  • If kids are so impatient, then how on earth did we use to beat these games with all that grinding?

  • the memories.... I used to level up the same way in the beginning

  • This is the best nes game and i still play it on the homebrew channel

  • Wtf this game stole the best name I've ever made up.

  • @zecroshac well you didnt make it up then did you dumb ass

  • @kenmabie Well, I thought I did, and don't be such a shitbag. You'll never make friends that way. But I'll go easy on you, bro. I've had a rough week.

  • @zecroshac wahh

  • Crystalis is the 2nd best overhead view adventure game on the NES, i'll give you 1 guess as to what the first best is.

  • @HelloFade2

    StarTropics?

  • @321cheeseman Well that's a darn good game too but i was thinking of Zelda

  • @321cheeseman damn! i forgot all about that game. thanks for the reminder lol

  • @HelloFade2 Metal Gear? lol

  • If I made a crystalis inspired game (can't legally call it a sequel lol) - would you play it? Would you pay 5 dollars for it? Thumbs up if you would, whats the demand for another crystalis-style game???

  • I beat this game when I was a 10 year old girl /flex. :)

  • @Jademoff16 tits or gtfo

  • ahhhh memories.... this my first RPG and one of the best games ever made!

  • too fast

  • I love that Wild Fields music! That's been stuck in my head for, like, 20 years. XD

  • @IggyHazard lol I came here to find the music you were using in your videos. hahaha I know what you mean man all I do is listen to classic VG music from my childhood. For me it's a little more recent. Shit like Super Mario RPG, Mario Kart, Mario 64, Zelda, Donkey Kong, FF3US, FFV, Golden Sun :D

  • @BCt0xiN Iggy is a bad (?) influence! XD

Doesn't the premise of this game remind you of the Fallout games in some ways?

  • oh man! i so wanted to read the story at the beginning and jam to the bombass music!

  • Wow. That really takes me back. I havnt seen it in so many years. I dont rember it being so ugly. Damn PS3 You scary!!

  • @Louied420

Yeah many times i have that as well, seeing back games then notice it never really looks as great in real as in your head:p

Still retro got its own charm ^_^

  • i have this game and i love this video game and finish this with ending.

  • This is NOT a walkthrough. Nothing is explained, the text is skipped so fast that you can't read it. It's a speedrun. I'm not complaining, as it's very impressive and large stretches of it are fun to watch (and warrant a thumbs-up from me)... but it's not a walkthrough.

  • @IgnatzKolisch

all hail the syntax nazi... we salute you with a cock to the face

  • OK the NES version was better But the GBC had wayy off better bgm :D

  • I remember playing this game when I was like 4 years old. lol I only remember going to the old man in the cave and roaming around. XD

They seriously need to have this game for download on the Wii's Virtual Console.

  • Have you yet had the misfortune of spending money on the GBC version?

  • @Novetrix

why was it bad? i didnt even know they made a gbc version, if its not reaaaaally bad i might grab it if i can find it

  • @kenmabie well, it's not HORRIBLE, but... They completely altered the storyline and (as far as I could tell) a few levels got messed up. The game didn't change all too much, but whatever storyline the game had, they f'ed it all up. Music apparently sucks too.

  • @Novetrix

... dont know how to respone dont know if i should buy... no to conflicted... well thank oldskool hackers and priates of the chip that i have roms and emulators!

  • The only thing worse then grinding in this game watching someone else grind. That said, this will always be one of my all time favorites.

  • I remeber this game, this was like my first RPG when I was like 3 lol. I couldn't get far though XD. Nintendo seriously needs to release this on the Virtual Console.

  • I never played this game.. it looks like Zelda on crack

  • best game ever made, hands down

  • Only game better than FF and Zelda for NES. Its kinda like a primitive Diablo

  • the music is cool

  • This looks like a really interesting action rpg. It's pretty detailed for an NES game.

  • I went to Look up Zelda for NES and i saw this. I remember the Cover. I played this when i was about 3 or 4 and didn't even know what i was doing. I didn't know how to read at the time.

