The student may have been taking a generally light attitude toward his committment to getting to school but I see no indication of mockery. I don't know if these depictions are based on fact so I just want to make a general statement that condescention is unlikely an effective attitude for a achieving a positive influence.

I don't think it was a good thing that the principal said "I have the final say and either you like it or you don't". The best principals don't take such attitudes. A big part of being a principal is interacting well with students in a meaningful manner--not constantly reminding them of who you are.
