What's wrong with progression? Lots of people in the classical period felt like Beethoven was butchering music just as much as some feel modern rap or rock does as well. I feel that no direction of exploration should be ignored. The music of the past will still exist... trying new things isn't going to do damage as long as we keep an appreciation for the old. The problem with the world is not the new, it is a loss of respect for the past.

The modern pop industry will be as forgotten as the lead filled toilets of ancient Rome, nothing but a historical curiosity for the technological progression of our era.