  • Fellow fans of crystalis hear me. These sites I have post are retro gaming sites. Those who don't own a nintendo or emulator go to these sites to play Nintendo Crystalis and even GBC Crystalis for free. Please visit these sites and enjoy playing crystalis "on the go"

    :) virtualnes . com nintendo8 . com retrouprising . com 1980-games . com vizzed . com everyvideogame . com nesgamezone . com playnesflashgames . com

  • I'm a girl, and this was my first RPG, thank you. :-P

Taught me patience with the levelling. haha

  • Crystalis was my first RPG. Then came Willow. I truly want this game to be released on the Virtual Console for Wii. The GBC version of the game really pissed me off. The music sucked and they changed the appearance of some of the levels. Destroy the the F-ing story. Why didn't Nintendo do this to any of the mario remakes for handhelds. Why isn't it on virtual console yet. I think nintendo doesn't like the game because it was better than zelda. compare GBC zelda to GBC Crystalis. Hear the music!!

  • I just hope SNK Playmore has rights or ownership of the title. In Japan it's called God Slayer: Haruka Tenkū no Sonata ( Sonata of the Far-Away Sky). i wonder why this game isn't as famous as Final Fantasy. i think it's a conspiracy. The game was way ahead of its time. Also dudes who like this game try "Athena" for Nintendo I liked this game as well. I wonder if any girls like this game. Shin Nihon Kikaku (SNK) Playmore you Rule!!!!

  • Love this game!

  • Time to dust off the old NES. :)

  • Horrible graphics, but old games were so additives and fun. I miss old time...Stop putting so much energies on graphs

  • @MalistrixXx LOL your the one who just put "Horrible graphics" Then your saying to not worry about them?

  • For an NES game this is really good. Go play the first Dragon Warrior then complain about bad graphics. :P

  • old game but honestly i really love this game ive sacrifice 1 whole yr just to finish this game.,,im stuck many places here

  • One of my first exposures to the RPG genre was this game. Ah, fond fond memories. Loved this game.

  • WOLFY? :O

    We

    Only

    Live

    For

    Yogurt

  • I recently found this in a box of old NES games I had. I immediately fell in love with this. It's like SNK's version of Zelda. But oh well. Is there a sequel?

  • hoe do u get that guy at the house up there to the north

    im stuck on this part

  • great great great game for NES

  • Prolly the best rpg on nes..Willow was also a great one..

  • The boss battle music sounded so epic and amazing way back when I first played this game...

The soundtrack is still good by NES standards, though. I wonder if there was ever an arranged soundtrack for this game? Sometimes in Japan they'd release soundtracks played with real instruments etc for sale.

  • Good video.

Still, this is more of a "playthrough" than a "walkthrough".

  • this really was my favorite game on the nes. I still have it, and still play it. I remember back when i was growing up, this game was actually really hard. (plus they made a copy of it on the game boy with perfect details.)

  • I love this game, i remembered that i had packed it away for a year or so back in 1995 and it still had my saved file. I had gotten frustrated having to level up and didn't bother playing it. When i started playing it was epic and than one day when i was putting it into my nes...my file was gone...i was devastated hahaha

  • i have this game for Gameboy Color. its so fun, its my favourite game

  • Hi, I know I could watch the vid but I just have a quick question: What am I supposed to do when I reach the poisonous forest and can only go to a village with people who wont talk to me OR fight that ninja guru to the north who is Impossible to beat. Thanks.

  • you have to talk to the ninja guru to the north and beat him to get a spell to talk to the people in oak village. to beat that guy, you'll either need a controller with turbo, or you'll need to level up some more.

  • yeah I figured it out eventually, but thanks anyway :)

  • Neither really. You ju8st have to battle him 3 times. He gets weaker and slower each time.

  • If memory serves me correctly try to talk to everyone in that villiage as I think one person talks to you, and then go back to the forrest, and you will find a lost vilager, return him; and then you can move forward with the quest.

  • ah I'm past that bit now, I had to level grind a bit more. Thanks though.

  • Yeah, one of the only things that was annoying was leveling up or you couldn't harm the enemies. In a similar game, Soul Blazer for SNES, you leveled up as you went along (there were only a set number of enemies and "portals" to close) which was great!

  • FUCK, I use to love this game! It still holds up to the test of time. I'd give anything for a new/sealed copy of this game.

  • You have a computer with internet. Get a emulator and download the game.

