@soldierwill99 He left shortly after my cycle, I actually think we were one of his last cycles, if not the last one. DS Triplett in stationed in Hawaii now. We were her last cycle.
@tubasaresexy - No...this is just ceremonial. Hi CrissyPoet . I too was a volunteer . I know my point of view differs from you're's , and thats O.K.... Thanks for your correction the uniform thtat i was discribing were suppose to be { B.D..U's } not A.C.U's . With that said , i think all you soldiers are doing a fine job . i salute you and i'm sure the country salutes you as well . GOD BLESS the U.S.....
@0587dave There are THREE females in the front row and only ONE male...all three of the females in the front were placed there for EXCEPTIONAL performance throughout BCT and actually the female to which you are referring is my BESTFRIEND and BattleBuddy who fractured her hip on a ruck march STILL completed BCT passed her APFT...im sorry when and where were you in service? I dont care what a soldiers form is she is busting her ass in the Army on a daily basis...
0587dave ..... Then i guess this is a whole different Army . I guess the culture of the Army has changed , just like their fatiuges . I think they call them [ B.D.U.'s ] now . Anyways i heard that in boot camp and a.i.t. that they are letting the soldiers eat all they wan't now , and they don't yell or holler as much and loud as they use to . There are sure a lot of change in todays service . I still think that parading these soldiers like that is disrepectful to the uniform & the soldiers.
@pajado75 you know so much about the "ARMY CULTURE" yet you don't know the uniforms are ACUs...hmmm...where did you hear about what they allow soldiers to do in Basic COMBAT training...probably the same place you heard our uniforms are BDU's...I think its funny how people have so many critiques of soldiers and yet these soldiers some 18 years old are fighting for our country right now...I am curious as to how their selflessness is disrespectful in anyway the change in service now is
@CrissyPoet well if you served prior to the early 2000 it was called BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform) at least that what it was called in 1994 when I joined. The ACU were still refered to as BDU when I got out in 2002. I did not know that these terms had changed until we hired a new guy at work and he had just got out of the army. Dont be to harsh on us older veterans. Our service was just as distinguished and important as yours we just had difrent terminology and acronyms.
@pajado75 we VOLUNTEER we aren't DRAFTED...there are more soldiers that join simply because they love their country not because they HAD to yes it is a different culture....a culture of American heros
@CrissyPoet Sorry to burst your America: home of the free, land of the brave BS but studies show that a majority of people join the military for financial reasons. In other words, in America our class gaps are so large & unequal those whom even dream of getting out of poverty must the financial stability offered by the military. That's why they target poor demographics. Have you ever seen a recruiter's station in a rich neighborhood? The rich get richer & the poor join the US military.
@normanowns0613 No truer statement has ever been made. This was also true in the ancient Roman empire. People joined the military and went to war because of the financial gain and sustainable living.
@normanowns0613 Not true at all I come from an upper-class family and I'm enlisting. I believe I owe a bit of my life to my country for giving me a such a comfortable life. Also my dad was dirt poor through High School, he got a ROTC scholarship became an officer flew harriers for the Marine Corps. After his time was up he became a successful airline pilot and my family has lived very comfortable ever since. Your probably just to lazy to get out and make something of yourself.
@ryancicocki Oh cut the BS & level w me. People who exercise the whole "I wanna spill my blood for my country" excuse are lunatics who wanna take out their childhood anger by shooting little brown kids.
& its obvious you hold your dad in high regard. Marine corps? let me guess...he was incredibly strict, cold, & unforgiving? & now youre joining (the marine corps i bet) to finally make dear ol'papa proud? So why ru joining really?...are you nuts, or is it daddy issues? Both perhaps?
@normanowns0613 Actually no I'm joining the national guard as an enlisted man as a black-hawk mechanic. My dad didnt force me to join in. I wanted to join so I can help out with hurricane relief, I live in Florida. I don't want to go overseas but if I have to I will do my duty. Not to mention all the great benefits. So to answer your questions my dads a great guy, very forgiving and a little strict. Im not joining the USMC. Im joining because I want to. I'm completely sane and want I want to.
@normanowns0613 What studies? How come you detractors never backup what you're saying with real evidence? Does it matter If they go in for money? I've met plenty of college grads and people who left behind decent work to join up as well. Is it so unusual that many "poor" people join? Considering the GI Bill, Tuition Asistance, college credit, free fringe benefits, and job training that recruits receive, the military does more to help the poor than you're willing to admit.
@normanowns0613 Are you kidding me? Have you seen the pay scale for the military. They start out at less than 1500 a month. fast food pays more than that.
Man i thought that it was pretty lame of the N.C.O's to make these soldiers do puch ups in their class " A " s . I was in the Army back in the day " vietnam ara " a pretty tuff time , also and our instructors would not of had up pull a stunt like that , especially on Graduation day .........
@pajado75 it wasnt a humilation thing it was more of a roasting in front of our familes so they could see how far we had come we all enjoyed it and so did our families
Graduation from Basic was an inspiring event, with relief enough to match the absurdity of how the drill sergeants got us there. A new book called "Nine Weeks" chronicles BCT in hilarious detail. Check it out on Amazon.
My bf is there right now, just started Blue phase. He is a "hard start" and won't graduate with the rest of the people because his AIT date starts earlier =(
Haha..i just came from ft. jackson a couple days ago. Echo 3-34 1st Plt. EXECUTIONERS!!! DS Cotten is a SSG now and this was DS Triplett last cycle, and DS Bost left to be Delta Co. 1SG...and did the commander (Cpt. Brannon) threaten yall with PT the way he did us?
They call it relaxin Jackson because WAYYYY back in the day during your last weeks at BCT they had clubs that they where aloud to go to on the weekends...This has changed...but the name stuck...
hey my husband left on 4-08-2009 and i want too know when they get there at midnight.that night i want to know when do they get there first call and when do they get tp write a letter
They can write a letter the first day but it may be a week or two before he can mail it out, he will not know his mailing address until he is finished at 1-20th (reception) and depends on the Drill SGT, we didnt get a phone call for two weeks, so don't worry if he doesn't call strait away.
everyone told us it was "relaxing" jackson as well...um...its basic COMBAT training...combat and relaxed don't go in the same sentance, its not that bad though, just dont think its summer camp, cuz its bct, the most fun you'll never want to have again guaruntee it :)
My fiance left for Fort Jackson yesterday and should be arriving at midnight tonight. He was told that later into it, they would allow them to use their cell phones only on sundays. Is this true? Also, he's 6'1 250 lbs, how much weight do you think he will be losing in those 9 wks?
it depends on his personal motivation, he will lose weight, but there is not a sure way of knowing how much. depends on his Drill Sgts. And, as far as cell phones, we were told the same bullshit, we got our cell phones the day we graduated, but that also depends on the drill sergeant
run. do push ups. do sit ups <--why do guys suck at situps? and leave your ego at home. you ain't on the block any more so dont go trying to be all hardcore cuz you will get broken off LOL....and enjoy the hell of out of, its the best experiance you will never want to have again.
lol yeah it was crazy cuz our Drill Sgts said they were going to smoke us in front of our family and we were like, yeah right...sure enough, they formed up our whole company and smoke us...and yeah Fort Jackson is beautiful! Ft Gordon...wow, its horrible...lol...everyone there knows it too
hehehe- I graduated from A Co 3/60th on January 30th, 2009, and this sure brings back memories. We got smoked in Class A's too, but not infront of our parents. I miss it there- Ft Jax is so much better than Ft Gordon....
To bad we don't get those uniforms anymore.. Now we get a gay blue one..

