  • We garrison Iwo after the fight was supposed to be over but there was fighting going on still even when they invaded Okinawa, the army was always stuck pulling garrison duty on all the islands seeing that we were the bigger branch, some of it was easy some it was still took fighting till the ended of the war. Okinawa was the biggest amph attack of the war both army, marines service combined. Like your website by the I am a World War buff

  • The americans had the ammo, the japanese had the balls.

  • @TheThetimeoftheend I AM SPEAKING WITH ALL CAPS SO I MUST BE RIGHT DERP

  • @TheThetimeoftheend lol why? because ONE guy went a little overboard?

  • "I hope we kill ever one of them!" my fav. part

  • Nobody could hold a candle to what the indians did to each other thousands of years before europeans or the spanish came to the americas.the south american tribes were the most sadistic.

  • There are no rape scenes in Okinawa.

Yes,Tom Hanks and Spielberg hide the crime of marines.

  • @SOVIETasTheINVADER Russian soliders also raped many woman in ww2

  • @lolz11374265 Yes,you are right. American,Russian and German soldiers loved rape .They were beasts.

  • @SOVIETasTheINVADER No they don't. Look at Part 1 when they shoot a Japanese soldier for fun. Or what about when Snafu shoots the Japanese prisoner in the head so he can rip his teeth out. Those aren't crimes?

  • @Theakker3B せめて、海兵隊員はその日本兵を殺した後に金歯を盗むべきだった。それが騎士道であろう。

  • Within the amount of time I had to wait for the dumbass video to buffer, I could have rented the entire series from Netflix and sent it back. I'm sorry, YouTube, but are you too busy rolling around in your money to even give YouTube a better loading system? Fucknuts......

  • @Transformers2themax no its probably your conection not to mension i dont think youtube is gunna change anything for you

  • @wehrmacht95 Eh, whatever. I guess it was my connection. I'm using a different computer now and it works fine.

  • this was the best one, fucking great

  • It's a good thing the Americans didn't understand the Japanese or else they will realize there was nothing that was going to make them surrender. Then the Americans would have come to a sad conclusion the Japs out match them and the Americans might have retreated. Who knows.

  • @MsRifle ummmm the japense did surrender

  • @billyriley67 yeah. I know they did. Im just throwing out a what if situation.

  • @billyriley67 I think this person was proposing a history sans atom bomb. But the US could not just give up and retreat at this stage. The events at the end of the war follow Snafu's saying "they'll get meaner and meaner...you have to get mean too." So, the US calls Japan's crimes against humanity with the detonation of two nuclear bombs over civilian Japanese cities. Horror lead to even greater horror. Like Hemingway said "Never believe that war no matter how justified is not a crime."

  • I respect the Japanese, they did whatever they can to stop the Americans from invading their homeland. Thats whay their were kamikaze's and the soldiers would fight to the death. But sadly Americans never understood it.

  • @TheStickUpKid187 Stupid dumbass remember pearl harbor? Japs attacks us... stupid F

  • @abramis7 Yes I am well aware of that, however U.S provoked Japan to attack them. After all, they did cut their oil supply, any country would retaliate. So don't get all "Japs are this and that, they started it", its war, both sides had the same objective and its to win war, but none of that matters now its like 66 years ago.

  • This was the way to fight a war. When you have a brutal enemy, you must be as brutal as he is. TV cameras have no business on the battlefield.

  • Showed this to my English class becuase I was doing a presentation on my Grandpa. I feel so proud!! :) God bless you Grandpa.

  • Dirty joke... Dirty, dirty joke...

  • Part 9 was the best one.

  • 0:41, you can tell that it's an M-1 Garand firing. Listen to the PING.

  • fucking hate tony pack guy.

  • @JessiLynK7 Who knows, maybe you wouldn't think the same if you were drafted into one of the most brutal wars. Tony Peck was an example of those that were drafted and combat fatigue reinforced their mentality of "I don't want to be hear." Things aren't as simple as it seems. If you met Sledge in Okinawa, you'd probably think he was someone who loved killing Japanese people. Now that's strong hate crime in today's standard. But Sledge isn't a bad person. It's fatigue.