  • no dude, I allready have an original copy, and the rom/emulator. But as one of my favorite games of ALL TIME, I'd love to have a new/sealed copy :-)

  • You mean like a new copy with that new smell (lol) to mount up on a trophy case?

  • i just bought it, looks cool but my crappy gba screen is buttfucked with scratches from when i was little.

god i still remember 90% of the time useing a gba was getting the light on the screen to fucking see it.

  • If this game (not that crappy GBC remake) comes to the VC, I am so getting it!

  • @StarFighters76 I like the game boy color game thank you very much. Then again I never played the NES version.

  • @MrInsanity25 Play the NES version. It is FAR superior than the GBC version. Better music, better graphics (sorta speak), the story makes way better sense. NES Version is just perfect.

  • @StarFighters76 Oh. Well, I'm stuck oon Crystalis right now. I can't find the guy with the fog lamp. The only two places of interest are where the 2 people are stone and the cave that 'm pretty sure requires the rental boat with the guy in it that says you're not welcome and tells you to leave.

  • @MrInsanity25 Go to GameFAQs.com, there's a walkthrough I wrote for the game and some ASCII maps as well. Use those to answer your questions.

  • @StarFighters76 Thank :D

  • whats being used to take this video? i wanna show people how i do certain things on the cpu, but when i put my cam to the screen theres lines across it.. i need some screen shot software

  • Emulator.

  • Crystalis and Faxanadu are my favorite NES games.

  • This game had some weird trigger scripts, especially around the portoa queen and fortune teller; still an awesome game though.

  • Thanks for the video

  • first rpg

  • Has anyone played contra 1?it brings memories when i pwnt the last boss..

  • this brings back some memories i remember growin up playin this now i cant get past where yiu blow that generator thing up and my NES messes up and starts flashin orange and black cause its older than i am

  • This and Destiny of an Emperor were two of my favorite games for the NES. Thank you very much for posting this and bringing back some fond memories.

I remember being so thrilled when NESticle was released and I could finally play this game again, only to find out they hadn't quite worked out the bugs with the sound. The music was so great, and the story captivated me. This game greatly resembles Seiken Densetsu as well (Secret of Mana).

  • this was one of the best NES games by far

  • Does anyone else besides me thought they should have made a sequel to this game?

I sure wish they did because this game was awsom with an awsome story line.

  • Absolutely. There were a lot of memorable points in that game that have stuck with me for many years, despite not playing the game since the early 1990s. They should put out a sequel or prequel on all next-gen systems.

  • Agree, I enjoyed this game many years it was truly one of the best of it's time, it is still fun to play.

  • if they do make it i hope they put some great graphics

  • Absolutely my favourite.. That music! Perhaps even better dan the first Zelda's..

  • Nice job in doing this speed run. I, on the other hand, wouldn't do this in 2 hours, even I am not that good. The quickest that I have ever passed the game, in all the times that I have passed this game, I have passed it in 5 hours. You just got to fight and enjoy yourself when playing this game or any game for that matter. To you, playing this game must be like a chore, since you are giving this walkthrough.

  • And I agree it is really unfortuanate how good games like this among others are underrated! It fact I'm quite sure this was the very first rpg I ever played! It was either this or Final Fantasy 6 which is another great game!

  • I used to have this game it was awesome but my mom got rid of my NES when she sold it at a Garage sale! I was fuckin pissed! But I still love my mom and I heard their is a Gameboy advance version of this game. Well at least I can look forward to that.

  • Game Boy COLOR.

  • It's Gameboy Color and it's pretty horrible... the view is too close, they changed up the story, and worst of all, they changed all the music to shit. I'd stick with an the original or at least an emulated version of the original.

  • wolfy...lol

  • nvm i got it

  • how do you use the rabbit shoes? it's not working for me and yes i am playing this game still but it's been years i can't use those damn boots

  • Had that same problem too, but I figured out to have the boots on with no magic selected. It should work.

  • Anyone notice that this game did not lock movement when attacking/stabbing? Huge achievement for an Nes game.

The only times he had to stop were to use items/magic or charge up his sword shot.

The sword stabs did not even have delay lock, you could stab as fast as you can press the attack button - awesomeness.

