Nice I often find myself kicking various objects in the world such as parking meters. This is a great and simple training tool that you have shown me which I will add to the temple thank you! Normally we use a wooden man to make sure the kick properly wedges energy to the ground but this will be cool as well. Perhaps I can make them taller and use them with hands as well! Thanks for sharing!
May I ask what the material of your gerk jong is made out of ? It looks like heavy pvc but is the poles and triangle made of the same material ? Thanks for sharing the video, really nice to see.. Thanks
Actually this one is steel pipe welded to steel plate.
If you use 3" pvc as sleeves you can set them 2' into the ground with compacted pebbles around them and then put landscaping timbers inside sticking up 2 feet (so the landscaping timber would be a total of 4'. The reason not to cement them but instead to place them in the sleeves is to allow some limited "response" movement. My favorite though is kicking the pole of a parking meter. They work great and the meter acts like a shock absorber.
don't let it get you in trouble. twenty years ago on my birthday my students took me to a midnight movie after class & dinner. we went to a club & they were bored. I got each of them a pitcher, no glass & got the loveliest woman in the place to give them each a kiss. when we headed back to the car one of them said "hey sifu, betcha can't knock that meter over". Oops. I guess it wasn't sunk properly & over it went. It ended up in the trunk of some girls moving into an apt. I'm sure they put it bk
Oh yea, I aslo wanted to ask you about the wooden fan blade object in the background against the wall. What is it used for? Is it used in some kind of training application?? If so, can you explain to me how it works and give me some specs on it?? Peace.
Hey, Good News! Just center your posts 36' from each other. If you want to weld to a 1/4" steel plate like in the video should be easy to figure. You may also like to directly bury posts 2' deep and surround with compacted stone so they don't move too much. Also can cement 4" pvc 2 feet deep and drop a four or 5 foot long 3" landscaping timber in the pvc. Have fun.
by the way, in the vid I only introduced Mike to the kicking Gurk Jongs about 5 minutes before we made the video!
Enjoyed your video on the Gerk Jong. I posted a video response on "How not to use the Gerk Jong". Hope you get it (first video response for me) and if so hope yoiu enjoy it. If not, maybe you'll like the steak! Looking forward to more vid from the Catskill.
You are very kind. I'm sure that it was the steak that influenced you. For sure, your teaching vids are some of the most technically enlightening on Youtube. Good stuff, very sound and logical, and again, thanks for sharing.
Take care of your health the best way you know how. I've been veggie for 35 years however if that is the correct way for you, take it slow and steady.

The blades are from a patented aerial motorcycle that my father was working on. Fortunately you won't have to use them in a work out!