  • in this series they make the americans the good guys but if there was a japanese version the americans were the bad guys

  • @diogosushi The Japanese were the ones who attacked, pillaged and raped half the world. Japanese were the ones who attack the US first and made it clear US was next. US marines knew why we fought, and fought they did.

  • @magic2magic That they did, but both sides are kinda at fault. If it wasn't for the treaty the Allies forced onto Germany in WWI, the Nazi movement probably wouldn't have happened. Also, the U.S. embargo'd all oil exports to Japan. At that point, to the Japanese, it was clear whose side the US took. The Japanese pillaged and raped my home country, South Korea. And afterwards, when Russia and America helped recover Korea, they puppeteer'd us for their Cold War. It's not like any side is good.

  • this episode is sad and bloody

  • The SS were probably the best fighting force on the planet at the time. Between the technology, training and tactics they employed, they were literally 10 years ahead of their time. As for the Japanese, they took a lot of American lives, but really did more to lose the war than the Americans did to win it. Wasting troops, resources, stone-aged battle tactics. I'm not taking away from US troops, but The Japs were far and away the worst fighting force in the war.

  • @Towney007

They did make up the shitty tactics whit bravery and extremly good disapline... but yeah.. your right.. what's the point of having highly disapline and combat cacable army when your tactics suck majorly ass.

  • @Towney007 Interesting . I asume you were in a batle of World war 2 if you know that much about Japanese fighting tactics ?

  • @Towney007

The Japanese were not the worst fighting force in the war. I'd personally put that title on the Russians. And if not them, then there was always the Italians.

  • u better get mean too boooo

  • @geordies4990

    ...he said boot.

  • This episode was fucking mad.

  • hmm let me think..

    of course you retard :P

  • image if japanese were trained as good as waffen ss or german paratroopers

lol americans would have been royalty fucked up xD

  • @NoobSnoopy the japanese killed more americans than the germans did. the marines suffered alot more casuaties in the pacific than the european campaign.

  • @NoobSnoopy do you realize what you just said

  • @NoobSnoopy

If they were structured/ equipped/ trained like the Waffen SS or Fallshimjagers, then the war would have been waged in a completely different way.

  • @CaptainAmerica322

    I agree whit you complete.

  • well the japs were more brutal and brave than the krauts.

  • @gilbertrivas17

Brutal yes, but brave? No. Fanatical yes. Germans were pure professionalism when it came to soldiering.

  • this is the best world war series ever made it's so realistic! :D

  • @Gislijohann band of brothers my friend is just a little better but hey it was made by the same people

  • is this unrated?

  • @Snako85 there were army troops in almost every pacific battle. Take guadalcanal for example.

  • all the trailers are testosterone filled

  • In terms of savagery, the Pacific is worse than the western front in Europe.

Its said that after the surrender of Germany, the US army units in Europe were scared to be sent to the Pacific.

So worse war zones by front in ww2:

    1. Eastern Front, 2. Pacific/China Burma. 3. North Africa/Western Europe

  • @Bander1, How dare you judge any front in ww2 unless you fought in each one of them.

  • @thenoobfactor

I dare too, historians will agree the eastern front is the worse due to the bloodbathand savagery of the combatants. and same for the Pacific but the death toll was higher in the eastern front.

  • @Bander1 Historians in their nice warm offices and their comfy chairs deside whos hell was worse?

  • @thenoobfactor

So what about you, in a very warm place right now? LOL.

  • @Bander1, Yes, which is why I am not comparing different fronts. Idiot.

  • @Bander1 For a Soldier, the Western front was the worst.

For a Civilian, the Eastern Front was the worst.

There were two types of Germans

    One Type of Japnese

The Germans had the Wermacht, Regular Soldiers fighting for their country

The Waffen SS, A Highly Skilled, powerful and Fanatical force that made the Japanese look like kittens.

The Japanese had fanatical but incompetant Soldiers.

