  • I don't care what anyone says! If I bought an all natural organic toy and a small part came off and choked my baby to death, I'd be mighty pissed that the toy hadn't been tested by some sort of safety commission!

  • I don't care what anyone says! If I bought an all natural organic toy and a small part came off and choked my baby to death, I'd be mighty pissed that the toy hadn't been tested by some sort of safety commission!

  • Stupid! People are going to buy/wear/make them anyways! I make them, I think as along as the yarn has been tested/is baby safe then the booties should be okay too!

  • you can't buy bikes either it sucks :(

  • Oh, so I guess my Grandmothers baby booties she's been making forever are illegal in the USA? That's just insane!!!

  • Uninteded consequences huh?

More like intended, designer consequences. If you think they are too stupid to pull this off than remember that it's not actually the stupid looking ones doing the planning. The incompetent public figures can't look smart while pulling this off. Designer incompetence and federal regulation of personal habits.

Please watch Constitution Class by Michael Badnarik.

  • i did research and found out that government permissible levels of anything are set by industry, not government.

  • WAKE UP people. This is about control. How much crap are you going to take; what will your children and grandchild have to put up with. Many people have to buy from thrift stores to get by, now they will try to end that as a source of saving. Food co-ops are experiencing harrasment by swat teams (Ohio). Home schoolers are under attack (Calif.). This is incrimental STATISM; stripping away your freedoms by design. Time to network and stand-up for your rights.

  • tax, We have a group of people, Congress, who want to dictate to us how we will live, what we will make, what we can buy, etc, etc, etc. I want everyone to remember, these people work for us. If they keep writting these stupid laws, we can assist them into a new line of work,,,Unemployment!

  • just so everyone knows this has been extended to not just toys but all children's clothes and toys. this means that until EVERY child book is inspected (including text books) by either the publisher or the owner of the books (schools and libraries included). those books will not be usable and will be considered contraband.

my local grade schools are considering closing for a day or longer starting feb 10th until all equipment is cleared to be used.

  • certainly easy to push your buttons--geez you've got some quality anger issues goin on.

    Settle down, go smoke a...

    cigarette.

  • could just one liberal post here defending this? Just one? I for one could not be happier. Democracy in action.

    Remember:

A government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take everything you've got.

At least the kid will be safe playing with bark.

  • I could not agree more! The health of our children is worth every penny. Greed and materialism have so jaded most of the people posting here that they think my message is that I have turned against this regulation. It is good to know there are a few other sane people left in this world.

  • you and I DO NOT agree. This regulation is bullshit. My view:

    Free-market capitalism:

put lead in a toy means you've got a shitty product that nobody would buy and you go out of business making room for the toy producers with value. No need to regulate it. The market does this all by itself.

  • Well, lead has been found in toy after toy. Do you get CPSC updates on recalls? I do and see high lead content in lines that have previously had recalls for lead content. These lines are still widely available and popular. So how exactly is the free market working? What about the economy?

  • tbjorlie, I don't think you understand what you are in for. Big government does not make anyone safer it makes you a slave. We have NOT had a "Free market" for over 100 years, so the economy is tanking because of regulation, lobbying, and bribery. these are all government traits and character flaws. They are not going to be like mommy and daddy and hold your hand to cross the street, maybe more like Uncle Billy Ray who wants some alone time.

  • lal-- laugh at liberals. It's so fun to watch them SUFFER, like the rest of us who've had to put up with their bossy, arrogant bullshit for so long. HAH!!! HAH!!!HAH!!! Go Broke Stupid Tiffany!

  • Why are you suffering? I am not. Money is made up, health is not. I am also still supporting this legislation, sure I wish it were written differently, but if this is the only way to make children's products safer so be it. I hope you find happiness in the world, I can tell you it is not through money.

  • "There outta be a law"...

    "Its for the children"...

Probably the most dangerous things you can think or say.

  • It is funny how the Big Government types become Libertarians when it impacts them.

  • Oh how I would LOVE to be Libertarian! That would mean we lived in a perfect world where everyone did the right thing, maybeone day we will get there. I hope so. Until then I will not hold my breath and will be thankful for legislation like the CPSIA for making the world a little safer.

  • Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say that there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

    - Frank Zappa

  • Doesn't get much more clueless than Tiffany Bjorlie. "At first I was for more regulation until I switched my brain back on..."

  • Actually, it was the natural toy industry that vocalized the need for protective legislation for our children after the lead-laden toy nightmare of 2006- 2007. The legislation was crafted and written and passed and lo and behold, it is the natural toy industry who will end up paying for the misdeeds of the big importers. Many will have to close their businesses due to the high cost of testing. The big boys will absorb it and once again, the little guys will pay.

  • Yeah, they wanted protection so long as THEY did not have to pay...sorry, just because you slap "organic" on something doesn't mean it's instantly safe (ecoli is organic). And they are not going to change the rule because the greenies' little world has to learn sacrifice. They are whining over what they wished for. Too bad.

  • No, I still want protection and I do not mind paying. What are you children worth? I would say everything as health and life is real everything else is just made up. Love, life, and health is all we really need everything else just gets in the way.