So, medics are bitches? I gotta disagree there is no such thing as a "female" job---if men were only grunts there would literally be no Army
CrissyPoet 2 years ago
my fiance left for basic training t fort Jackson June 9th... i don't know much abut any of this stuff so any info would be welcome!!!
kinseysgirl 2 years ago
@ Thuglife: Look at your name, it is not your job to judge a single person in the military. Grow up.

hey my husband left on 4-08-2009 and i want too know when they get there at midnight.that night i want to know when do they get there first call and when do they get tp write a letter
omgivan26 2 years ago
They can write a letter the first day but it may be a week or two before he can mail it out, he will not know his mailing address until he is finished at 1-20th (reception) and depends on the Drill SGT, we didnt get a phone call for two weeks, so don't worry if he doesn't call strait away.

everyone told us it was "relaxing" jackson as well...um...its basic COMBAT training...combat and relaxed don't go in the same sentance, its not that bad though, just dont think its summer camp, cuz its bct, the most fun you'll never want to have again guaruntee it :)
CrissyPoet 2 years ago
i leave for ft. jackson in june. i hope what yall say is true i want the full experience
funnysmartass1 3 years ago
My fiance left for Fort Jackson yesterday and should be arriving at midnight tonight. He was told that later into it, they would allow them to use their cell phones only on sundays. Is this true? Also, he's 6'1 250 lbs, how much weight do you think he will be losing in those 9 wks?
chrissybabi2108 3 years ago
it depends on his personal motivation, he will lose weight, but there is not a sure way of knowing how much. depends on his Drill Sgts. And, as far as cell phones, we were told the same bullshit, we got our cell phones the day we graduated, but that also depends on the drill sergeant

CrissyPoet 3 years ago
lol yeah it was crazy cuz our Drill Sgts said they were going to smoke us in front of our family and we were like, yeah right...sure enough, they formed up our whole company and smoke us...and yeah Fort Jackson is beautiful! Ft Gordon...wow, its horrible...lol...everyone there knows it too
CrissyPoet 3 years ago
hehehe- I graduated from A Co 3/60th on January 30th, 2009, and this sure brings back memories. We got smoked in Class A's too, but not infront of our parents. I miss it there- Ft Jax is so much better than Ft Gordon....