  • @Snako85 the SS were no where near as fanatical as the Japs. They just had better technology.

  • @Snako85 the SS were no where near as fanatical as the Japs. They just had better technology.

  • @baezalejandro they were as fanatical as the japanese and better trained and equipted they were more of a force to be reconed with

  • @Snako85 are you serious? im not being biased here, and i dont want to start any hate, because i respect all the soldiers that fought in the war, but fighting in the Pacific was much worse than fighting in the western front. Running through massive airfields where there is little cover and massive bombing was the scariest thing a marine did (Sledge admitted this in his memoir). Not to mention fighting enemies hidden all over the place. Atleast in Europe the soldiers got to have breaks in paris.

  • @playstationextremist Regardless, you can't really compare wars. They both sucked. The only difference was that the European theater was more... civilized. The reason why the airfield was more terrifying than anything is because you said it there is no cover. But until they reach up to the OP they seized from the Japanese forces, they couldn't do anything about it. Usually, when you're under fire, you fire back. But you're right, I would rather fought in the European theater than the Pacific.

  • @Snako85 "The Waffen SS, A Highly Skilled, powerful and Fanatical force that made the Japanese look like kittens."

You're kidding right? What's so fanatical about the SS that surpasses the bushido philosophy of an entire culture?

  • @drizzt4418 i agree.

  • @Bander1

"Its said that after the surrender of Germany, the US army units in Europe were scared to be sent to the Pacific."

Its funny, because that was LITERALLY never said. And the US Army was actually more in the Pacific than the Marines were. Almost every island the Marines were on, the Army also was. The Army also was the sole force in mainland Asia. The Army was even on Okinawa... After the ETO was done, men were literally volunteering to be transferred to units rotating to the Pacific.

  • @CaptainAmerica322 NO the army was not that wide spread in the Pacific as the Corp which at the time had seven divisions in the pacific, the army was not at Iwo Jima, Tarawa,Pelileu, with the marines we were there for the taking of Guam, and Saipan where the ground force commander fired the army divison commander for not moving fast like the marines, The army sent the major force to the ETO and Italy to fight.

  • @andywe41

Army had like, 22 divisions in the Pacific... and Army reinforced the Marines on Iwo.

  • USMC all the way, Japanese army and marines fought well but the USMC did not commit atrocities on the scale that the Japanese did in ww2(Nanking, Manila, killing and torture or POWs, the war in China etc. etc. etc. the list goes on).

See it had to take the USMC to civilize the Japanese, Now they are good people.

  • @Bander1 The US Army was there too

  • the best the best the best the best! BIG RESPECT FOR MARINES

  • Damn, this episode was rough.

  • wasent the Iwo Jima alredy part of their homeland

  • @NoobSnoopy Iwo Jima was only recently acquired (colonised in the XIXth century by a few fishermen), no civilians were present during the battle.

  • deff was not as good and band of brothers.. but one hell of a show...

  • @yuenglingUSA what the fuck r u talking about, this is HELL alot better

  • Episode showed how fucked up each side was, japanese or american, both sick fucks during world war 2.

  • @cloud86735 There is no comparison between the atrocities of Americans and of the Japanese in WWII. There's a difference between taking out gold teeth and massacring cities (Rape of Nanking, Manilla, etc.).

  • @cloud86735

Shut the fuck upp you faggot go hug a tree you liberal

  • @cloud86735 bu the japs were even worse, fucking strapping satchel charges to a women with a baby, fuck, thats not cool.

  • @cloud86735 but granted we were bad but the japenese were the worst ever nobody can even deny that

  • @cloud86735 Japanese war crimes in WWII were far, far beyond anything US soldiers did. Ever hear of their exploits in China? They behaved like dogs... and not a few... thousands, entire battalions. US soldiers had to respond to a disgusting enemy that started a war by surprise attacking pearl harbor. Do note, that regular japanese citizens did not follow the mentality of their army.

  • @cloud86735 the japanese were far worse. they raped hundreds of chinese women, killed them, then ate them.

