  • wow!!! that rockman game costs more than my entire ngpc collection!!!!! lol

  • you say true 8 bit but the system was marketed as 16 bit? it says it on those blister packs as well. i have 3 colours of the console... i'd say 8 bit ..somewhere between the game boy color and the game boy advance...the gba could do 16 bit snes games but doubt the ngpc could do similar stuff?.....

  • Just bought a neo geo pocket color myself. Loving the fighters so far!

  • The battery life is actually 40 hours

  • the neo geo and wonderswan series were pretty popular in asia. i grew up in hong kong and for a few years i saw them in stores quite a bit. its a shame these non-nintendo handhelds never got a fair shot at the western market.

  • i loved it wenn i was small

  • horrible review. Do some research before doing something like this. 8-10hr battery life? try 40. 8bit system? try 16.

  • The level design in Sonic Pocket Adventure is also a bit different from sonic 2

  • I thought it used a 16 bit graphics processor?

  • Outstanding review, as it should be done

  • This is a great review! I completely agree, I have one of these meself and quickly collected all of the fighters, which are awesome. Match of the Millennium is the best for sure, but Last Blade is also excellent, as are the other SNK titles.

  • At 2:58 it looks like that neo geo has a contrast and volume dial on the bottom. Mine only has a volume dial. Did they make a model with contrast?

  • @VideoBox100 The contrast was only present on the Mono (black and white) model. The colour version didn't have adjustable contrast.

  • i will give you 100 dll for your system Neo Geo Pocket

  • holly shit its better as gameboy!

  • The colours were good but the resolution still low for a 1999 handheld, which is why the NGPC didn't stand out so much for me at that time. You could have a "special handheld version" of an SNK fighting game, but not a real conversion. Competing with the GBC was a mistake because that system was already outdated right from the start, but popular just because it was Nintendo.

  • Just Got one of these and LOVE IT

  • One of the most underatted Handhelds of all time. The Pac Man Port,SNK vs Capcom,Sonic Pocket Adventure,King of Fighters R-2 and Metal Slug 1S2 Mission are well worth it for the Handheld.

  • great video!!, I had a neogeo pocket for like a month when i was a kid and remember metal slug for it, it was great. i gotta check ebay for one of these systems. any idea where to get the imported games other then ebay though?

  • you rocks dude, very informative

  • nice, showed me everything i needed to know. im on ebay trying to get a neo geo pocket D: so hard

  • clean your finger nails dude

  • Sorry, but you have forgotten die first Version of the System, the NeoGeo Pocket (B/W).

The Color was, like the Wonderswan Color, just made becouse Nintendo shows up the GameBoy Color, and B/W was outdated.

But beside ChrisRenucci i LOVE the NeoGeo Pocket.

Especialy the Link Up with the Dreamcast.

  • Yeah, I didn't forget anything dude, the monochrome Neo Geo was never released in North America. So your statement about them releasing the color version "just because" holds no water.

  • Strange, in Europe the BW was also realesed.

But beside that I´m right, the Color Version was realesed because of the Gameboy Color.

SNK was thinking mabe that an US Realese of the BW Version was not neccesary.

  • 7:24 is that musashi ???

  • Sonic Pocket Adventure has Sonic 3K music after the Sonic Jam song. Sonic 3K has some pretty awesome music.

  • Great review dude, and Awesome music!! \m/

  • i got a gameboy instead...so many many games.

  • yo swag i got one of these in the summer and then got rid of it cuz of the limited an poor library of games

  • I guess you missed the part where I said there a a lot more games you can import.

  • can't support this review, even its made in a nice way. This system was outdated when it came out. The Sound-Chip was like the one of the Game Gear and Master system, which sounds, in my opinion, terrible, the Toshipa CPU had just 4 Mhz, even reported different on other sides. Same Time the Gameboy pocket came out with more Colors and faster Chip, not to forget to mention the Sega Nomad, which was a Mega Drive "Pocket". If they would just used better hardware, Im sure tehy could have kicked bigN

  • Part 2: But what is more importnat than good Games, right? Sonic Pocket was a bad Sonic game, 2 years later Sonic Advanced came out for the Gameboy Advanced which was way better than Sonic Pocket. Metal Slug was a insult to NeoGeo Fans. Don't get me wrong, I jhave the Neo Geo AES and I have the Pocket too, but this is my view on this topic =)

  • skip at 5:06

  • Some things I noticed in Sonic Pocket Adventure..

    1. The music in "Neo South Island" is from Sonic Jam when you roam around in 3D.

    2. The stage select is similar to that of Sonic Jam as well...

  • i noticed it too, i guess the game designers were still really inspired by the sonic jam museum thing xp

  • I have Capcom VS SNK on the Game Cube:

Finally i no wher i can find the first part XD

  • Wow!

