Job Corps dedicates a full month, for career preparation. The classes are split into two phases. Career Preparation Phase 1 and 2. CPP1 is all about getting to know yourself more and teamwork building. You will also be taking the T.A.B.E test during this phase.
CPP2 covers many things. From money management to interview skills. This class has alot of useful information. Basically, the whole class is a life skills course.

Do we get to go home? Yes you can during weekends. However, you have to be back usually by 9:00 PM Sunday. In fact, during a long break like winter. If you came from another state, they'll actually fly you back home if you want.
Do we get televisions on our dorm rooms? The job corps center I attended had only one tv per dorm. I saw people playing their xbox360 from time to time on it.
Do they got a gym or work out spots? Yes they do, but our's were empty most of the time...
@Gheegharm You can either take a day or weekend pass to do whatever. If you feel like staying on campus, they have field trips called "outings". Where they take you to the mall, movies, store etc. *TIP* Don't be tempted to spend your payday (every 2 weeks) on junks, focus on necessities. If you can't seem to save trow a minimum of 5% of your payday in the bank, more if your feeling like a rebel!
They are trying to teach people responsibility. We all have a boss in life. Some kids are not fortunate to have families that are good teachers, some don't have anyone positive in their lives. So I think Job Corp is great.

LAJC is not the same when I use to go there 2001-02. Now they all strict and shit. We didn't have to wear a uniform or nothing. But if anyone decide to go to jc don't go to los angeles. Go to long beach jc, san diego, or out of state. I use to hate lajc food . They use to have roaches in their juice fountain and where they keep their cakes.

@caffeinejunkie92 not an actually gym class. unless you failed the drug test, they didn't make you go. i never went so i don't know what happens there.
they might put you in the same room at the beginning but eventually they will probably move you. but i'm not sure, so don't quote me.

@mickiieLiZ i probably wont pass a drug test for awhile because of weed . As i have med card for a knee injury. i know one of the requirements for enrollment is to pass a drug test right? What if i don't pass the drug test but still haven't been using? Will they let you in and just check your levels the next time to see if they're lower? Or am i screwed?

i went to the gainesville job corps center in gainesville ,fl i would recommend that center if you are interested in going to job corps the painted it now it was white when i first went back in 1994 -1995 they have zero tolerance for violence and drugs
My girlfriend is going to attend to the Job Corps in Pittsburgh, PA this January. From what i have been reading about i been hearing that Job Corps is not ideal really, specially since she is a very good girl. wow you had it easy... the job corps i went to, 530 wake up call, 8 people to a room. sign in by 6, get to breakfast at 6-7, get back to the dorm, do bay details, then do dorm details and then at 8 get to trade and at 4:10 dorm meeting then the rest of the day till 9:50 was ours, at 9:50 was evening details lights out was 10:30 then it all started over again
i wen to the jobcorp in utah. it was a daly routine. the reason why u left was because you were in buisness tech. WORST TRADE EVER!!! you should of done CNA or Culinary.

When I was in JC I woke up at 7.20am..Had great job on campus.I worked in admissions. Went to Math class in the mornings. Worked the whole week an had trade class every thursday at end of the day..JC was Awsome I LOVE IT!! Best thing that ever happened to me.

no u won't be able to leave without their permission. As to how you obtain their permission each job corps has a different set of rules. The entire system is based on attitude if you maintain a positive attitude then you will succeed. You meet a lot of new people but you have to be careful.
i got accepted to job corp . i start on monday. i already have a high school diploma. i 'm just going there for the free security classes. the only down side is that it takes 6 months to complete my security trade. i really want a job badly but i don't want to waste 6 months......esp when i alreadt have some security certificate.
JC is a self-paced program. You finish when you want to finish. But it also depends on the type of trade you enter. A trade like CNA/LVN is semi annually. Something like Office Admin is rolling entry.
I went to Los Angeles Job Corps and I liked it, I lived in downtown dorms for 2 months then they moved me to Studio Club which are the dorms in Hollywood off of Sunset and Gower and it was soo nice, those dorms used to be a hotel for actors and my room was actually a room Marilyn Monroe stayed in when she filmed in H-Wood, I was Vice Pres of the 2nd floor had my own bathroom I really loved it there.
As long as you don't have a criminal background you can get accepted into JC. If you're addicted to drugs, JC has a program called TEAP to get you off drugs. So nothing should stop anyone from getting in unless they have a criminal background

@Kaiser373773 i'm not sure if they let u choose roommates but i HIGHLY doubt it....but they do give u like $25 every two weeks to buy stuff....i know it doesn't seem like much but pretty much everything is paid for...so really that's all you need.