  • @snoopy72296 I've heard of rape but not eaten

  • @cloud86735 they may have become sick fucks but we can thank them

  • @cloud86735 I wouldnt call them sick fucks. Each side had to do what they had to do, and its not just the americans and the japanese were sick fucks. Britian, Germany, Italy, Russia, and more were all "SICK FUCKS" , really disrespectful to the countrys and men and woman who had to fight in ww2 : /

  • @cloud86735 It meant to show how much of a sick fuck WAR and GLOBAL CONFLICT is.

  • @mac19971 True.

  • @cloud86735 Aye : )

  • Of course US believed the nuclear bombs ended the war and Soviets believed their entry into the war won the war for allies, but still you cannot overlook the power of the Japanese emperor who had unimaginable power over people of Japan, both military and civilian. He was literally their god and they were willing to stop fighting only when his recorded wish was broadcasted on Aug. 15th. It may be difficult to understand that mentality today.

  • Golden opportunity for Japanese leaders who were Wahei-ha came in the first week of May when Germany surrendered. Since seeking separate peace was forbidden by their agreement, but unfortunately it came during Okinawan campaign. Wahei-ha was secretly seeking ways to end the war since the fall of Marianas, but they had to work in secrecy to avoid assassinations. After the fall of Okinawa, emperor's takeover national policies was the only Japanese key to end the war for Japan.

  • Part 9: best episode of The Pacific

  • Part 9 is the best and most realistic/sobering episode of the series. In my opinion it's the only episode of the series that can stand up to Band of Brothers.

  • I've seen hundreds of war movies and documentaries. I've been critical of this miniseries as I thought it was a bit lackluster especially compared to Band of Brothers. I can honestly say that aside from the opening 20 mins of Saving Private Ryan that the Okinawa episode of The Pacific is one of the most intense pieces of film I've ever seen that has to do with World War 2, and I've seen just about ever war movie/mini-series made in the English language.

  • does anybody have a website that i can download this?

  • @spidervilles Use many torrents that are available.. Getting uTorrent would help a lot.

  • Who is that at :38???? not sledge but the one telling him to seize fire???

  • @winxiebio:

that guy was Sledge's CO in rank of LT

  • @Grzech0007 ah i see....hes stricter than his previous commanders

  • the scenes between 0:05 and 0:30 gave me goosebumps

  • part 9 is last one?

  • @Timurchin1 NO. They still have to do part 10.

  • My Grandpa was at Okinawa. He knew Eugene Sledge. Eugene mentioned him in his book "With the old Breed at Pelelui and Okinawa.

  • The bit where he slips and lands next to the jap body....... eewww thts messed up

  • the part where they found the baby gave me chills........was the best episode of the series......

  • ffs i missed partf 9 and heard it was the best part

  • the best and relestic part of the pacific

  • rofl, "whats a matter, all wared out after 1 day of combat? Dont worrie Princess, you can still back out now, japs fighting for their own turf now, every dam foot we go south, they get meaner and meaner, You better start getting mean too!" :D

    snafu best 4ever!

  • @shinfield13 hows that funny?

  • @JohnWonYeo wtf dude, everything Snafu says is funny :D

  • @JohnWonYeo lolololololol i agree :)

  • when this is going to air?

  • @lhpegz this will air again on memorial day weekend or you can go on hbo on demand right now if u have charter

  • can't wait until this coms in holland!!

  • does anybody knows when we can expect it in a box for sell ?

  • @dierenfreak10 I think they said it was coming out for Father's Day.

  • @ComradeJerry

    okay, thanks dude

  • The actors that portray the Japanese did one hell of a job in making it seem they were actual Japanese Imperial Army

  • PLEASE HBO MAKE MORE EPISODES!

  • if you pause at about 0.43 - 0.44 (it may take a while to see it)

but you can see Sledge with a M1 Garand instead his handgun :D

  • @Helghast470 i see :D

  • @shinfield13

    great ^^

i thought everyone would be like:

    'yeah right...'

