  • why does this video look like a video shot in the early nineties lol nonetheless amazing haha

  • Love this

  • The emotion (wherever the inspiration came from, i.e. alcoholism, abandonment, forgiveness, temptation , or commitment) this song is saturated in emotion, first time hearing the acoustic version... Great two shot vid, with flash cameras... Hearing it as a acoustic performance , it illustrates and intensifies the emotion behind the lyrics. Another performance, slayed.

  • That songs all about how he's an alcoholic and his family left him cause he stopped going to A.A. meetings.

  • i want to see these guys!!1

  • always going to be my favorite song by them.

  • I love this song so much I promised to my wife and children so good live!!!

  • I tried out for a skoo talent show singing this song and NO1 new it wit da exception of me and 1 other guy smh... ppl r missing out BIG TIME if they havnt heard this moving song :)

  • I always think he says "punched the nipples" instead of "punched the Nichols" ._.

  • @masch996 I had no idea it wasn't 'punch the nipples' until your comment lol

  • WOW, outstanding...............

  • What is the tab based on this video? None of the versions I've seen show a chord progression that's in the middle of the neck like he's playing. I think he's working off the Am bar chord but obviously there's more going on.

  • @MadHatterOnSkis Am Ab G F# A THE CHORD IS SOMETING LIKE THAT - - 5 7 X 5 and the progression is on the D STRING from 7 to 4 chorus G C F sorry for my english im from chile I hope I was helpful greetings
  • @ Blakerwalk... FYI : Alot of songs deliberately change tempo when the hook comes in. It's pretty standard stuff when it comes to building a song.. Just sayin...

  • Great live performance.. And great song about denial and the pains it causes. This entire album is good and I recommend giving it a listen. Good shit

  • Nice to hear a voice that sounds just as great acoustic!

  • I think I like it better live.... which is saying a lot! <3

  • each song is like a feeling, an actual feeling....wow...speechless.

  • pure talent

  • Some of the best lyrics there are

  • can someone make a tab for this plz!!!!

  • @TheBSLevin e-5 b-5 g-5 d-7, e-5 b-5 g-5 d-6, e-5 b-5 g-5 d-5, e-5 b-5 g-5 d-4, then it's C, then G, then F, then repeat. I hope this helps you

  • @SublimeBtbam9 cool, thanks

  • i have nothing but love for this

  • that-cheers-whitemencantjump-jackiemoon-lookin-motherfucker

  • Love it

  • 12 people mixed a gin and sank into oblivion

  • @ice9planet , we all did evidentialy

  • @santanna935 haha nice. Cheers!

  • man. i get a weird feeling when i watch a video that i like and it's four years old. makes me feel like i should've known about it earlier.

  • i didnt know tarantino could sing!!!

  • Said things could be much worse..

  • goddamn. +

  • i fucking LOVE his voice. it's so special, it's not a man's nor a woman's voice, it's super unique. and amazing how similar it sounds live to what's recorded, most artists don't come of so good live

  • The vocal melody sounds similar to gavin degraw's chariot on the part when he sings "i promise to my wife and children" but of course this song is better in my opinion.

  • i respect you for actually doing a live song and proving that the audio is not auto tuned even on the album

  • I did a sex wee

  • fyi : this song deliberately features tempo changes.

  • It's pretty refreshing to hear such a unique voice that doesn't suck or sound inconsistent when unplugged/ out of the studio!

  • Amazing.

  • me encanta!!!!

  • lol! "That's that one."

  • the 9 people that gave this vid a thumbs down are fucked in the head, I LOVE COLD WAR KIDS! THIS VID INSPIRED ME TO LEARN THIS SONG, AND I'M GONNA PLAY/SING IT RIGHT MEOW, dedicated to everyone who thumbs up my comment :D

  • Love your quaint little reviews guys! Just good to know you love it whether you can express that eloquently or not is irellevant!lol! x

  • cep't things could be much worse!...we still got our health, my paycheck in the mail!

  • I just love the voice...

    the lyrics are amazingly moving.

  • Ah, Paris...

  • Verve-like!

  • worst. audience. ever.

  • the bit starting with "i promised to my wife and children" that is such a fking cool part and certainly the "this will all blow over in time" at the end

    I ARE LOVING IT :)

  • fantastic!

  • awesome

  • Eargasm haha

  • This version is AMAZING!

  • Why don't they start clapping as soon as he's done playing?? I think he is an amazing musician!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • This song does something to me everytime!

  • wtf with the high school dance lighting??

  • this version is soo fuckin great, i saw them at lollapalooza this yr but u really lose the personal touch in huge crowds. i woulda loved to see this

  • Amazing song

Does anybody have tabs or chords for this?

