  • Come on guys, it's not that bad. If we had never heard Little Richard's magnificent original version, I am sure we would find this squeaky-clean version quite good.

  • Just think......THIS was the crap that Dick Clark was trying to promote while trying to get Alan Freed off the air with PAYOLA. Pat Boone looks like he is auditioning for the WHITEST MAN ON PLANET EARTH award.

  • this makes me want to smack my ancestors

  • This is such a horrible cover.

  • @honeegrrl I'm just grateful that someone posted this because it shows a whole new generation just what diabolical things Pat Boone could do to material like this. He had us laughing until the tears ran down our faces. When Pat Boone got up to sing there wasn't a dry seat in the theatre. Added to that, he wore a toupee and we lived in hope that it would fly off mid-song. Sadly it never did. They don't make 'em like him any more.

  • You suck, Pat!

  • That was awful.

  • Hahahaha Pat you fuckwit!

  • You know nowadays, Pat Boone is a right-wing douchebag.

  • Pat Boone even looks like he's not taking this shit seriously.

  • wonder if he wrote home telling his family he found his "special purpose"?.....get it?...the snapping?....the jerk?.......aw you kids with yer....yer make out pah-ties....*sigh*....

  • Witness a man with absolutely no rytham or soul at all.

  • Pat wasn't a racist. Read some of his stuff--good Christian guy and he COULD sing sure sold a LOT of records--Only Elvis sold more as a solo in the 60''s

  • I do not think Mike Seeger, Pete Seeger, Doc Watson or David Holt would aprove of this. I gotta say I do listen to Rock if it has good guitar sound. But I listen to Old Time, Country, Folk, Country Blues, Ragtime, Celtic, Jazz, Blues, and Bluegrass. I play banjo and I would never play this crappy cover on my banjo. I do like Led Zepphlin's song with a banjo in it.

  • Ditto

  • Everybody say thanks to segregation for bringing you this totally far out version.

  • Lil Richard said that Pat Boone would never have been known if it wasn't for he (lil richard).

Le't face it, Pat Boone is the bomb, a true soul brother. That cat can swing, baby

  • They didn’t want me to be in the white guys’ way… I felt I was pushed into a rhythm and blues corner to keep out of rockers’ way, because that’s where the money is. When ‘Tutti Frutti’ came out… They needed a rock star to block me out of white homes because I was a hero to white kids. The white kids would have Pat Boone upon the dresser and me in the drawer ‘cause they liked my version better, but the families didn’t want me because of the image that I was projecting."- Little Richard

  • he need a foot right up the rear.

  • Do I Like this because I agree, or do I Dislike because I hate Pat Boone?

  • The man's got no rythm at all!

  • Terrible!

  • terrible.

  • I feel bad cause I might be related to him ;-;

  • lmfao snapping fag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good lord this is embarrassing.

  • so white...

  • Just awful!

  • when is gonna do covers of hip hop songs? I can't wait.

  • I have a record of this. It makes a great frisbee.

  • Of course loosening the tie really made him look cool as he rocked the joint.

  • Well, you know how white folks are sometimes.

  • milk toast crap!

  • Goddamn........... That was awful.

  • his attempt to snap is like his hands are having a seizure

  • Pat Boone made money by covering black artists and then selling it in segregated parts of the country, Elvis did the same thing he only Elvis had talent and appeal outside of the south, he wasn't just a cheap knock off

  • "WOOOOO TUTTI FRUTTI..." LMAOOOOO

  • HAHAHAHAHA LOL Well...it ain't that bad hahahah lmao :O

  • I'm just cracking up at the title of this video.

  • from wikipedia: "According to an opinion poll of high school students in 1957, the singer was nearly the "two-to-one favorite over Elvis Presley among boys and preferred almost three-to-one by girls...[obscure citation provided]". in 1957 ... pat boone ... more popular than elvis with kids ... what the HELL?! which high school students were these? the special-ed kids?*

  • *totally tasteless joke, but seriously; fuck pat boone and his bogus survey in the ear

  • This so bad......it's hilarious. You can only feel sorry for someone making such a big fool of themselves like this on TV.

  • people just don't get it...in the 50s, the mainstream artists sing so many cover version....read about it.... the platters, elvis all sings tonnes of cover versions..it's the trend those days

  • thats funny we were just talking about this in my music business class, this version does suck.

