watching this video it seems unbelievable that Ullrich never won a Tour against Armstrong. He seems so much stronger than Lance.

Is it just a coincidence that the only year Jan seriously challenged Armstrong was the year he wasn't riding for Telekom/T-Mobile?

Most of their teams were built around leading out Erik Zabel in the sprints.

Telekom/T-Mobile built their team mostly around Ullrich (e.g. 2000. 2001, 2004...) Zabel were given only one worker, if at all...

Nevertheless, I think Ullrich would've been much better in another team than Telekom/T-Mobile...

I think Ullrich and Cancellara competed against each other. Allright, al that time Cancellara was not yet at the pinaccle of his career. But he didn´t have a chance against Armstrong and Ullrich. It is difficult to say. Who is better. Mike Tyson or Ali? Pele or Messi? Each of them was the best of his time.

Funny to think that this was Ullrich's only stage win in LA's seven years of tour domination (five of which Ullrich rode in). Many second place finishes though.

The best ITT ever, no doubt about that!!!!!! In the same time with lance after 13

km, 40 seconds in front after 33.5 km,1 minute 09seconds after 41,5km And 1 minute 36 seconds at the end after 47km!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lance explosed at the end and if the TT done 55km for example, jan would have win this Tour!!!!! I always regret that!!!

Jan deserved the 2003 Tour de France, maybe the best Tour ever!!!!!!

It's difficult to say who deserved to win it, 3 drivers within 3 minutes. Crazy! Taking into account that Tyler Hamilton drove this tour with a broken shoulder you can say a fourth driver who also could have deserved it. Best Tour ever, I agree about that!

this time trial is just awesome!!

I always think that this was the only year when Lance won where we had extreme heat...so I think that if the stage to luz ardiden and the last time trail would ve been as hot as this day to cap découverte, Jan would have won the Tour!

nobody liked the heat as much as Jan did!

If the weather was "normal", like 20-25 degress, Lance would have won this tour with the usual 5-7 minutes...

Lance Armstrong suffered from dehydration those days. You can't see it that well in this footage, but he had a ring of salt around his mouth after he finished, he also rolls his tongue over his lips when he finishes because of the dehydration. Ullrich finally lost the Tour with 1.16.

Ullrich definitely had a cult following in the sates that year! It was a real shame he crashed in the TT in Nantes because he had a real shot at it. Ullrich had some bad luck with the team time trial among other things. He also got suspended for a year for taking Ecstacy, what a Boss!

i remember this time trial. It was the only time Ullrich clearly defeated armstrong but the american was more clever even though he was not as stronger as Jan in this Tour.

itis so clear that ullrich has got so much more power in his body than armstorng, more than anybody! armstrong just had better physiques. i don't know if ullrich trained at his max, but i am sure,nobody can beat the power coming from jan his body on a bike

"für deutschland" hat er sich sicher nicht den arsch aufgerissen. das war verdammt nochmal sein beruf und er hat mehr als gut verdient. da gibt es andere menschen auf der welt, die reissen sich tagtäglich wirklich den arsch auf - um ihre familie vorm verhungern zu bewahren zum beispiel. mit ulle braucht man da nun wirklich kein mitleid zu haben.