  • verse:

    g---5---5---5---7---

    d---7---6---5---4---

    then chorus:

    F-C-G

i think the F chord sounds better if played without the low F note

the rhythm is easy to find out!

  • @Elimnio you also have to have E--5--5--5--5 held

  • Love this song, haven't heard it in ages!

Such an awesome version too, his voice is really good in this :)

  • they didnt clap clap at first because the song doesnt end on a note that it sounds like it should. it ends on a hanging note so they dont know its over until he says it is.

  • woooot

  • where was this? seems like the audience haven't a clue about music!!

  • Why did no one clap until he said something? I thought it was really really ridiculously beautiful.

  • Great song. I miss the piano :(

  • I have been listening to Cold War Kids ever since the Mulberry Street EP was released. I think his voice is superb in this version of the song. However I did not expect much out of an acoustic version of a song where the piano stands out like it does in the original. Don't get me wrong he is very good at what he does. However, I think that the unique Cold War Kids sound that I have come to know and love is somewhat lost in this acoustic style.

  • Fantastic voice. Great song.

  • my favorite cold war kids version.

  • I think they should have titled it Nathan Willett - We Used To Vacation. Seems like adlem is giving credit where credit is not due. No offense to the rest of the band.

  • really great song!! and beautiful voice.

  • Nice work!

  • awesome.

  • good joke

  • @OYYKIT then go watch r. kelly videos faggot. die. please.

  • i love this band! his voice kicks ass

  • This is awesome. Love the Cold War Kids.

  • I say its breaks the molds that's what I like about it. And its good song writing

  • i looooooooove this song :D

  • Really really good. All you saying he looses his timing a bit, it's called rallantando. Awesome vid.

  • thankyou. someone who understands music at last

  • actually "rallentando", but yes.

  • He's an artist, not a fucking metronome.

  • Might be .... the original swing in rythm somethimes 2

  • He falls out of the rythme alot of times...

  • maybe its because i appreciate artistic expression... but i dont notice.

    it's flawless, in my perspective

  • Thats always good. But he does lose rythme a bit :)

  • Are both you and "dudesonomg" trying to spell the word rhythm? Or is that word some sort of mutant love-child birthed from when rhyme and rhythm had sex with each other?

  • sry i don kno how to speel. derrrrrr

  • Rofl I love you

  • @dudesonomg not like your popular songs of course

  • GREAT

  • Voice and a half

  • dang, this song makes you look at life a little differently, like our shitty times could be so much worse.

  • great version of a spectacular song :)

i kinda prefer it acoustic. fits the mood more

  • He struggles a little which i like. Gives a feeling of vulnerability which really really suites the lyrics. Awesome

  • moar like cold war kid

  • This song actually changed my life. Put alot of things into perspective for me. Amazing song!

  • what a horrible, uninformed statement. don't compare wolfmother with a band this good.

  • thats like comparing classical music to queens of the stone age.

I love both, but you don't do that.

You like cheese on toast, you like marmalade on toast... together??? no tah

  • lol they have similar genres...

  • great song from a great album but new stuff is absolute rot unfortunately.....i was hopin they would come up with more originality but it hasnt happened!

  • I think this is really amazing...and i dont understand this whole "ladykiller" thing at all. I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion about music, and one persons comparison may not be anything like another persons. Personally, i like Maroon 5. I think they have some really nice beats and vocals and instrumentals, and i really enjoy listening to them. Not because of how popular they are, but because i simply like the music for what it is. I also love Cold War Kids.

  • Wow people need to stop being music snobs.

Seems like they're just being snobs 'cause it somehow gives them an ego boost listening to crap other people don't listen to.

  • CWK run sh*$....great to hear newer music that really doesn't sound like anyone else!

  • I adore his voice, they're a great band.

  • Cold War Kids give people who still cherish great music a chance to love music again. Thank God.

  • all im sayin is, cold war kids are super good and thats that.

  • Love this guy's voice. And the lyrics to this song blow me away.

  • their music is awesome, just like their lyrics!

  • who the hell is shining stupid lights on him?

  • lol don't worry guys, ladykiller is some 32 year old who obviously lost his chance to make it in the big world. At that age, if your still hating on 90s grunge, then comparing Maroon 5 to CWK, that's 15 years of muddled, ill-conceived ridiculousness and apparently he missed the bigger picture. He's the type that cries himself to sleep while watching "I Love The 80's" and wondering where Boy George and all the Unicorns went.

    ps.