  • ***collective eye roll***

  • Do you have kids? Have you had there lead levels tested? Do you care?

  • I'm not really sure why you thought the regulations would not affect you? 'Natural' automatically means safe and the government is just supposed to take your word for it? If your a liberal toy maker it doesn't apply to you?

  • By no means am I trusting of something just because someone says it is "natural" I am all for testing and if this is the only way to get it done that is fine by me. The only reason Lundeby's Eco Baby is around is to inspire parents to think a little more about the products which we bring into our households everyday and given them some options that have been well thought out. I actually wish more substance were regulated. I would love to go out of business a a cause of our children being safer.

  • Don't blame this on anyone but yourselves liberals. These are the unintended consequences of more regulations. You think that was bad, just wait for the enviro regulations that are the next round of needless government intervention. Keep that in mind the next time you bitch about the cost of gasoline, or the heating and electric bills that will triple.

  • Personally, I would rather be poor and able to breath and see autism and asthma rates decline. What about you?

  • The stupidity of Tiffany represents the stupidity of most all liberals. They are always FOR something unless it effects them. In the case of Tiffany, she was too stupid to realize that just because SHE "feels" something is safe ("organic" label) doesn't meant s#it!

    Idiot!

  • Hmmm that is funny considering I am still for the CPSIA. Also, if you knew me you would realize that I don't trust anything without independent, third-party certification. There is a lot of deception in the world and you can't take anything at face value.

  • Your words: "The natural organic products that would be illegal if they weren't doing the testing, which is just ridiculous"

Also you mentioned another company that conforms to standards shouldn't be tested.

You can't have it both ways. Just because you like/trust/adore a company and what it SAYS it's doing for safety, doesn't mean they're excluded from the laws you advocate.

The law is either applied at the front or back end. Choose.

    Again, your naivety is astounding.

  • Time for another revolution. Yes, it will be televised.

  • Its about damn time we took the country back. Ill keep my guns and freedom you can keep the change.

  • Thank you Democrats and Bush. On the brighter side, there may be changes to the rule to save the charity, ebay, and thrift store markets. The gubmint heard the people and actually had a lucid moment.

Too bad their minds are completely lost to the greed what is Obamas and the Liberals New New Deal. The handmade toys may be saved, but the economy will sustain such irreparable damage from teh coming "stimulus" no one will be buying. Thanks again Democrats, PEBO and Bush.

  • Wow. Trashing liberals AND Bush. Congratulations. I'm just all *blink*.

  • One does not need to be congratulated if you are liberty minded. The Liberals and the Neoconservative movement are one in the same with a few minor details, and not the philosophy of true Conservatives or Libertarians who advocate liberty, freedom and adherence to the Constitution and founding documents.

  • Libertarianism is great in a perfect world. Look around you, we live in a world in which greed pervades. Sure maybe you will do the right thing, but time has come to show that not everyone does and when that greedy person sees a loophole through it they go and the rest of us suffer.

  • You've simply exchanged the "greed" (as you call it) of the citizen for greed AND power of a massive centralized government.

Historically this has played out the same way, each and every time. The justification for massive, corrupt, all powerful government is the very reasoning you mentioned.

Everything old is new again. I hope you enjoy the soft tyranny and the new New Deal.

  • HOW'S THAT GOVERNMENT REGULATION WORKING OUT FOR YA! Again, even good intentions backfire and they have been for a long time. I can hear it now. "We only wanted some regulation...Like, for corporations, education, housing, stock market, airlines, farming, etc. etc. etc." Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it good and hard. Instead, why don't people learn about freedom, liberty, and free markets. Free people don't need regulation, we need to be responsible and uphold the fraud laws.

  • Idiots... We will all get exactly that for which we are paying. Welcome to the land of the Useless Sheep and Assholes.

  • Big brother spreads his big arms again. Good luck counting on him to do anything other than pat his big buddies on the back.

  • Correction: That law has some INTENTIONAL consequences!

  • Amazing. What is going on in USA today? Time to do SOMETHING!

  • This law is ridiculous. American home crafters make the safest things on the planet. This should only apply to big corporations.

  • "this should only apply to big corporations"???

ah yes, the evil corporations. Sorry lib dude, you asked for it, you've got it. Suck it up.

When they came for the smokers, you didn't say anything, when they came for the trans-fat eaters, you didn't say anything. Then they came for the toy makers and there was no one left to speak up...

  • Most definitely not it should apply to EVERYONE as the market has proved itself untrustworthy.

  • really I am not complaining, the news wanted to know what was going on so I told them, but I am very much for this legislation applying to everyone as long as there is a positive effect on the health of children.

  • Since there hasn't been a wave of lead poisoned American made toys this seems silly.

  • you are for the legislation "as long as there is a positive effect on the health of the children"??

how positive of an effect is it when regulations such as this shut down perfectly fine retailers and producers that happen to depend on selling their products in order to feed their children?

are you supporting children going hungry at night because mommy and daddy are unemployed? Not to mention risk losing their health insurance. Would those be positive or negative effects?

  • Remember, regulations only harm the innocent.