This looks like a cool handheld system.

If I ever saw one, I would get it

  • Thanks for the video, now i can ask for my brother to buy a Neo Geo Pocket in Japan, very cheap in Japan even you can get Neo Geo Pocket games in those hyaku stores (Everything for 100 yen= almost 1 US dolar) :)

  • the megaman game was an arcade game it was on the megaman anniversy edition

  • mega man game title music sounds a lot like master blaster music.

  • you mean blaster master?

  • Thanks for showing me how awesome the Neo Geo Pocket could be, im so tempted to get one now. Especially since there rather cheap on EBay UK, I can get a console for £30, or with games (17) including Match of The Millenium for around £50/60.

Just so you know, I got here by way of "Happy Console Gamer".

Now im going to go watch more of your videos :)

  • SNK Vs Capcom MOTM is the greatest handheld game EVER!

  • and possibly beat em up ever. rivalled really, only by SF3 3rd strike!

  • funny how the pictures in the ads have bright colorful screens, typical marketing deception, i still want one tho heh heh

  • first was just the Neo Pocket with at B/W screen. Also at the same time there was the Bandai Wonderswan with the Final Fantasy series :)

  • Except the monochrome Neo Geo Pocket was never released in North America.

  • hell ya, the TurboExpress and all the US TG16 games. also could connect it to your TV and you supposively had a TV antenna addon.

  • this was cool imma get the emulator

  • good job on this jabroni.

  • Well done! You have knack for this kind of thing!

  • Thank-you.

  • Fantastic review and video. Well done.

  • Good review, but the facts are a bit shoddy. The NGPC was actually a 16 bit unit.

  • it also had a clock, calender and (aganda?) builtin and that all in 1999.

  • It's the stuff that are not popular, that are the best.

  • woo hoo! megaman power fighters on a portable!

as those douchebags in the mcdonald's commercials say,

    "i'm lovin' it!"

  • damn dude SNK vs Capcom looks amazing o.0

    awseome !!

    5*****

  • it rules so much..

    Frenchgeek :]

  • holy shit i have to get one of those

  • i just want a good potable gaming device with good but cheap games ds is ok tho

  • i wanna buy one

  • i played a newer version of that megaman game. heh thats funny they had the old tiny megaman

  • Used to own one and I have to say it's a shame nobody else ever used the click stick. It just worked so well for every type of game.

  • Is the system back lit?

  • No, hence why I had to hold it under a light.

  • well it seemed very vibrant so therefore i thought it might be.

  • kool but what about the sega nomad that was a portable system around the time but it was just a portable genesis

  • is this thing still available? if so, were can you find one?

  • Ebay or Amazon

  • Yea looks better than some DS and PSP games.

  • mega man power battle is in the us because its in the arcade

  • sweet video man, all ur videos. For the end of your little opening intro, i saw a supreme commander nuke explosion! we should battle it out sometime XD

  • Check my reviews playlist, I've actually reviewed Supreme Commander.

  • i made a UEF unit intro..eh..it was ok..im a beginner at makin videos! im workin on a left 4 dead series right now.

  • I have had one for years, and its much better than the Gameboy colour and was a match for the GBA, Good video

  • I had a Lynx...man,that thing could kill an ox if you smack it hard enough with it :).Games ruled thou.

  • This is one of your best reviews so far. My 3 favourite reviews are Midway Arcade Treasures, Sonic Unleashed and Neo Geo Pocket.

  • I gotta admit. That is one HELL of a temptation!

It sounds like the ULTIMATE rival for the Game Boy... and nothing in my opinion had the sand to rival The Game Boy.

Although it wouldnt be the first time some guy I saw on Youtube I've never met in real life coaxed me into buying something in just the first 8 minutes of their video. But those were just candy cigarettes. THIS is a Neo Geo Pocket!

    Tempting. VERY VERY tempting!

  • ...Hell, I broke down and bought one.

  • Congratulations!

  • Curious, though since I'm a little cautious when buying something online...

...How much did you pay for YOUR Neo Geo Pocket?

  • well I bought mine brand new off the shelf back in 1999; it was around 100 bucks.

  • Man Swag your pinnacle is skipping on your audio too? That sucks man. Even my Studio Ultimate 12 is giving me grief. Maybe there is a patch or something to fix it. Other then great job my friend. I am impressed.

    -Kwing

  • And it STILL works to this very day?! Awesome!

  • Yup, it's a very sturdy piece of equipment.

  • Great review. And thanks to you, one will be arriving at my house anywhere from next week to March. I found one on Amazon, and while it costed about 65 dollars (70 for S&H), it's going to be bundled with 10 games, so that's a pretty good deal.

  • Cool, I hope you enjoy it.

