 4 G is still a lot :) you're right on the carbon fibre absorbing tho

  • They get 4Gs while braking or cornering, a crash like that can put up to 100-200Gs on a driver. Just for a piece of a second, but it can.

  • 100-200? huh :o

  • My civic can pull 20,000gs in a corner.

  • yep ive checked it. i meant josep-maria servia, hes the one who drives rally cars. but i think theyre relatives.

  • Josep Maria is his uncle (I think, I'm not sure)

Go Servia!!! Defend spanish honor on USA