You can request certain roommates but the JC staff have the finish say in whether the move happens or not. They do give you a bi-weekly allowance. It increases depending on your length in the program but it never exceeds the amount of $50 dollars. It decreases if you obtain AWOLs (absences) during that pay period.
no not at all...they just had me fill out papers, answer a couple questions, watch a video and that was when i decided which center i wanted to go to.

I was thinking about going and leaving high school but I dont want my GED. Is it optional of what you could get like a GED Or a High School Dipolma?

@noonic23 Hey I can give you some insight, I went to job corps in 07 and got a high school diploma, depending on which job corp you attend they each have a different way of attaining that or a GED, the one I went to had a charter high school on campus so I was fortunate to get a hs diploma and not a GED so check out the campus in your location

Right now I'm in the same position you were in in your first video, lol. I'm glad that I watched these, and thankful to you for taking time to make them. I watched them all, and am now looking a bit more forward to job corps which I'm either starting next week or the week after that, it gets a pretty bad rep, but hopefully it's the same situation here where it won't be as bad as they say. When I was in JC I woke up at 7.20am..Had great job on campus.I worked in admissions. Went to Math class in the mornings. Worked the whole week an had trade class every thursday at end of the day..JC was Awsome I LOVE IT!! Best thing that ever happened to me.

i have an orientation for JobCorps on Wednesday, and I'm somewhat nervous about it. If I get in, would I be able to ever leave the premises? Lol, I imagine it to be sort of like prison...

@luissantoyo27 ...i depends on what center you go to. they're all different i think. at the one i went to in los angeles they let us go out pretty much whenever except for wednesdays or some shit like that.

no u won't be able to leave without their permission. As to how you obtain their permission each job corps has a different set of rules. The entire system is based on attitude if you maintain a positive attitude then you will succeed. You meet a lot of new people but you have to be careful.

i got accepted to job corp . i start on monday. i already have a high school diploma. i 'm just going there for the free security classes. the only down side is that it takes 6 months to complete my security trade. i really want a job badly but i don't want to waste 6 months......esp when i alreadt have some security certificate.

JC is a self-paced program. You finish when you want to finish. But it also depends on the type of trade you enter. A trade like CNA/LVN is semi annually. Something like Office Admin is rolling entry.

I went to Los Angeles Job Corps and I liked it, I lived in downtown dorms for 2 months then they moved me to Studio Club which are the dorms in Hollywood off of Sunset and Gower and it was soo nice, those dorms used to be a hotel for actors and my room was actually a room Marilyn Monroe stayed in when she filmed in H-Wood, I was Vice Pres of the 2nd floor had my own bathroom I really loved it there.

As long as you don't have a criminal background you can get accepted into JC. If you're addicted to drugs, JC has a program called TEAP to get you off drugs. So nothing should stop anyone from getting in unless they have a criminal background

@Kaiser373773 i'm not sure if they let u choose roommates but i HIGHLY doubt it....but they do give u like $25 every two weeks to buy stuff....i know it doesn't seem like much but pretty much everything is paid for...so really that's all you need.
don't be nervous. it's not as bad as ppl say. it just wasn't for me...but i'm sure you'll be fine.

You can request certain roommates but the JC staff have the finish say in whether the move happens or not. They do give you a bi-weekly allowance. It increases depending on your length in the program but it never exceeds the amount of $50 dollars. It decreases if you obtain AWOLs (absences) during that pay period.

i coudnt stand job corp iright girl re everthing was slob wack . i was there6 06 07 for my nursing assistant i had business tech too ms flowers she was nice but yea job corp was jus for people who didnt know what to do in life
