The truck is not going to break through the ice. If a lot of snow accumulates on ice, sunlight will actually heat the snow, and the ice on the inside is insulated, and then freezes, leaving snow on top, with a layer of ice, water, and then the actual thick layer of ice underneath. this guy was never in any danger.

this happens in canada all the time. you were probably in no danger of breaking thru-its just the layer of water underneath the snow because it insulates the ice. You probably could have waited until it got dark and the temperature dropped and had no problem getting out because all the stuff you chewed up with your tires would have frozen so you could have got some speed going....

I have a plethora of common sense and this COULD have been me out there. However, tip to the driver. Next time your sloshing around in that stuff and get even the slightest bit of momentum (Of which you had plenty) It often speeds things up to turn the wheel back and forth. Theres no magic amount thats best but just maybe a half turn left and a half turn right gets it done.

Yes you should avoid spinning and digging yourself down, but you do need momentum in slush. Should have waited, but maybe they had to be somewhere.
