There is a video on here someplace where the guy shoots from his tailgate with the muzzle right at the tail light. Needless to say, he needed a new tail light cover.
Always make sure everyone in the vicinity knows you're shooting a .50 BMG. The blast 45 degrees back from the muzzle brake will rearrange internal organs. Some guys think that's funny (b0b!)... but it's not. Stand directly behind the shooter.
I don't leave anything on the bench when I'm shooting my .50 BMG. It'll blast a .50 ammo box full of ammo (maybe 15 pounds?) off the bench. The guy who designed it told me that he shot the prototype of the hood of his truck in the winter while his business partner was inside the warm truck, and it dented in the windshield.