  • Ah, grinding was around long before WoW!

  • As with many RPGs, especially older ones, the grinding was the biggest flaw. Other than that, this game is nearly perfect for its time. I fell in love with it immediately. Drastically underrated, though in the last 5 years or so it has actually become more famous than ever. Magnificent. Had the first sad scene I ever remember in a game (the wiped out good guy hideout and its music)

  • i've never minded grinding in older games

  • They remade this on Game Boy Color but I, being the retard I am, lost it...*sigh*

  • the game boy remake was pretty crappy

  • this is my favorite game ever! it's unfortunate how underrated this game is!

  • Long life Crystalis and its dolphin.

The best game that no one played, even more than River City Ransom

  • long life the town of Leaf

  • This game is great

  • This is a game that has to be on the Wii.

  • Best game ever made.

  • Hi my firend.

    This is a great game!

    Thank you for uploading!

    See ya =D

  • I always loved this game. The music is awesome.

  • This is one of the best games EVER! This is a REALLY MASTERPIECE! i don't undestand why don't come out for the Snes. Ah! maybe because an unknow game, will displace zelda and others rpg's zelda is very good, but crystalis is beter.

  • Wow -- this brings back some memories. My first RPG (even before Zelda) Good job. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Best RPG of all time.

  • Yeah you're right man. this a Unique Masterpiece!

  • I use to round up mobs and then charge kill all of them in a row, zone and enter to do it again.

  • omg i did that too! this game is the best. Just hearing the music brings back so many memories!

  • can anyone help me?

Does anyone remember a RPG / action scroller from NES, that was almost in a greece type setting. I remember at one point there was a weird guy made out of rocks or something in the game.

I can't really remember it was from so long ago.

  • I Found it!! : Battle of Olympus

  • In the beginning of this video when your fighting the tiger monsters you don't have to enter and go back out again for the monsters to respawn just go out of the frame area of where the monster is located and another one appears it saves alot of time. Other than that great video.

  • Omfg, how do you remember the passages so well? I'll spend half an hour trying to get through one cave!! DX

  • Wow, you play almost SCARILY similar to the way I do... O.o

  • Dude, you're my hero! I loved this game! :) And when Stom died? Wow!

  • this game owns i plauyed it ever since i was 5 and i still do, but my NES will not save games nemore since its so old :(

  • Lol my nes wouldnt save this game if you took it out of the console. Also, I had to be extremely careful while playing because if you happen to bump the nes (more like tap it ever so slightly) while playing, it would freeze up!

  • I belive SNK first rpg ever made. correct me guys if I am wrong.

  • did u know if u plug in 2 nes controllers u can hold down A and B on the frist controller and then press A on the second controller or something like that and teleport all wrond the world!

  • MY FAVORITE GAME

  • i just remember the final boss being extremely easy

  • this guys good. took me days as a kid. good to know how you beat the last guy!

  • I wish they would continue making games like Crystalis. This is such a classic.

  • oh, i love that dolphin... every time you exit an area he says 'take care', hehe.

  • i was 5 when i played this, still love it to death.

  • my god, thanks to everyone posting these old school vids. Brings back many good memories of playing this when i was a wee one.

  • This is one of the best games ever made.

  • damn makes me feel like a ass spending the first 20 mins getting the shield and some lvl up thats for sure

  • This game hold so much sentimental value for me. It was the first game I got for Xmas, one of the first RPGs I ever played, one of the first games I ever got through (with the help of the Game Genie). I love the music in this game. I really want to go back and play it. In fact, I think I'll hook up the ol' NES and do just that.

  • I love this game I used to play it ten or so years ago and I still find myself playing it. I always sucked and had to use a game genie.

  • Crystalis is right up there with the best NES games like Mario and Zelda. What is it about these games that makes you, dare I say, "emotionally involved" whereas most FPSers completely dull you out?

I'm sure these games are a lot better for you. Probably the reason kids are all tense and trigger-happy these days is cuz they're playing counterstrike, postal etc. all night..

  • the first game I ever played!

i didn't think any one would have a video I was just serching for random stuff!

  • i love your videos. how many times did you have to play through this to get this good? how many times metal gear? just curious i wanna know how bad i suck lol.