  • Ok had no idea there was a neo geo pocket looks good. Ether it was not released in Europe or it did not get the marketing right there. But what do i know i come from i small island that is bankrupt =) thanks swag great review of a fun little system.

  • Awesome video, now I want one of these more then ever.

  • haircut?

  • My Ghetto Gamer partner has the pocket with all the games. It's true. Neo Geo pocket is one addictive system to own. If anyone doesn't have one, go get one now.

  • Dude you are way better than Irate Gamer!

  • That's because Irate Gamer rips off the Angry Video Game Nerd directly.

  • Hell no. Irate has started to be really original now. In his latest review he even used some CGI effects! I still don't know what means so I shouldn't use that word. But that snake was 3D animated, something the Nerd has never done. By the way, I like both of them... and SWAG.

  • true

  • Damm Sonic Pocket Adventure looks better than Sonic Advance.I think there was also a perfect arcade port of Pac-Man on the Pocket Color.I like the Rockman or Mega Man Batlle Fighters Game.I really wanna get it along with the Capcom vs SNK game as well. The Pocket Color is awesome!

  • Yes, the Pac-Man game for NGPC is very good as well.

  • now i want one. It'll be the next handheld i pick up

  • I couldnt play with a Joystick. I need a D-pad to play games.

  • it look really good but i really am a nintendo person

  • lol I actually own a sega game gear. it's HUGE.

  • love the NGP

  • GBC was only 11 years ago!! shit the bed, and look at the stage were at now, cant wait to see what the next 10 years hold!

  • My GameBoy's on 3:50

  • nice 1 nick

  • This was probably the best retro handheld review I've ever seen. Great work!

  • gameboy colour - god i love that thing..... shame it didnt have a backlight....

  • I have that Sonic game on Gameboy Advance :)

  • I saw a NGP once but it just cost too much(This was when it first came out mind you) so I couldn't get it. But I did play some of The Games and I'll say it's worth checking out! My only grip is that more Sonic Games could have been on The NGP, Like a Remake of Sonic Chaos! XD

Also I'll say That The Sega Game Gear comes close as well!

  • Another cool review , the GameBoy Advance rules and the Sonic game for NEO GEO very good , but it can't beat Sonic Advange 1 , 2 and 3 ( at least for me)

  • metal slug is also good on this consol

  • i broke mine :(

awesome review swag. your 30 reviews in 30 days was genius.

    huge fan,

    Josh

    (Check out my videos people.)

  • Awesome video, well explained, and now I actually kind of want one lol. Thanks a lot :P

I never even knew they repackaged it for that cheap, I think they never did that in Europe :(

By the way, I have another system that seemed to want to challenge (errr rip off) the GameBoy. It's called the SuperVision.

  • Fun Fact: I want to a job interview at SNK Europe to provide manga/anime art for games they were working on for the system!

But they closed up about two weeks later, but I always thought i'd have gotten the job.

  • I would have given you the job, Larry.

  • Megaman fighting game is on the megaman collection on ps2

  • Thanks! :D

  • Very interesting, I didn't know too much about the NEO GEO Pocket. Great video.

  • Great review, really enjoyed it.

  • That is a super sweet anthrax shirt. Among the living one of anthrax best albums.

  • Finally someone who actually played the console before talking about it!

  • ANTRAX \m/

u didn't make a video for sooo long!

but u made my day by making another one :D

  • Awesome video!!! Swag rules. I never played the NEO GEO pocket. Hell i never even played the NEO GEO game console. Bet its pretty good though.

  • You should really have mentioned the 8-way microswitch stick! Why hasn't any other company adapted that?

Honestly, it's the only way of making Beat 'em Up's even playable on a handheld and it's a good reason why the fighting games work on the NGPC and not on other handhelds.

Still, thanks fr giving that awesome handheld some publicity!

  • DUDE! At 4:13 that's my collection of my NGPC games there! I took that picture 3 years ago and it's still on my site. Where did you find it?

  • I used to play the shit outta an arcade version of that megaman game.

  • The Turbo Express was so awesome but yeah, I was the only one I knew that had one.

  • Wow I never had seen one O.o

  • me an my brother each had a lynx...that thing was awesome!

  • never seen the linx but i do remeber the sega hand held^^

  • I got a NEO GEO Pocket! and ye i still play it sometimes ;D.

  • Awesome video man. I like how you showed the games. Cool Anthrax shirt man. Ive hung out with them. Besides Scott. He came out from back stage and left the building with a couple of chicks and took off in a limo.

  • sorry if you mentioned it but is it backlit as able to be played the dark??

  • no, it's not backlit, I didn't mention it.

  • No, it's not.

  • nice

  • this awsome!

  • Sweet video.

  • cool