    I <3 the 80s, but I'm not a relic from it

    ;)

  • holy shit. LadyKiller ...... did you have a bad day or something or are you just a bitter bitter person?? I feel sorry for you. You obviously have zero real appreciation for music otherwise who listens to this band would be irrelevant ... they are talented and are great live ... end of story.

  • wow.

your comparison between cold war kids and maroon5 makes me want to vomit. ladykiller i don't understand why you felt the need to comment on this video if your so against it. I'm sure it's because being a dumb judgemental fuck makes you soooo cool. i get it, your way better than the rest of us "way to go".

  • Oh my god! I think hipsters are more whiney than any group of people. Can't you just like what you like and hate what you hate, and cut the bull shit? Your music selection makes you so intellectual. Can I please hang out with you and listen to some sweet mix tapes while talking about how the decemberists sold out?

  • ladykiller your not excluded from indie if your band makes money. indie is staying true to your music and not being in it just for popularity. im not saying i like maroon 5 at all, youve just got it wrong pal.

chrisgurule i hope your being sarcastic about the decemberists selling it because thats total nonesone.

  • No, I'm not being sarcastic because I've met these artsy kids that only listen to the most underground indie that they can get their hands on. Once a band starts selling out at venues, these bands become "sell outs" to them because they have achieved at least a small glimpse of mainstream popularity.

  • because maroon 5 isn't indie lite?

  • Cold war kids are for kids ready to listen to some good music.

    Maroon 5 is terrible!

  • What's good music in your opinion?

  • Good music in my opinion is alot of independent music.

Alot of stuff like Bowerbirds, Port O'Brien, Ray LaMontagne, stuff like that.

Not even all folk stuff. Alot of Electro type music, like Hot Chip, MGMT, and Postal Service.

That's just some examples of good music in my opinion. I just really think Maroon Five is just a little too poppy for me.

  • try Grizzly Bear. I love all those bands.

  • I already love grizzly bear. Them and the animal collective are awesome.

  • very gud

  • someone have the tabs for this song... love it

  • i sort of got the riff

    A C G# C G C F# C F#F#F# G G# A

    those are notes, not chords

  • he owns

  • I've always wondered if he's talking about an actual bar when he says "ran up a tab on 7th and flower"

  • amazin band

saw them at a festival in leicester

and amongst bands like supergrass and reverend and the makers

    they really stood out

    captivating

  • the best version they've done of this song is the MTV live preformance one

  • link?

  • I'M JUST AN HONEST MAN....

  • absolutly amazing xXx

  • fucking love this guy's voice, so raw

  • they all go to my church :)...very very great guys

  • lies

  • Unlike most people, I discovered these guys after listening to the band Delta Spirit. Most people hear them the other way around. At any rate, both the bands are awesome, go listen to Delta Spirit's people c'mon, or Trashcan, if you have never heard them before.

  • delta spirit is amazing. saw them a couple days ago.

  • gahh, ive seen them 3 times. And all of those 3 times was before they got big. Cold War Kids Loveee

  • What I most love about Cold War Kids, apart from their musical brilliance, is that even though they arent majorly successful like some bands they still play, due to the sheer joy of it! And that is what i love!

  • or maybe they keep on in hoping one day theyll make enough to pay the bills...just saying.

  • so under-rated

  • i fucking love this band. they are my favorite:) the indie bands are always the best

  • Because indie bands could really care less about commercial success and make music for the love of music, which always makes it quality music and unlike the crap they play on the radio...

  • How so?

  • nice version.

  • wow and i thought they couldnt get any better! i was definately wrong, they are so amazing

  • so fantastic

  • Got to love his guitar playing, love the broken nature of it!

  • is that the real guy who sings it? I cant tell... :/

  • yeah

  • what a question ! :D

  • WOW! is it just me or does "We used to vacation" sound smooth in acoustic?

Think its better to just keep it simple and haughty

  • Okay...so in this video he says "mix a gin," but on the album he says "mix a drink." I think mix a gin sounds a lot better, though.

  • i'm pretty sure he says "mix the gin" on the album...but i could be wrong

  • he says mix a gin on both

  • wow... thats talent

  • Cold War Kids have an air of Arcade Fire about them, which is a super good thing, i'm really loving CWK at the moment.

  • That must be a tiny air. I my opinion anyway, good thing nevertheless :)

  • If this video was a person, I would marry that person

  • Great video, thank you for posting it.

  • these riffs are soothing

  • this is brilliant, i havent heard it in a while =]

    x

  • im going to see them at Sasquatch in may!

  • me too!!

  • I love what these "kids" have brought to the table with their music, I can't help but to smile.

  • Such a great performance! I love this song and his voice is amazing.

  • AMAZING.

  • this dudes voice is so kickass :D
