lol. someone probably mentioned this already, but i like how this irish guy (no offense meant by that btw, irish are cool lol) knows more about the american constitution than the guy he is responding to, who is obviously an american.
Your analysis of vouchers is in error. Vouchers are no more putting money into the hands of the church than medicare is just because some hospitals are catholic hospitals. Furthermore, no parent WANTS their children to be stupider. Sidenote, I went to a catholic elementary school--they taught evolution. The benefits are that schools that provide inadequate teaching will go out of business. There aren't enough characters for a full analysis, but the system is valid.
Great vid, just one thing: Referendums are not illegal in Germany. They do not exist on the federal level, but are quite widespread on the local, regional and state level. Of course, OUR constitution makes it illegal to vote on its core values (these are not even changeable by an absolute majority in parliament): E.g. you "vote away" minority rights etc. by plebiscite...
@notinmyname2050 Sorry for my nitpicking :-). And you are right in an important way: On the federal level they are still NOT allowed, and the main reason given WAS, for many years, the one you pointed out: In "Weimar" , plebiscites gave the extremists a possibility to "show of" and destabilize parliamentary democracy, and in the Third Reich they were purely "acclamationary". Opinions on this have shifted a lot, and many now think we do need "more democracy". It´s an ongoing discussion..
An Irishman that not only knows America better than a Christian fundamentalist, but also totally obliterates all of his so called "arguments"!
As a Canadian (Cough! Quebecer! Cough!), I am proud that my country is officially a secular society (to be precise, look-up "laïcité/laïc", can't post a URL...), but we have been giving way too much leeway to religious fanatics via "reasonable compromises" for several years, so I definitely understand your outrage towards the "Blasphemy Law"!
@toulouse666 Well, unfortunately for me I can't say Ireland is a secular country. Our constitution begins with a prayer directly to Jesus and the trinity and later features acknowledgment that it is good and right to engage in the public worship of God.
I can only hope that evolution (or should I say scientific/rationally supported actually factual education?) will soon bring more logic/common sense to humanity.
I like how this "God" called things like eating shrimp, an "abomination" and then later, about 30 years after this "God" gestated in virgin's womb for 9 months, this "God's human form" says that eating shrimp and such is ok because you just poop it out.
@keithc1977 Thanks, though it must be said the hardest part of making these response videos isn't actually coming up with arguments. It's having the patience to sit through theirs without punching something. Gah!
This last election was a slaughter house for judges who had made rulings saying that the gay-marriage ban was unconstitutional. This sends such warning to all judges that this fate may be in store for them if they go down that same path. My fear is that this will only make things worse in regard to gay marriage. *sigh*
@tinySpectacle We can only hope that when the issue finally and inevitably makes it to the Supreme Court it will be heard by judges who care more about what is right and constitutional than about how popular the decision will be.
What's wrong with America? This video points out one of the more glaring problems. It is embarrassing that an American needs to be schooled on the US Constitution by someone of another country.
@cablepanos I love the IDEA of America, it's incredibly sad to see so many Americans tearing down its potential and trying to replace it with the very thing it was founded in opposition to.
@notinmyname2050 It may be only sad for you, but for me, as an American, it is scary. The Right try to keep the people ignorant so that they can have their way, but it can't be supported forever. I fear it will backfire on them (and all of us) soon. People running for office that ask "Where in the Constitution is the Separation of Church and State?" highlight what a joke our political system has become. I'm worried. Thanks for the videos, people like you give me hope, even if you aren't here.
I can't understand why you don't have more subs. You're probably the most intelligent person I'm subscribed to and one of the few that I actually look forward to seeing videos from.
For the record - Mr Mitchell is a right-wing evangelical inerrantist liar who never ever provides facts and figures to back up his case.
If I betted which I don't, i think my money would be on him being a self-oppressed closet case as he seems, using the ironcross66106 principle that what you talk about most is what you really are, to talk an awful lot about gay marriage and lesbians and gay men.
Great video, Shane! Illuminati spouts such bullshit and thinks it will be taken seriously if he tries to make it look "whacky" with his same old same old style. You on the other hand, not only refute his claims, but offer up your evidence below your video, as you've done with other nutjobs you've torn apart. Always a pleasure to watch.
I'll leave religions to set their own rules for marriage as part of their membership requirements. Marriage outside of a religious context is neither liberal or conservative - it equality under the law. Either one supports equal rights or you don't. Keep up the good work!
@TheAlpineal Agreed, I also would NEVER try to force a religion or church into performing religious ceremonies against their will. Such would be a gross misuse of power and a violation of their liberties.
@notinmyname2050 Sorry. Didn't mean to imply you were, if that's what you thought I meant. But the religious are not afraid to paste their rules on the secular world, thought.
@TheSpankymonkey Ta Spanky. Theres been a lack of non-drama videos of late. Thought I'd try to tip the balance back towards the realm of actual debate.
Sterling work as always Mr 2050! Groan-worthy isn't it. Complaining that the courts are over-ruling the vote of the people? Yep, that's kinda what inevitably happens when you make the mistake of putting human rights up for vote in the first place. What an embarrassing exhibition of posterised ignorance this little twerp is. But that's the way on YouTube — some base their work on integrity and intellect, others get by on a worn-out old video effect.
@DLandonCole What?!?!?! Oh come on now Landon, how am I supposed to garner attention for myself by engaging you in petty drama if you go and agree with me?!?!?
*sulks*
Seriously though, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@macnutz Sometimes it almost makes me wish the Bible WAS true, just so their Go would rapture all these assholes already and let all of us heathens just get on with it.
Ha! NAMBLA. what a piece of shit group. And by the way, I was brought up Unitarian and told I was going to hell by all my catholic friends... see how well their threats worked? Great vid. And I agree with tattooskin but it's the accent that does it for me.
One thing that really pisses me off is when these idiots spout their bullshit about this country being "founded on christian principles." It absolutely was not. This country was founded on the ancient ideals of Freemasonry which included freedom OF religion, and freedom FROM religion. Whether Deist, Christian, Unitarian or whatever their personal bent was, they were ALL devout secularists. This made up what is now called "The Great American Experiment."
Astoundingly the "triumph of Christian civilisation" harks directly to Li'l Adolf who said much the same thing many times in his speeches and writings.
I have seen this wingnut before, he loves to strut and prance and spout bullshit. I suppose he has his fans among the TPers, militias and KKK. These are the people who just won the congressional elections.
