  • interesting video and very informative

  • Make 3D is the software

  • it's Bach you i..t :))

  • just fold the image

  • It's just awesome!

  • No matter what, a picture on a screen is always 2d. Until screens can project orthogonal images, its always going to be two dimensional.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • Check my 3d transforming...

    /watch?v=gx8eqRH5BWU

  • I made something similar, but with the free software Blender :) Check my channel for the result

  • 3Defy is a new technology which allows you to convert your photos into 3D models! It uses a non-automated process which can result in a much more realistic result. Check out the video on my channel.

  • These "researches" quite look like matte painting.

  • imagine if google has this type of technology

  • haha it took a university to accomplish this..when I was doing this back 1995 with mesh mapping lol

  • wow!

  • I use a similary effect for my video for "Who is This?" I used Adobe After Effects quite extensively. Please see my chanel for the final version.

  • Silence of the Lambs! right?

  • It's not amazing at all they aren't turned into real 3d object it's merely an algoritm to manipulate a 2d image and giving it a 3d feel. observe that they don't really change the view angle of the object it's scaled and zoomed in only also no additionall detail is added

  • It seems like Google Maps street view uses this technology or a technology similar to it. It's amazing. I'm excited to see how far this technology will go

  • Thumbs up if you read the comments first

  • lol...awsum :)

  • this is amazing.

  • i actually liked'em in 2D

  • mind = blown

  • @DeathForSk8 This blew your mind? Retard, it's not even correct. At all.

  • @MrWsad what are u trying to say its not correct? this blew my mind cuz a computer did all this, simply by giving it a 2d image it recognized it and gave it a 3d perspective... If u think u can create a better program than the guys at carnegie mellon university, then go ahead :P

  • @DeathForSk8 Dude. It didn't create a 3D picture. I already explained it to eriandor. 2d is projection of 3d and can't be converted back because of loss of information.

  • @MrWsad i didnt say it created a 3d image i said it gave it a 3d perpective... if u are not impressed by this simply because it didnt do the magic of turning it into an actual 3d image, then go ahead and do that urself and let others be impressed by this

  • Why the fuck is this shit in my playlist?! Youtube is retarded..

  • ce n'est pas vraiment 1 réussite le passage du 2D en 3D . Il faut refaire les devoirs

  • what software has been used for this kind of work?

  • Hannibal Lecter music!! XD

  • google street view!

  • That´s how Google Street View works

  • HAHA!!! IT DIDN'T WORK!!!

It made trees part of the train.

Of course you can't turn 2d picture into 3d precisely. There is not enough information in a 2d picture to convert it to 3d. You can make it look like 3d but not make it 3d.

  • @MrWsad ceci n'est pas un pipe

  • @eriandor It's "ceci n'est pas une pipe" and no that has nothing to do with this.

  • @MrWsad wow, sorry if i'm wrong one single letter... I think you know what it means though. You say there isn't enough info in a picture to convert it to 3D. Yet we can clearly visualize the train in our heads when we look at it. If a program has enough pregained knowledge of what the objects in a scene are, why shouldn't it be able to deconstruct a picture and make it 3D? We do it mentally every second. The least you can say is computers can't do it YET. You just claimed it can't be done...

  • @eriandor It can't be done perfectly. Ever. Pregained knowledge? I don't think you quite understand...

Your idea is basically for a computer to recognize a tree and know how it looks like?

    1. Trees are not identhical.

    2. What if a human intentionally made something like tree but the part that isn't seen looks like something completely else? That would glitch the program.

    It just cannot be done.

    Pictures are 2D.

You CANNOT know what is behind objects.

  • @MrWsad after reading your post 5 times I finally understood it. you state much without much argumentation; I'll agree that 2D images (or at least photographs) are a 3D projection and therefore the projection can't be returned to 3D correctly, because of the loss of data. However, supplement the loss of data with pregained knowledge and you can still get a near perfect approximation. Search "asimo learns" on youtube for a learning robot. And of course, something that's not ON the pic won't go 3D

  • @eriandor Yes, yes. Near perfection is completely different than perfection. All I was trying to say that 2D images are a 3D projection and therefore the projection can't be returned to 3D correctly because of the loss of data. Yesss. English is not my native language so sorry if I didn't explain it in simpler terms. :P

  • @MrWsad yeah you fucking idiot.

  • @PumpkinLeif You're a fucking idiot. It didn't create a 3D picture. I already explained it to eriandor. 2d is projection of 3d and can't be converted back because of loss of information.

  • yeah...like 3d old games !

  • You can do this on (I believe) any 3D modeling program .... you basically put in a flat image plane and shape distances based on the image, fitting, then, the image in this modeling ... what surprise me is the mention that these images were constructed automatically.

