@darklordlucas i assume your talking about avatar stealing the story from pocahontas. ok if JC (james cameron) did steal it who cares because disney did it first and james cameron did it better.
Plot inspired from "Dances with wolves" but sitll both movies are great! Except in this movie the natives kicked the invaders arses *that's what makes it even better) ! Honour goes to those who defend! Catharsis...
@valcan321 So you mean the Native americans , like the cherokees or the other tribes that were litterally slaughtered were actually rapists and slave traders? cause when I say defenders I mean those who face extinction and die trying to defend their rights and their beliefs! Come on man... think about it for a sec! u can't be asking this question!
@Gnomeliminator The cherokee's did have slaves as much as others. Blacks for example owned other blacks...yet this is never dicussed is it?
The apache and other like them were little more than barbarians. A good way to think of them is like Huns without the time to get organized or the tech. And yes others.
But no i am all for those who fight to the death as long as they dont go into those above categories. Reality isnt black and white or grey...it is.
@pilvy91 Plot was regular, actors was regular just badget and movie effects was great. Without them it is just regular, nothing original movie. This concept was used in x movies.
@pilvy91 The story was nearly entirely ripped from pocahontas. A movie that does that does not deserve a title like that. Besides, if you say century, do you mean that for 90 years there will not be a better movie?? The CGI was nice though, but in afew years something better will be available.
@pyroneph Well, not really. People come to another new place, they wreck it up, the natives fight back, and the main character helps him and does it with the native female. No similarities at all. Setting is entirely different, but the story progression is nearly exactly the same. Also the na'vi are kinda like native americans, with their spiritual thingy, and not using technology.
So, as far as the most general version of the story, I'll admit Pocahontas and avatar are similar. However, I doubt the Avatar copied Pocahontas anymore than Harry Potter copied Star wars.
These movies are really all based upon some basic emotions illicited by injustice, love, and triumph.(That's all they have in common)
I think that both Avatar and Pocahontas were both trying to bring about similar emotions, and went about it in a VAGUELY similar way.
@pyroneph Well, you can always type a second one. But really, the story progression is about the same, and you can't say that with Harry Potter and Star wars (series are not likely to be similar, they usually find their own path). And really, besides the time period the movies are set in, i can find more similarities between the movies than things that are different. It's not emotion i meant, i meant progression. Human arrives on place, meets natives, learns from them, has to choose, etcetera.
@Darklordlucas It's the same, meng! Imagine Harry Potter running around with dual light sabers from Greevus, and Greevus running around with 4 wands yelling ,,AVADA KEDAVRAH''.... I still can't imagine Hermione trying to shove a light saber up her ass cause she thinks it's just another shinny dildo. TROLOLOL
@Darklordlucas Most people were sick of the concept of aliens being technologically superior to humans, so this was a good twist because you never know when it's still the stone age, ice age or dark ages on another planet.
@Darklordlucas yeah yeah we know that... but seriously, how many times have we seen the typical "aliens invade earth-the us saves earth in a matter of days"- story throughout the last decades?
@Creaturelover18 That's true, but it's no excuse for copying. There's plenty of different stories imaginable. And besides, don't forget aliens involve Sci-fi. So either humans have to have superior technology to what we have now (else we can't go into space) or the aliens have to. And war with aliens makes a nice movie.
@Darklordlucas Exaclty... To you all, it's okay as long as sci-fi films copy eachother over and over and over, and that gets incredibly tedious... Mixing a certain genre with another is part of being creative, something you all should understand
@Creaturelover18 I honestly don't like any copying. A remake sure, but with dignity and reference to the original work. But Avatar wasn't mixing, it was replacing a story in space and than changing COMPLETELY nothing. Same message, same characters, same development. And that's not "being creative".

Oh, yes...giant-telepathic blue-skinned aliens fighting an evil corporation bent on taking an entire planet's natural resources...
The similarities with Pocahontas are undeniable ;)
I'm sure several million people would agree with me on the point that this movie was considerably more than just 'Pocahontas in space'

Look up 'Harry Potter Star Wars'. Basically, both of those movies have the same story progression.
I Understand your point, but I still think Avatar is to Pocahontas as Harry Potter is to Star Wars.