  • @Helghast470 whoah how did u see that? i just noticed it lol

  • @cloud86735

i have no idea :P i just paused it at the right moment i guess xD

  • Need alot more episodes!

  • heaviest episode hands down

  • Scariest episode of any show on Earth.

  • @TheZimpiko28Project i dont really find any film or tv programme scary what so ever but i do feel sad for ppl who die when they didnt need to like when the teenager comes out of that cave thing and gets shot and when the baby and its mother explode oh and when the dead jap gets stones thrown in his head but i really like it because i think those bits are still pretty epic as is the whole thing

  • @TheZimpiko28Project i agree man, i was freaked out from this episode, i couldn't sleep at all

  • @0Petercool0 An now imagine the reality was worse. The show was actually heavily "censored" compared to the source material.

  • My grandpa fought at "OM\KINWAW." He knew Eugene Sledge.

  • Splashing *

  • I didnt really like SNAFU at first but as each episode went on he became one of my favorite chacters on the show...it's so rediculous when he's throwing rocks in the japs empty head and shits slashing out haha

  • when does it come on

  • i wish there was more, i really hoped there was some naval battles like a sailor in a battleship. They did not cover the Philippine Battle of Manila city either... that could have been a good urban combat for the series.

  • You all know that Sledge, Leckie, and Basilone where real people.

  • love that line Shelton says :D

  • this episode is the worst and most gritty one, this really shows you an insight into war and its pshycological effects.

  • How the fuck did anyone make it off Okinawa with their sanity intact?! Dear god that was a psychoclogical brutul episode. Honestly, if you watch it and can still say war is a good thing, then you seriously need your head checked.

  • @ScreamingTc No one did make it out with their sanity intact.

  • @ScreamingTc According to Wikipedia: "U.S. forces suffered their highest-ever casualty rate for combat stress reaction during the entire war, at 48%, with some 14,000 soldiers retired due to nervous breakdown"

  • @punipunipunisher Wiki isn't an academic source and can be edited by anyone with a computer and no real material to back up their claims and statistics.

  • @pgcracker82 na but that fact is true ive read it in many books and heard on many documentaries

  • @pgcracker82 But really the psychological toll is huge. Oh, and the reality of the war in Okinawa was actually censored in the film, compared to the source material (Sledge's memoir). Yes, the stuff was even worse.

  • amazing episode...It must of been hell to be in okinawa..

  • I always found it weird that at first, Sledge was a innocent little kid who was pressured to join because of his friend. (I forgot his name! sorry!) Then his friend leaves Guadalcanal and later says in an interview "After the War, I lived a real happy life. I've lived a good life!" While Sledge turned into an angry, ferocious person who got some of the worst of it.

  • I think Sledge is one of the best characters I've ever seen. He's gone from a frail, good kid to some fucked up angry guy who wants to kill every Jap he sees. And it all relates back to what his Dad said about people having their souls torn out.

  • @Guitarded270 I agree. His unraveling has been fascinating to watch. He went from good kid to almost pushed over the edge of insanity but the scene in the hut with the dying woman, he manages to salvage whatever that is left of his own humanity. Sledge and Snafu are the standout characters for me. I honestly hope Joe Mazzello and Rami Malek get some recognition for their roles in this.

  • snafu shelter is cool

  • sledge turning badass i see

    will leckie be back?

  • @fatcheesyboy Possibly. The last episode is titled "Home" and Spielberg went deep into talking about the transition from peace-time to warfare and back home. They definitely are showing Sledge and Philips back home.

  • how goods the battle in this one and how long is it?

  • @MrOLiPaGe the battle is about 30 minutes

  • You better get MEAN too...

  • @Bohemia220 i love that line and the guy

  • Rami Malek's portrayal of Snafu blows every fucked up war character there ever was out of the water.

  • @metzemerte hes probably my second favorite character to Leckie lol

  • @metzemerte Haha, yeah he's a great character. My buddies and I call him the Marine rapist. Just the way he eyeballs you and talks in that tone of voice.

  • @metzemerte

lol, right on, "fuck that shit, I scrub oil for no man"
