my congo gray hasn't been trained yet to harness. But she likes to play with her toys and grabs them not letting go. It's her toy and she won't let go. I don't get into a power struggle w/ her and she evetually drops it. She is eight months old and I know once I try and start training her to the harness she is gonna latch on to the leash like it is one of her toys. how can I start her trainingg with this in mind BEFORE it becomes a problem. She is a very gental bird even potty trained
i want to buy an aviator harness for my parrot from avianweb.com but i don't know what size to get cause there is small aviator harness which is for timneh and small congo greys and the other size which is medium aviator harness is for large amazon parrots, umbrella cockatoos and large congo greys.
My congo grey is one year and six month old...could you please let me know what size is better the small or medium size
YEAH RIGHT ! My African Grey,Dusty by the way,would NEVER EVER let me do this.I'd stress him out way too much,and on top of that,I'd get bitten real good ! Plus,he would stop trusting me !
@smudgesquirt Maybe we should put a harness on YOU. My Moluccan Cockatoo lived with me for 15 years and never needed a harness. We went hiking in the woods every week. I trimmed her wings and she relied on me to protect her at all times. If you want birds with wings unclipped you should build an Aviary of no less than 20 feet high by 50 feet long. Otherwise you are torturing your birds. Your video shows all your birds biting at the annoying string lead because they don't like it ! ! ! !
@durgaaa i don't have any birds... ? i'm not going to clip my birds wings when i get it. why are you yelling at me? you said "why does a bird need a harness?" a lot of people bring their birds out with unclipped wings... so they use a harness, because their bird is not flight trained. :( sorry.
you have beautiful birds- i love ivy blue and gold macaws are just sooo amazing... unfortunately i am only a teenager and such a bird is not practical for me(nor is a £1,300 price tag...!) i am getting my first bird in 13 days time! a
hey is the line of this aviator harness and leash strong? is it just elastic string? or does it have something inside the string to reduce the chances of your parrot nibbleing it and chewing it up and rip.? please help me! and please let me know the website where you ordered these please i need help thank you!!! :D
That was a great tutorial! What brand harness do you use? It looked like the one you are using might be an easier one to get on my Quakers. lol You have three beautiful babies, too! {ovo}

What on earth does a bird need a harness for ?
durgaaa 1 year ago
@durgaaa So they don't fly away when they go outside. For birds with unclipped wings.
