@RadicalAwesomeness David Irving gets a bad rap, as do a lot of historians who hold sympathetic views of some aspects of Nazi Germany. No one regime is ever ALL bad. There were some things to admire about Nazi Germany such as the building of the autobahns and advances in aerospace technology. Of course, the bad overwhelmingly outweighs the good, but it is wise to excercise some level of objectivity. I find Irving's work, that not related to the holocaust, to be accuate and well researched.

A very sad and unfair end. What was his crime? @RadicalAwesomeness David Irving gets a bad rap, as do a lot of historians who hold sympathetic views of some aspects of Nazi Germany. No one regime is ever ALL bad. There were some things to admire about Nazi Germany such as the building of the autobahns and advances in aerospace technology. Of course, the bad overwhelmingly outweighs the good, but it is wise to excercise some level of objectivity. I find Irving's work, that not related to the holocaust, to be accuate and well researched.

@GreekForTruth1 I disagree with your anti-Semitic views, but I will back you up on your support of David Irving. Irving is far more objective in his treatment of Nazi Germany than someone like Hugh Trevor Roper. Trevor Roper is one of the most highly respected historians in regard to Nazi Germany, yet, I find his views to be highly colored and, in some cases, bordering on offensive; however, because of his hatred of the Nazis and the German people he is elevated a higher level than he deserves.

Particularly American hypocrisy during Nuremberg is baffling, especially with Hess. He essentially was convicted for the Nuremberg laws, however the difference between these anti-Jewish laws and the discrimination against Blacks in America was very little. He had left Germany before the holocaust and had tried to broker a peace treaty.

The Nuremberg show trials, the atom bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the totalitarian de-nazification process after the war say a lot about who were the bad guys during WW2. Hitler is portrayed as an evil mass murdering monster, but when you analyse the evidence for that claim you realise lot of it is just hot air and hypocricy.

Their bombs at Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people in a very short time while neither was really necessary to win the war. And if we know neither the US nor the Soviets had any moral authority, how can we trust anything they've told us about Hitler? Was he really a monster or is that just propaganda? I did quite a lot of research in that area and IMO the good guys lost WW2.

@OutOfTheBoxThinker Well, personally I think I would have been tempted to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, after the experience of Iwo Jima it was obvious that the Japanese would fight tooth and nail, the Allies estimated it would cost 1,000,000 British and American soldiers to conquer Japan, and the civilian deaths would probably have been many times that caused by dropping nukes as they had armed every man woman and child and they were fanatical, they would all have resisted.

@DukeofWellington91 : Japan was already losing the war when they dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I highly doubt they were necessary, regardless of what allied sources "estimated". They weren't exactly objective at the time.
But let's just ignore those for now and focus on Dresden. The death toll estimates at Dresden vary from 25 000 to 250 000, but those who died - mostly civilians - die in the most horrible way imaginable : consumed by firestorms while alive. For what, really?!

@OutOfTheBoxThinker I also think that to say Hitler was the good guy, you really can't argue that with any sincerity, the man gassed 10 million people, women and children, you are not going to get anywhere with beliefs like that. However I think there is a debate to be had over the guilt of certain Nazis, and if not their guilt, then the right of countries such as the USSR and USA of 1945 to pass judgement on them.

A lot of the attrocities attributed to Hitler are really nothing but wartime propaganda that was largely forgotten after the Nuremberg trials but picked up by Zionist propagandists in the '60s again to increase support for their poor treatment of the Palestinians.