  • can u make this on sketchup or similar 3d software

  • this scares me because I am a professional 3d modeler.

  • @JackHorner69 scares me too !

  • Thanks! Converting PHOTOS to 3d is what I'm after!

  • Nice music

  • NOT BAD, BUT I HAVE BETTER ONES! Check my video about transforming 2d photos into movie scenes!

  • do you know about musical video that use this animation ??

  • WHAT is NAME this program ?????

  • @MrAntiliars photoshop

  • Does anybody know the name of the plugin used in this presentation?

  • @shanikabentsen06 ur wierd, maybe sad, and probably also desperate

  • Awesome

  • @shanikabentsen06 faggot

  • (almost) no more structural design for 3D games.

just put your pictures in, and the engine will do the rest... lol

  • Мне понравилось. Прикольное преображение.

  • could shadows be detected and used to measure depth. recognizable objects should have a given depth. The trees should not be flat

  • download link>? I would love to help develop this for larger photos

  • Thank you, this is the future. I can't wait to imagine what will this technology will look like in 5 or 10 years...

  • Another way to convert 2D to 3D is by using Photosculpt. See my profile for more?

  • looks like some simple 3D-projections to me, However, if this is true it´s very cool :)

  • what is the music within this video?

  • @alwayskeepyourfork The music is "I Shit My Pants" by Amadeus. One of his most obscure pieces.

  • @onjoMedia that comment made my day

  • @onjoMedia hahahahahaha

  • @alwayskeepyourfork

    It´s J.S. Bach "Goldberg Variations - No 1 Aria"

  • whats a program what renders a model from images taked from differnt angles?

  • Cool that it can do it automatically... but that's a pretty standard effect

  • Cool that it can do it automatically... but that's pretty standard effect

  • lol wery basic

  • that was really cool!!

  • Que programa utilizaste para transformar tus imagenes a 3d???

    donde lo descargo ese programa???

    Gracias.

  • @mysterioazul21 es un programa llamado photosynth

  • which software is using for transforming ?

    anyway great

  • whatever it is, its bloody cool!

  • Check out my a-m-a-z-i-n-g 3d slideshow ( in my channel )!!

  • song please?

  • Nuke or after effects? or what program?

  • 原理が分からない…でもすごいな

    映画とか2Dを3Dに変換するのって骨折れると思う。

  • After Effects does this easily... nothing new... and this is not very well done actually!

  • what song is this?

  • @maxkikken This is Goldberg Variation J.S. Bach

  • lol, texture projection, nothing new

  • @ThrashmasterX yeah.. I can do this in Google sketchup in about 2 mins :))

  • This was back in 2006, imagine what modern computers are capable of now.

  • This was breaking technology back in 2006... LOL

  • This is cool, but the depth is faked. It can be proven mathematically that you cannot infer 3D from a single photo. I accidentally discovered this company Visualsize (Google search Visualize for more info) that can construct many types of 3D models from real-world photographs. They do very realistic human faces too. Visualsize's technologies are really amazing and I haven't seen anything like that.

  • @yryj100 .......... i dont like u

  • @yryj100

Can they make 3D models from hand dawn work?

  • oye...una pregunta....un programa para pasar una imagen 2d a 3d....pero q la pueda transportar a after effects cs4..porfa....ese me sirve???----y me puedes pasar el link...muxas grax...

  • Which SOft have u used, can u share it with rest of the world <3

  • Fuck yeah humanity!

  • Would be better if the image could be cnnverted to igs format for printing

  • wow that is actually so awesome!

  • Doesn't look too incredibly difficult if done by hand, but for this to be done automatically is frickin awesome.

The only thing that could make this better is a more... accurate alpha channel.

  • but how?

  • what is 2D?

  • @runtubefantasy you're kidding right?

  • this is how Phosynth should work

  • Photosynth*

  • i wish i knew where to get me a copy of this program

  • Yeah damn true google maps

  • SICKKK

  • CS4 Photoshop Vanishing Point + After Effects!

  • Hello... what software is this?... I like the effect...

  • If you don't know what 2D and 3D is: then this is not for you. ;)

  • found cool 3d apps for android phone call 3ddroid

  • how????? this would be sweet i want it

  • I have a feeling this is fake.

  • its a breakthrough. now in next 20 years every body will experience 3d photo. in every discovery there is a certain lack..like it stretch the photo while it moves in 3d. may b in future every company make a camera that capture the enviroment in a micro pixle then it would b real possible..or they could make a camera that transpose the flashes to the little atoms on the air

and they could capture even the hidden background...may b this idea is abstract now..but possible.