  • The music industry was divided back then. White pop artists for the white cosmopolitan masses, black R&B artists for the black audiences and country artists for the southern and rural white audiences. Covers went every which way. It was the only way to get a song to everyone. I am not saying this was right. It was the way it was until Alan Freed changed things.

  • He's a vanilla wafer for sure, but it's a dumb fucking song to begin with.

  • @snotjello Long before Richard recorded this, he performed it at his shows as "Tutti Frutti, Loose Booty." It was a very raucous and sexual song and was considered too suggestive for white audiences, so it was cleaned up considerably when he recorded it. The chorus was changed to "Tutti Frutti, aw Rudi," and the lyrics "A good Goddamn" were altered to "a wop bam boom."

  • Poor Pat,

He never wanted to do this song. He understood it was completely outside his style and he could never do it justice. But his record label wanted to jump in on that exciting new "Race Music" and got their top star, "Love Letters in the Sand" singer Boone to do the Little Richard cover. Boone's white fans liked it, but today it is remembered as the worse cover of all time.

  • This guy is whiter than a polar bear dancing in a snow storm

  • Fuck you pat boone Little Richard is the best!!!

  • Cold thing is this guy made more money off of this song than Little Richard because of racism!! America has an awful historical record. Shame cause she could be much better than that!!

  • i don't have a clue how to type. lol

  • he just doesn't have a clue what he's doing here. this is just embarrasing and awful.

  • he just doesn't have a ckue what he's doing here. this is just embarrasing and awful.

  • "I would have spanked his booty if I ever met him!"

-Little Richard, on Pat Boone's cover outselling the original

  • wow its like impossible to believe that this was done in seriousness, and its even moe unbelievable that it was more popular than the orignial. Lets just say it IT SUCKS!

  • Wow this is awful :-(

  • @honeegrrl It is awful the real rock n roll didnt get on TV....it was to black!

  • Wow this really fuckin sucks! What is he doing with his arms??? I haven't seen choreography this stiff since the Lee Harvey Oswald prison transfer.

  • No backbeat, no electricity.

  • Pat Boone was a mediocre musician who made his career pandering to racism. If you apologize for or support Pat Boone you place yourself firmly on the side that turned on the fire hoses in Birmingham.

  • @Axissillian are you black? u have no idea wat ur talking about if u think pat is racist.

  • @Gunfighter200077 Ok, then he's just homophobic! lol, actually I like some Pat Boone songs but his Tutti Frutti was never one of em..

  • @CrisVangel1958 its easy to make the argument tht little richard was racist for the comments he made about pat boone. you see it goes both ways.

  • @Axissillian Ya except every white artist was doing that... including Elvis... so your arguement is completely flawed

  • @slr1238 Nobody "won" the Cold War.

The USSR collapsed due to economic reasons, not because Reagan told them to.

  • For God sakes, Pat Boone was an excellent artist in his own right, he had his own style. I'm really not sure why people have to fly off the handle at him for no reason.... everyone did covers back then. You think Elvis was the first to record Hound Dog? Or that the Beatles wrote Twist and Shout?

  • @ChrisPenta The point is that Pat Boone specialized in remaking songs by black artists and selling them to racist little white teenagers... I guess that was alright back in the day but history does not view it so kindly.

  • @jscott1000 Pat Boone was an ordinary artist like any other... He occasionally recorded covers of popular songs to cash in on them, like any other artist. Racism doesn't enter into it besides maybe parents took him to be a less threatening face of rock and roll... Where did you think Vanilla Ice and Eminem got their popularity? This venomous hatred over a guy's mediocre cover of a now obscure song is moronic.

  • @ChrisPenta Well you can think whatever you like, but you can't re-write history. The fact is that radio back in the late 50s was not ready to play Little Richard, so Pat Boone capitalized on the racist nature of the industry to make a lot of money by re-distributing the song to a wider audience. In a different Universe where civil rights came a decade earlier Pat Boone would have never made a dime remaking songs by far superior artists.

  • @jscott1000 While I agree that these songs didn't get the proper coverage on the radio back in the day, Pat Boone disliked doing covers of these songs as much as you dislike listening to them, he was already an established artist and was pressured into it by his producers. You are trying to compare apples to oranges and then presume racism, which I don't inherently disagree with, but you can't attack Pat Boone personally for it, just isn't fair. He does a decent cover in his own style.

