ummm this looks wrong. First off, wireshark is a program which shows you everything that is going over your own network card. Which means it would only work on your computer unless it wasn't a router. A hub should work but those are completely obsolete and almost no one uses them. You see routers make sure that data meant for a certain computer only goes to desired computer. Hubs send everything everywhere.

Your example was bad because you used wireshark on the computer you browsed with.

@DarkD11 Hi by "router" i mean "Wifi" And with a "wifi local network", with wireshark, you can see everything is going on computers over the wifi network... You can try with a virtual computer , you will see that you will be able to sniff packet even if its not your own computer...

By hubs i think you mean an "ethernet network" but i am not sure ...

@IBM239 You should need a receiver of some kind to pick up traffic from random wireless feeds. I know you can do what you are saying but wireshark the way you used it will pick up whatever comes onto the network card that you selected. If that network card receives wireless data, then it could work, but I don't believe they work that way by default.

BTW there is nothing illegal about going to starbucks and listening to other peoples wireless transmissions. Test it out for yourself and post?

@IBM239 There's nothing illegal about it. It was broadcast in public so its not illegal to hear it. Companies go to great lengths to block wireless signals from leaving their office. They give their employees insane restrictions preventing them from discussing work outside of established protocols. If someone is dumb enough to use public unencrypted wireless to do anything important, they are usually fired on the spot. Anyone can take a receiver and start listening in public domains.

But if i use the name over it i dont get an error, tho i dont get any packages, is it because it is only local information by cable (also it says Ethernet (in the name))

@sindrelove yes if it doesn't work with wlan0, select eth0...

If you don't get any package, try to make a MITM (man in the middle) attack ==> make some research on google, youtube....

Hi, I'm trying to get a password to get online and surf the net only. Not get a password for sites like facebook and such. The one I am using is now a P.A.N. Public Access Network or Hotspot connection, But it is way too slow, most of the youtube vids buffer too much, and pages take way too long to chain over. I need a faster wifi network to connect to. I see a lot of good connect potentials, but are password locked (WEP) mostly. Does this software work for that or is backtrack better?

So you need first to crack the wep key with aircrack and then you will be able to sniff passwords with wireshark...

My tcp stream does not show like yours in this display when I look it up, mine looks like hieroglyphics.There is no way to see the password.

@dsmith019 what website to you use ? i knows that with facebook for example it deosn't work.... and maybe for other website... so try other ;)

Or be sure that it's a "post" packet that you choose... passwords are only in "post" packet.

@gralou slt oui il faut que tu réalise une attaque man in the midlle avec ettercap-ng qui te permetra de realiser cette attaque sur tout les pc connectés au reseau local...

@libanaisdu6 slt, sur cette video je suis sur ubuntu ( os different de windows, plus leger et plus performant) mais je te conseil fortement backtrack 5 qui est justement baser sur ubuntu et qui comporte tout les outils que j'utilise dans mes videos indispensable pour le hack ou plutot la securité informatique...

Je te conseil un dualboot ( Windows / backtrack 5 ), fait des recherche sur internet, prend le temps de reflechier =) et n'hesite pas a me mp si ta besoin d'aide ou de conseil ! ^^

You could have added, that in the most cases, passwords aren't transmitted in plain-text but in md5 hashes. Bruteforce and stuff :D
