  • had a 2001 9-5, saved me AND my buddy's life when we were hit side on by a Dodge Caravan going 40 mph

  • How Fast !?

  • @Rockmerocku 40 MPH (64 KPH)

  • how fast was the car going-60mph (or 96kph)?

  • @HenzQh

    :)

  • Safest cars in Sweden according to Folksam.se insurance 2008:

    1. Toyota Avensis

    2. Saab 9-5

    3. Saab 9-3

  • @Beatles5 Note: the statistics is taken from real car accidents.

  • Looks like a very good score, i guess!

Any thougts about the speed of this crash?

(Drive a Saab 90 from 1984, wonder how safe that one is... They say it is "strong as a tank").

  • I have crashed pretty violent with a 9-5 and i can only say this.... if i had not been driving a 9-5 , i would most likely be dead today

  • German makes safer cars. :)

  • @SMB67T Saab is Swedish! and this particular model uses the Lancia Dedra or Opel Signum platform it is a very durable car ...

  • @215alessio

Yeah I know, but German makes safer cars, such as Mercedes, BMW.. etc.

  • @SMB67T

LOL I guess you follow too much commercials

go on a junkyard then you see how a BMW looks like after a crash . If it isn't the blow that kills you the steering shaft will crush your chest after it penetrates the drivers cabin.

I am not talking about Ncap, but real situations,

  • @215alessio

lol I don't watch any German Car's Commercial, or even any car brand's commercial. I just watch the Mercedes and BMW or any other German Car's Crash Test. And I think they are better. Maybe that's your opinion, but my opinion is, Maybe Swedish car is good but I love German Car's to Swedish Car. Thanks

  • at 1:00 it looks like a real guy with a mask on

  • Volvo is a ***** star safety and greater security of straight beats. But Saab is a ***** safety and a little more durable iron.

I'm talking about the 1998 - 2004 Saab and Volvo models.

But what I can tell, both cars are the stars ***** I really like them safety, comfort and appearance.

    SUPER!

    Klausīties

    Lasīt latīņu burtiem

  • Having been in a head on crash in a saab 9-5 1999, I can safely say it is one of the safest around. No bull it saved my life.

  • active headrestraints =)

  • EXCELLENT CAR

    MERCI !!

  • love this car safe too

  • push button? even Liaz MT in 80s had it...lol and many many other cars and trucks back in history

  • The only safe way to crash with a volvo is when you sit in a SAAB.

  • @hadabenz Or a Volvo. :)

  • Swedish safety!

  • a bedda macchina nova!

  • Btw.. bye bye Saab. We'll miss ya.

  • Notice the driver side view mirror, it survives somehow perfectly and puts itself back in place after wards, lol

  • haha thats hilarious!

  • i got a '99 9-5 a few months ago with 73k and only paid $4000 in perfect condition, great car!!

  • Early 9-5s are really cheap now (<$4000 for <100k miles). I'm so getting one for my first car.

  • I got an '03 ARC for my first car, only $10,000 (low miles), Great car, you'll love yours!

  • I Highly recommend you try to get an 04 or newer, if you must an older, opt for the V6, it has a lot less engine issues than the 4-cyl (and better performance)

  • @DJFG85 I know about the engine sludge problem with the early 9-5s. But I was figuring that if someone has one that's been able to run up to now, it probably had the engine fixed under warranty. Of course I'll ask the seller just in case. And anything over 4-cyl is pretty much out since my parents want to "keep me safe". =P

  • Don't tell your parents.....The four cylinder ones are faster than the 6!

  • @Deltaspeed93 That's why I like Saab, because a 4-cyl Saab doesn't mean crappy low-end engine.

  • really... howcum?

  • I am shure it has a lot to do with engine management...But I know if you put an OG 9-3 Viggen up against a 08 Turbo X "Even the manual" 9 times out of ten you will beat him! thats SAABs engine management vs possible GM. Oh yeah the OG 9-3s are lighter than the SS

  • Your all right, im getting a saab 95 in a few days, and as you say, it feels good to know that i will be driving a safe car. Not like my 2000 audi a4. Iv seen the crash test of it, its not good at all. Find out for yourself.

