@gothicdoll123 While this type of clothing is indeed beautiful, it is not practical on a day to day basis, unless you have maids and nannies and don't want to do anything physical (like walk or breathe), nor were the corsets good for a persons health.
@ihaveagaydog Apparently people are totally incapable of reading. I've answered this question before--it's difficult to find redheads in period pieces, much less pieces set in the Tudor era, and at the time I was making this, Vanity Fair was the BEST I COULD DO. Please, read other comments before you post.
@idickstein Thank you for watching, but as I’ve said before to other, similar comments, I’m more than aware that Reese Witherspoon did not play Mary or Elizabeth. At the time I was making this, I was having difficulty finding a red-haired actress in any period piece, much less in a sixteenth-century piece. When I stumbled across the Vanity Fair stills, I was relieved and I used them. I apologize if it bothered you.
I started out liking this vid but was disturbed by the addtion of Reese Witherspoon from Vanity Fair in it. She was neither Mary nor Elisabeth and her character didn't exist until around 250 years later. That kind of killed my enjoyment of the vid.

All these women were victim's of the time they were living in. But Anna more so because she had to bow to Henry's crazy moods. I do think they loved eachother to much. After all, he changed a whole country for her. Mary and Elezabeth both got damaged by their fathers actions and not by their mothers or stephmothers.
I love Helena Bonham Carter but I hate her portrayal of Anne Boleyn. She played her the exact opposite of who she truly was- a vivacious, charming, passionate, and charismatic woman who wasn't considered beautiful but exuded sex appeal. Helena made her out to be a cold, detached, and quite frankly bored person who drew the king in with her gorgeous face. Natalie Portman just made her out to be an ambitious bitch. Natalie Dormer is the only actress I've seen manage to capture her true spirit.
H was using them in the context, e.g the song refers to how they felt by what Henry VIII did to them, e.g. Bastardising them and making them illigitimate
i wish in this time of ladies still wear this type of clothes but the housing and technology is still there but womens still wear this dresses in this time because its very elegant and pretty and but the headdress hmm i would just ban it up or do it some thing for hehe crevity im not saying tat the head dress is not nice but quite nice to wear. Im form singapore and i love english history and the clothes its brillant . hope if singapore or usa part still make this type of dresses
@gothicdoll123 haaaaaaaaaah iThought iWas the only1 lol...everytime I saw Anne B and Queen Katherine IWould say: I want to wear dresses like The Queen *smiles*
I feel sorry for Mary I because she had a hard life after her Father married Anne Boleyn and she never saw her mother again.....So If Henry VIII didn't Marry Anne. Mary would have a good life
but then she thought Jane Seymour and Lutherian; was confused when after Jane died he married another Lutherian; Anne of Cleves; got a 17 year old stepmother and was finally restored to the succession and threw this country into termiol; how the F*** can you feel sorry for HER?!
like the song but the vid is shit there are only a few pictures of elizabeth and anne the ones of reese weitherspoon are from a completly different film
Thanks for the constructive crit. I'm perfectly aware that the Reese Witherspoon pictures aren't actually of Mary, and I think the rest of my viewers are, too.
It's not "advertising," it's a title. And the other hundred people who've favorited this video don't seem to mind. I'm sorry it bothers you - just don't watch it, in that case.
But Elizabeth won the round and became a great Queen, where Mary was a terror in her short rule. So much so that she was nicknamed Bloody Mary(thats where it came from). She tried to kill off the ruling Protestants, which were most of the ruling class. Fortunately Liz pushed her off. I don't think they would think of themselves as the same in any way. Elizabeth was a lot like Henry. Maybe not the best person in some ways, but a great Queen, and loved her country before everything.
i guess life was hard for these to women because theyy did most of their live much of their lives with out a mother, & with their father being A man whore i guess life wasnt easy for them but i agree they were rivals & this we could all tell cause mary locked elizabeth away in a tower.
Anne Boleyn specifically? Or the Boleyn family. Because she couldn't be a descendant because the only child Anne had was Elizabeth, and Elizabeth had no children. So...was it Boleyns generally?
Yep. Anne was a descendent of my friend and I thought Elizabeth is her descendant as well, but I know lots about Anne and I'm really glad to say that I found a friend who is a descendent of a misunderstood wife of Henry VIII.
However, she's also the descent of the man who tried to steal the crown jewels in the Stuart Era. Her father's changed their surname a long time ago. So that's why, you're so confussed.
I love the way you combined these images and this song! It fits so well with the whole story! It is indeed very sad that these two wonderful girls not only had they to grow up without their mothers, but also without their father.
That's right. For one, Mary had a beautiful mother and a handsome father and was only "ugly" after she had suffered for all those years - through being disowned, and trying to become Queen, and then being regarded as "Bloody Mary". Elizabeth was, from what I've read, always considered enchanting, if not beautiful...except when she was old, but that's understandable.
I agree, and also Elizaabeth as she got older started to look worse because during her time there was a "trend" to make your skin chalk white and the power she used had lead in it and it affected her skin, making her wear more to cover the spots and made her begin to lose hair. (she later wore a wig in life)
Thanks! It really is perfect for them. So many things are. xD The original soap opera, as I've heard it phrased. (And now they really ARE a soap opera of sorts, aren't they?)
This was terrific! :) Usually Tudor video tributes are paired with Renaissance Court music (nothing wrong with that I love those too!) But this is different, and I love the way you spliced characters from different versions of the Tudor story, or different movies with popular actresses.
Thanks! Apart from the Romanovs, the Tudors are my favorite historical family. Royal family, I suppose. I think modern songs fit them very well - they were quite modern for their time, I think.
Very nice concept! Poor kids....interesting choice of Witherspoon as Mary--I like you chose someone with red hair (as is accurate but often forgotten), though I think the girl who played Mary in the 1970 Six Wives Production was pretty good--though it would prob. have been hard to find pics for her!
Thanks for giving Mary some love! I also always feel sorry for those children, though my sympathies lie more with Mary--I can't imagine having it all & then losing it all!
Yeah, unless you have the DVD and can take pictures of the production on Windows Movie Maker or something I guess....
She was bitchy towards Eliz in later life, though as you said she did have reason--she was jealous of her more popular, younger, beautiful sister, and bitter because of the Anne thing. Yet I think she also did love Elizabeth at the same time, and I think I've heard that she was more affectionate towards her when Eliz was a child. It was a love/hate thing...;) Ooh the angst!
Um, I think I put that in the vid's info - or tried to - to make that clearer. I used the girl (Rachel Hurd-Wood) as both Mary and Elizabeth, when they were younger.
I could never remember his character's name. <3 Thanks for pointing it out! All I really remembered was that he was there...and then that he died. I should know, being that he's one of my favorite actors. *shrug*
I agree. It really struck me as both girls, though neither of them had the same situation, obviously, other than pretty much beind ignored by Henry. Glad you like!
