And is it really necessary for her to say "How did it feel for you to have your penis inside a vagina?" I mean he knows what she's talking about there's no need to be so crude about it.
@666fannyfart after your experience, u seem to have adopted a curious name, lets analyse this: 666= satan & fannyfart = a stinky cloud of shit gas, This is how u see yourself now, "feminine & dirty & evil".
You mean the jug of water? I erupted with laughter at the reveal too. I then pictured a follow up cut-away where he'd be eating a cake, along with ever increasingly elaborate props revealed in further cut-backs
everyone ... all you naysayers against the way she is approaching him ... Pamela is acting the way she is - because is a close friend of Stephens... so it was a very personal chat for her too... her reactions were natural
She's a friend of his???? I wouldn't have expected that. She seems to be rather acting (than acting the way she is) the all-knowing (better than he himself), understanding one. I find her and her way of talking so unpleasant.
@Paulininja1 No big deal if you don't know this already, but she's the wife of Billy Connolly so I would imagine they would've connected at least a few times over the years.
I don't get the concept of this program at all, I think we're all in agreement.
It's like a regular interview with questions far cheekier than a normal interviewer would ever ever ask in the most insensitive abrupt and careless way possible. All under the guise of what? Helping him? Exposing him? I don't know! It reminds me of a fella on a bus who claims to be a gynecologist and starts asking the women inappropriate questions.
I cringe every time this woman speaks. The questions she asks, the way she asks them, it obvious what kind of answers she wants from him, even if it isn't what he's trying to say! It sounds like she wants to tell his story her own way. I'd rather she's just given him a list of questions to answer and not talk at all.
Oh dear me yes! Her "bedside manor" is that of a creepy undertaker when she's asking the questions. Her attitude as a comic and at home with billy connolly has got to be more warm than this creepy way she asked him these personal questions goes from interrogation to why damn it don't have that attidude you shouldn't havethought that you shit! You're a sick man!
She's a psychologist. She is not meant to be unduly warm and fuzzy. She's working to get her best out of him, which she is, which is why you are all responding to the personal things he divulges. She's doing a GOOD fucking job.
Her qualifications aren't fake as such. Her qualification is licensed for use within California only and her research is known only to herself and is not available through publication in professional journals...Accoring to Wikipedia, =)
cours she sounds like the questions come from a how to be a shrink book,i myself couldnt stop myself from asking questions to keep him talking, those stories he tells are really interesting...but try to imagine your her,it cant be easy to try and be a shrink, knowing that he could be yours anytime
no disrespect to you or your views , but my understanding is the therapist does more for their client if they remain unbias . they can sympathise but shouldn't because that emotion puts them in a situation where the therapist is supporting , inadvertantly , the clients views of themselves , concepts etc.
The therapist should have empathy instead , that explains the stoney face .
I dont find it disconcerting at all, while Steven is trying to lighten the mood i think that he in fact is hiding some very dark existential feelings and Pamela can see through it.
well put. i was going to say the same thing. if we had the same training and intelligence and Dr Connelly we would not be laughing either. also bear in mind that video editing techniques mean that the reaction shown is not the immediate reaction to what he has said.
I'm finding it really disconcerting that even when Stephen is making some quite witty points or trying to lighten the mood and she's just stony faced!
Stephen is great but you can see clearly that all his woes come simply from needing attention/love/appreciation/admriation - he's not alone. It could be said that Pamela herself is also in this camp!
I don't think she is a good psychologist or interviewer, she constantly pushes her own agenda, interrupts frequently and tries to put words in the subject's mouth (e.g. when Stephen says he's never been sexually abused, she immediately contradicts him...wtf, it's not about whether YOU feel he has been!). So I loved this for Stephen Fry (identified a lot, helped me a lot blah blah) but Christ I cannot stand her.
Gaby, you've just answered your own comment, as have you MXDP, she's not there to be liked but to try to ascertain why her subject dislikes his/herself
She's a very stereotypical therapist, a little too much so though, almost to the point of annoying. The psychotherapeutic techniques she uses are very clever as she manages to elicit alot of information from them and discover their inner-most secrets which is what you need to do as a psychologist.
you dont necessarily have to use the techniques Pamela is using, in fact they are considerably dated but what do you expect from someone who has not really had the proper training to do this job at all
It's funny how Stephen talks about vagina's and suicide and all these sorts of uncomfortable things and still manages to be very charming about it.