  • I have saab 9-5 it's nice to now that i drive safe car

  • not bad

  • Statisticly Saabs ARE THE SAFEST CARS IN THE WORLD. Stop that Volvo MYTH. Check with the Fatalities. SAABS ARE THE SAFEST

  • Many people say Volvo and many people say SAAB but one thing is for sure the safest is a Swedish car and the most dangerous is Chinese.

  • Very true but dont forget Mercedes-Benz, after all they pioneerd the Airbag, ESP, ABS, Curtain Airbags and a new thing is on its way.

  • @mercedesE320fan

    A new "thing" ?

Saab's are known for their safety. ESP by MB? You made me laughing! ABS by MB? First by Saab, from planes, then by BMW. Also, not true.

Airbag? Not true again. The first GERMAN car with airbag. That's it. They've got the idea. A lot of people got ides. If you can't it into action, you're not the pioneer !

Curtain Airbag are invented by Hyundai. Mercedes did nothing for safety at all. They have damn nice engines and failed with compressors. Turbo's inventor=Saab

  • Well you guys are arguing two very important car companies, both contributed greatly. Mercedes has much more financial capacity for research which allows it advance. Let's focus on how European cars (and Ford to an extent) are the innovators while shit Japan and Korea steal everything and credit themselves (Pre-Safe by MB was later "introduced" by Lexus as "Pre-Crash") who are they kidding?

  • DJFG85

Ford as innovators?HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Who are YOU kidding. The only thing Ford brought to the table was the production line to mass produce cars, pal. Lexus was the first to bring air purifier to clean the air inside the cabin and push the button to start engine.

  • I wouldn't really call push-button start an innovation. It's just a gimmick, nothing else. And besides, Lexus aren't the ones who invented it. Push-button start has probably been around since the first electric starters came around, wich would be like 90+ years ago?

  • We need proof and facts here buddy. Not "probably." The push button thing I saw first on Lexeech and now Bmw, Toyoda, and a few other cars have it now.

  • Some times, using common sense is enough...

    Try it.

  • Actually... the first car EVER that had a started button was Renault Laguna. Oh and if you will talk about inovations, the lets mention Mercedes shall we? What was the first car that had ABS? S class. ESP? S class. Air bags? S class. Xenon lights? S class. Navigation sistem? S class Infrared night view? S class again...you can go on forever.

And push starter button is a pure excuse for inovation.

  • @derbigpr500 My brother had a 1950 Dodge sedan with a factory installed

starter button.Maybe Marty Mcfly came back from the future and stuck it in there

    eh?

  • @aguafinatv ford were innovators with the model t, then it was downhill from there....

  • @beginmaster Haha the world doesen only excist of Sweden and china!!!

  • @beginmaster thats because there all cheap knock offs of other car companies :D. seriously, they take cars from other companies, put a new badge on them, cheaper parts and send them out the door. the reason why companies that are obviously being copied arent taking legal action is because its so damn funny to watch them fail so badly

  • @beginmaster they both are #1 and #2, and it doesn't matter which is first, they are both the 2 safest cars in the world

  • @beginmaster agreed

  • saab is a very good car

volvo is the safest car in the world

rolls-royce as well with its big heavy body kit and 7 star luxury and safety

  • the cabin stays inpackt!

  • It's amazing what is essentially an old design that the 9-5 can achieve a top 5 star euro NCAP rating. This shape was on Saab's drawing boards in 1995 and although having minor facelifts since its remained the same. Is it any wonder why Saab are in trouble?

  • I have both a volvo S80 sedan and a saab 95. They are both very safe cars but I have had a lot of issues with my volvo. I think they are wonderful cars it's been a real joy to drive. The volvo is more comfortable on long trips but my saab will get you there faster just use the turbo with caution.

