  • Fantastic video, great to see this done on the fly!!

  • Was that one of the 4 axle Dash 8s or was it a 6 axle unit? Also what's with the delay between turning the switch to start and the prime mover actually beginning to turn?

  • Can you walk us throught the switches you are hitting in the cab and what they do. I m a noob!!

  • Awesome Video!

  • You are so fucking lucky to have the job you do! I see your post where they treat you like children. But, damn! Love how you start the beast while on the road!

  • @jasinicus1 Like I said, I love the JOB but the outfit I work for is probably the worst place I have ever worked. Morale is VERY low. but The job is fun :) I get paid to ride around on trains :)

  • is that high sulfur deisel in that fuel ball?

  • @crazyjay1975 We get to run the "red" fuel (non taxable) and I believe it is the high sulphur.

  • These are without doubt, some of the best videos showing a SAFE train-worker actually enjoying his job. So many other Conductor / Engineers, hate the job, the work, the company, responsible railfans….

  • @w1ljw I do love my job, and sadly the reason the attitude on the railroad is so bad is due to our management. They treat us like children and are always trying to fire us. I love trains and I love railfans which is why I make these videos for you guys..

  • @TrainCamera awesome man! If I wasnt a firefighter I would be a railroader. Good on ya!

  • ahh much appreciated man!! love your vids!

  • I love GEs so much! Thanks for the layshaft demonstration. Do Dash 9s and GEVOs also have them? I'm assuming they would, but I've never seen them.

  • what were u just hanging out on that train untill they needed. because I did not know u could hop train to train. any way GREAT VIDEO!!!

  • @thepopeis1 If you look on the front and rear of the engines, there are little platforms that extend outwards beneath a set of chains on the handrails. These chains are hooked together which allows the crew member to move from unit to unit.

  • Is it hard on it to put it to work before it really warms up like that?

  • very cool!

  • I spy with my little eye a Southern Pacific engine @ 1:24, I seen it here in Va a few weeks ago.

  • So even GE locomotives have layshafts then. Never knew that till now.

  • God I love these videos!!!

  • very good! Keep'em coming!

  • I thought if the locomotives were MU'd together you can start them in the controlling loco's cab?

  • @northstar2007 No you must go to each unit, to start it up, even if they are MU'ed

  • @andyj74 It makes sense in a way. but would still be nice if you could lol

  • what do you mean by quit loading

  • @tigermki I assume it could not handle any more load and they started this unit to generate more tractive effort ( I could be very wrong on this)

  • @northstar2007 That is correct!

  • @EeRocKK Thanks, I thought thats what it was, but wanted to leave that open incase I was wrong. Thanks!

  • @tigermki I'm guessing the alternator, traction motors, or engine got too hot on that unit, so the computer unloaded (disconnected) the alternator on that unit. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @TankCrusher210 i just found out it means the engine quit giving out any power