  • Comment removed

  • @jscott1000 The kids weren't racist it was their parents who would not permit black or "race" records in the house. Many bought them anyway.. also it's hard to understand this without understanding that racism was in many cases permitted or even encouraged back in those days, it was "in fashion".. not to make excuses for anyone but in those times all this seemed to make more sense although it is just wrong, most people would agree in our day and age.

  • well this is history right here. it gives you a glimpse into americas past. black music was called race music and white people remade black folks music. dont be made at it take it as a lesson of how far we have come in america. but we still have a long ass way to go

  • Pat Boone Suck Ass! Pat Boone is like an early Justin Bieber who those girld liked..

    Fuck You Pat Boone!

  • best song is the original of Old Man River.

  • Pat Boone is the whitest man on the face of the earth.

  • this really sucks big time...almost as bad as the Andy Williams version of MOON RIVER that another no talent ripped off from the ICEMAN, the fabulous Jerry Butler.

  • This is just so....sad. I need to go listen to Little Richard to cleanse my ears.

  • Bieber, elvis, slim shady the list goes on they been stealing from the jump

  • I'm really surprised that somebody hasn't commented on how this is so much better than Justin Bieber (or just "the crap we have today" in general). It seems like those comments are on every single video of an older song.

  • @waterlilyqueen I had the same thought. I think this is the first older video I seen that doesn't have those "everything was better then" comments.

  • this is just another example of white artist stealing blacks music and trying to make it their own haha this man did that a lot and on top of that he tried to claim it as his own

  • Pat Boone is the original Three Times One Minus One

  • Lol......

  • This is hilarious. He has absolutely no rhythm or feel for what he is singing. When he sees this today, I wonder if he gets shivers of embarrassment up his spine!

  • @fernc92 "When he sees this today, I wonder if he gets shivers of embarrassment up his spine!" I doubt he has a clue. Seriously. He probably thinks he did the world a favor, like Elvis.

  • This man's shocking lack of rhythm is an embarrassment to the whole caucasian race.

  • @Zilderist WELL SPOKEN... ITS JUST MAKES WHITE'S LOOK SAD

  • @Zilderist Couldn't agree more. He is an embarassment to whites and America in general. Not to mention a hypocrite by any definition.

  • @Zilderist Caucasian isn't a race, it's an ethnicity. But yes your right this man does bring to mind only thoughts of facepalms.

  • what is up with that snapping.... so annoying.

  • pat boone should have never tried to attempt that....he totally ruined the song!

  • This is a piece of shit! Little Richard does it waay better. I can't even get through this whole video. I can't believe how dumb people were to listen to crap like this.>:(

He's nothin' but a rip off artist who can't sing shit!

  • @montezia93 this guy can sing, R&B/50s rock & roll is just not his genre, the execs forced him to sing it cos it was the big thing in the mid 50s ......give him a pop ballad, he can sing his ass off.....if you give little richard a frank sinatra tune, he'll sound like shit too...

the bottom line is, he CAN sing...good pitch and on beat...just the wrong style, sings the whole song pretty flat...

  • lol

  • He cant even SNAP on BEAT. LMAO!

  • Why people have no rhythm...why is this?!

  • worse than anything ever recorded, BUT this is what they wanted us to hear just to keep the black artist off the air waves

  • and this charted higher than little richard........him singing this song is all the reason they needed to end segregation

  • @D1288 HGWT5763. 03/03/08/2011 A.D. IN CASE YOU AND ALL OF THE OTHER CRITICS OF MR.BOONE NEVER KNEW,ORIGINALLY,GOOD OLD PAT HERE NEVER ACTUALLY WANTED TO RECORD THIS OR POSSIBLY ANY OTHER TUNES WHICH,OBVIOUSLY MADE VERY LITTLE SENSE TO HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE,THE PEOPLE AT DOT RECORDS TOLD HIM TO GO AHEAD AND DO IT ANYAWY. END OF PART ONE.

  • fuck you pat boone

  • @RevelationWarriors Well said!!

  • @yankeespy3 pisses me off. was a tool to oppress rock and black folk back then and now he's a fucking protesting Tea Bagger.