  • Saabs are the best kept secret.. dont let a low used car price fool you ;)

  • These cars are worth more to own than a Chevy or a Ford... Just chech crash tests, fuel consumption (or whatever you call it) vs. weight and HP.. And the best thing is that they are cheap to buy.

  • Look this is a 2002 car if you look at volvo it is actually safer then saab. I looked on a program volvo v70 vs saab 9-5 hirsch volvo won

  • "Look this is a 2002 car if you look at volvo it is actually safer then saab. I looked on a program volvo v70 vs saab 9-5 hirsch volvo won"

This seems odd; why crash a factory tuned car?

If they're gonna crash it anyway, why go for the more expensive one?

Are you sure they compared the safety and not the power?

  • Actually the volvos safety is better and the power that why the volvo got better result. It's clearly!

  • The safety would maybe be *slightly* better in a Volvo V70 than a SAAB 9-5.

I know at least SAAB has a special "crash team" going out analyzing real collisions to further improve safety, Volvo might have something equivalent.

SAAB and Volvo are still far ahead of most manufactuers when it comes to safety, so whichever you choose you're still good.

  • Okey volvo is mutch expensiver then saab, i think that because volvos safer, better car, and that safety things cost mutch. SAAB is good, but volvos better right know. They have like world safest car. The experts are always making tests which is the best car for winter......Why is the volvo in first place and saab 3rd or 4th?

  • Because every now and then another brand happens to release a model that does well in the euro NCAP tests.

If you look at real crashes (not straght head-on into half of the hood), SAAB and Volvo is average 1st and 2nd.

My point being that SAAB and Volvo are about equal when it comes to safety, they keep dueling for 1st place in real life statistics.

Some other brands make their cars pass euro NCAP with 5 stars (by focusing on what NCAP test) in order to sell them as safe cars.

  • you should watch some more crash tests...

  • ive done it :)

  • volvo hasent got better score at safty...all saab cars have been like solid steel since the begining so stfu...

  • Okey is that why volvo got world's safest car? look at xc90,xc60,v70,s40,s80,c70 haha saab can't beat that. Volvo called TANKS because they are so heavy and strong. volvo is built of steel to :)then if you whant a family car youst pick a volvo

  • saabs are so safe that they were able to take the 9-5 (a platform thats over 14 years old) put in head and torso combination side air bag and get an accecptable

  • Also notice that the company Autoliv Electronics is from sweden from the begging.

    Sweden knows safety.

  • volvo is safer

  • Notice that Volvo and Saab are from Sweden, The are one of the safest cars

  • i totally angree whith you m8!!!

    go volvo!!

  • this car has a 5 star safty rating just saw it on topgear then!

  • My dad has a 9-5 wagon. I bet it is safe after watching this.

  • oh it's safe after watching this. before watching this it wasn't safe?

  • GM SUCKS!!!!

  • Yes, Saab is owned by GM. But it is a very safe car!

  • Im glad you feel that about gm`s saab because thats the way we saab owners like it UNDERSTATED,so keep telling people they are crap and we will continue to drive them with big grins on our face.

  • i dont know what GM did but SAAB should remain the top of car safety!

  • Volvo and saab are very very safety cars!

  • haha saab driver is dead!

  • haha saab driver walks away!

  • thats a damn safe car

  • saab the best car

  • alex get a life thats what i said to you but you did not understand it.

  • okay, okay, don't bite my head off

  • uys, the swedish insurance company review all car crashes each year (real ones that is) and the result is always great for SAAB, so congrat on a safe car

  • *looks

  • I have actually experienced a front end collision in my old Saab, bumper went into engine rather than engine going into cab crushing friends and I.

We didn't get hurt going over 40-50 mph. Still amazed over a decade later.

I have bought and still drive a Saab today.

  • alex from what i read you judge on what it looks like you idiot!!!!!!!

  • Well, no. I go to the EuroNCAP website and get ratings from there. Actually you sound like you judge cars' crashworthiness on how their front end lokks like.

  • That is very safe. Saab are good. I'd rate it an 8/10.

  • 10/10 why 8 its a 5/5

  • okie, dokie artichokie
