Look - Is it not true that the officers of corporations are required BY LAW to maximize the profits in order to maximize the earnings of shareholders? Is it not also true that officers of corporations can be held responsible UNDER THE LAW if they make choices that do not provide the greatest possible return for the shareholders? So, isn't it CORPORATE LAW the source of nasty behavior by businesses, management and employees? Charitable behavior is contrary to the interests of the shareholders.

If enough people do that, they will suddenly have a change of heart. But that's the fatal flaw in the "free market" notion. That the market has any wisdom to effect changes. We don't. Fixed it. Although we probably have adequate resources - they're just poorly managed and distributed - or managed and distributed by the corrupt. And reliance on technology isn't bad. Technology is a tool. You can build a house with a hammer - or hit someone in the head. It's how technology is used that matters.
