Actually, it really is sharper. Unlike you, I'm not using my PS3 to record the game (my ps3 won't read any PS2-Games), but rather an emulator. My game-disc is so scratched that my PS2 can't load certain things, which would cause the game to freeze. However, the image I made using the disc works perfectly on my emulator, so the heck do I know why it isn't working on my PS2.
On the other hand, the emulator can actually render the game with HD-Graphics. Ask me for more info ;)
