Favorite Arch Enemy song. Johan definitely did it better, as the song has quite intricate and deep lyrics, which are far less understandable with Angela's barking.
I like Angela Gossows lyrics better, but in my opinion - the music on the oldest records (guitars, drums and stuff..) totally rapes the music on the new ones.
I think that Johan did a good job on this song. But keep in mind on how much amazing stuff Angela has done. I mean she is a girl that can pull this off. I giver her Mad Props on this.
@lstarbuck20 she looked hotter back on wages of sin. and i think i liked her vocals better too. dont quite know why but they just seemed more unique, or maybe its the nostalgia...
Liiva's growls didn't sound that much distorted like growls should sound, mainly on black earth and stigmata. my humble opinion. Angela kicks ass, she the ammot's guitar wizardry make arch enemy unique ;)
I know she used to use a few effects on her vocals, but there were none on Rise of the Tyrant, and her voice was the best it's ever been. I assume there are no effects on the new DVD, too.
gah me and youtube aren't getting along today. I like how much her growls have matured since she joined the band. When she does use voice enhancement you can tell, its pretty obvious and it depends on the song if she does or not. You'll hear more backtracking vocals than anything else, which makes it funny when they start the tape when she's talking and she rushes out what she's saying before a song.
Angela is definitely better!!! Her vocals are more abstract and fit this song well!!! Johan was a decent vocalist for metal but at times he was just boring after a while. Angela's vocals are far more intimidating and very noticable and makes her and the band stand out more than with Johan and she should be given a lot more credit!!!
Damn, Angela's vocals are far more powerful than Liiva's, it was only until I heard this did I actually realise. He got out metalled by a woman. Damn.

I think she uses effects..
You can hear an hall or delay effect on the mic which is totally okay beacuse it gives her voice more ..filling
Randy Blythe used also hall effects on the newest record, sounds betten than just the normal singing.
But effects or not - she *has* a very strong voice!

Johan Liva was a better singer for this.
It fits better with a deeper singer.

being a woman has nothing to do with how good you can be.
I love her version of Bury Me an Angel...Liiva was just...bad.
I love Angela. Norse power 'till the end of time!

C'mon man. Give the guy SOME credit. They wouldn't have had this following if it wasn't for him.
For the record, Angela is German.
