That is absolutely gorgeous. What a stunning piece of flying, in the second best jetliner ever built (after the 707 of course). Thank you so much for posting.
maybe it DID take off at the right time and you just didnt know that that was the time that it would take off and you were a bit shocked that it took off right then even when you should have expected it.
Damn! Imagine, off the runway, throttles firewalled, packs off screaming down the runway, keeping the bird level to build up E, then retracting the flap & gear then pulling a manevoure like that, unreal!
And the scary part is, that was a high alt takeoff, ferrari of the skies!
@wr1830 It is an old design, but with the planned engine upgrade to current designs it could have still been viable. But with the old JT-8, yeah, even the uprated United airlines engines, they were still too noisy. It's just a plane from a different age, designs have improves such and they've been out of production for long enough that keeping old stuff like that going just doesn't make sense. They're still used in various countries though, and both passenger and freight.

What a crazy maneuver for a 727... But really, what a beauty! IMO, it's falls in second place behind the Concorde for aircraft sexiness!

If you need to do something outrageous with a commercial aircraft the seven-two is the plane for the job. What a great machine.

Especially an empty one! That thing was probably 80,000 pounds under gross weight. What a demon. I love it.

The B727... to this day, the sports car of commercial airliners.
chronos624 3 years ago 6
@chronos624 bullcrap, it is a underpowered airliner with antiquated, polluting engines. Glad the B727 has been retired from most airlines.

Then again... Maybe not. :-)

Keep it in tight over the airport untill you have altitude. Good idea if there are hostile forces nearby.

I took off once in a 727 from an airport with a somewhat short runway. Holy cow I really got pressed back into the seat quite a bit.

After seeing that jet takeoff like that i can understand why . The 727 was a agile jet. and quite manuverable as well
