I agree with soundnicetome. Profit for profits sake is obscene and favours the few while benefits to the community as a whole are overlooked. There really ought to be an impartial monitoring body with powers to curtail what is quite frankly greed.
Along with hundreds of other stations our once beloved steam railway has slowly disappeared.Its demise and the undue hast of closing so many worthwhile stations was folly. So many beautiful routes gone just for one thing`PROFIT`....very sad.
I travelled on this line a number of times when I was a child, The lewknor station or "shack" is at 2.16. On the other side of the track behind the fencing were beehives and behind the station was the chalk pit complete with wrecks of old cars. We used to travel to Princes Risborough where my dad had relatives and also to connect with the train to London. I'm sure that although this was the last passenger train, goods trains ran for the next few years. Wonderful video.
Extraordinary that I lived near this line, but never knew of its existence until I helped my dad on the 1961 census.
It's unfortunate that the section beyond Aston Rowant was severed by the M40 and has, for much of its length, completely disappeared. Watlington would have made an ideal terminus for a preserved line, and Aston Rowant was attractive as a films locations.
Strangely, there is a model available of Aston Rowant station, it's a card kit, but it is a most attractive building.