  • @garvam there already is a 3d image camera

  • This is just an "on paper" program, it doesn't exist. A little note, if you ever see a tech demo from a university or a school...it's not real.

It's just a doctored movie that illustrates what they would like/hope to be able to do, little more than a mock-up.

Sadly, about 90% of these die on the drawing board, so don't hold your breath.

  • Why haven't they already released it?. Imagine that technology combined with google street...WOW!!

  • whats 2D? is there a 1D?

  • Of course. A line is one dimension, expanding only one way in space, you can say it has either width or height, a line can never have both; a picture is in two dimensions expanding in to ways, width and height; all objects around you are in three dimensions, height, width and depth.

  • and what about 0D

  • and where the heck is 0D

    or what about 1A

    1B

    1C

  • @MMOGalaxy

D means Dimension, its some kind of shortcut xD

  • 2 dimentions!!!!!!!

  • That's an amazing piece of software! What are the prospects of making it available to the general public? I've got some REALLY old family photos I'd love to try runnig through it;

  • I'm glad you're sharing this breakthrough with the YouTube community. Does Carnegie Mellon's software allow users to move past foreground objects in an image? I used a different program to convert four photos into 3D videos and the result is posted on this site. Do a search on my profile to see the YouTube video. My subscribe box has a link where you can download the software for free.

  • Yes, particularly the latest version (a video can be found on Derek Hoiem's website). Note that these algorithms are automatic and will work well for some images but fail for others.

  • Goldberg Variations.

  • wow this is preety awesome.

  • shame that it kills the background. that hurts the achievement needlessly

  • nice software where can i get it?

  • Well, the title at the beginning is wrong. Those are not 3D models, those are simply 2D layers in 3D space. This can be done very easily with After Effects and/or Photoshop. However if it is true and computer did recognize all this by itself, then I agree - it's quite admirable.

Nice choice of music, by the way. It's Bach isn't it?

  • lika ya

  • I wonder how can I do that in PS .. !! I have cs4. well you be so kind and link us to a tutorial please ? I wouldn't know how to google this one :)

  • Oops, mistook on this one. I should have written Photoshop and/or After Effects, meaning you can do it with PS and AE or just AE. Anyways, here's the link: videocopilot. net /tutorials/3d_vanishing_point/

  • I see what you mean. I thought PS has a new feature that I don't know about.

thanks for ur reply and for the link pal.

  • Sure thing.

  • They should use this for Google Maps :P

  • @WhiteDragon103 You mean for street view, right?

  • @guyboy625 No, of course

  • @WhiteDragon103 they do

  • @persiandrift they use something different.

  • @WhiteDragon103 i think they already do lol

  • @WhiteDragon103 hey dude... your comment is the most voted

  • @foxarasta o:

  • i'd love to see that done to artwork.

  • @mindrapeart interesting idea : )

  • How to make it? What software are u use??

  • this is semi 3d at best. so zzzzzzzzz

  • I assure you it's full 3D.

  • some kind of advanced displacement mapping?

  • Amazing !!!!

  • where can i get that software?

  • wow, thats amazing !!!

  • Everything looks flat to me... is that how it is supposed to look?

  • umm yea... you can only do so much with a 2d image...

  • Google should buy this and add to Google Earth

  • Comment removed

  • @Jakey4seasons street view is gyroscopic but not stereoscopic

  • this just simple vanishing point

  • @mickycheese27 Look when the video was posted, idiot.

  • @dima9944 They didn't have vanishing points in 2006? I believe photoshop and after effects 7 did support this feature.

  • What soft should I download except Photoshop to create 3d pics out of regular 2d jpeg's please?

  • What song is this?

    AMAZING SONG!

  • 10 years ago if someone put that in a movie as a plot device we'd all be like the "computer" made it all by it's self, ya right! Try harder you Hollywood phonies!

  • @java2000 Calm down man....

  • It looks like the techiniques used were similiar to the avant canter syndicated mathematical scheme. It looks like it mixed the ACSMS with the theory of Gandersburgs low end principal. If you look closely at the edges of the picture you can see the almost faint outline of an algorithmic pattern not usually used for visual animation.

  • I think he is using some kind of parallax coordinates..

  • kniveswood, what soft they used, please?

  • they have used fotowoosh

  • Thanxxx men, very much.

  • How can I download this "Fotowoosh" soft please? I cannot find it in torents...

  • I'm guessing this is how the program games.

  • It is not 3D.

  • @lopxmn:

It is. Why you think it is not?

  • Comment removed

  • Vanishing Point it in PS and import to AE ? innit ?

  • Wow, that's amazing! If only they had an After Effects Plug-in to do the same thing:(

  • thats nice
